Chapter 1059:
Elyse looked over and frowned. โThis town feels strange. Yesterday, we saw a lot of suspicious people hanging around.โ
Edward nodded, his expression thoughtful. โYouโre right. Thereโs definitely something off about this place.โ They sat for a while longer until Elyse, feeling drowsy, yawned. Suddenly, she felt an intense gaze on her, sending a shiver down her spine.
She sat up abruptly, her eyes scanning the cafรฉ.
Edward noticed her unease. โWhatโs up?โ
โI feel like someoneโs watching me,โ Elyse said, her voice low but tense. She kept looking around until she spotted a man in a windbreaker and sunglasses moving swiftly toward the exit. โThatโs him. He was staring at me,โ Elyse muttered, pointing.
Edward frowned, grabbing his coat. โIโll go after him.โ But by the time he reached the street, the man had disappeared into the crowd.
Elyse watched from the cafรฉ, her heart racing. Whoever that man was, something about him filled her with dread. When Edward returned, he found Elyse still on edge.
He sat down beside her and spoke softly. โHeโs gone. Donโt worry. Iโll have someone look into it.โ
Elyse nodded, though the anxiety lingered. โThe black marketโs still offering rewards for kidnapping me. Iโm guessing he was after that bounty.โ
Edwardโs face darkened with resolve. โDonโt worry, Elyse. Iโll protect you.โ
After a moment, Elyse sighed. โI think Iโve had enough for today. Letโs go back to the hotel.โ
โOf course. Letโs head back,โ Edward said, standing.
Elyse nodded as Edward left, her attention shifting to the sheet music on her bed. She tried to focus, but a nagging unease lingered from earlier. Later in the evening, a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She hesitated before walking to the door, her voice cautious. โWho is it?โ
โRoom service, maโam. Food delivery,โ a voice said from outside.
Elyse frowned. โI didnโt order any food.โ
โIt was pre-ordered for you. Please confirm,โ the voice insisted.
Elyseโs gut told her something was off. She quickly grabbed her phone and texted Edward about the situation. Edwardโs response came fast: โDonโt open the door. Iโll send the guards.โ
Outside, the voice grew impatient. โMaโam? Are you still there?โ
Elyse cleared her throat, buying time. โIโm here, but I didnโt order anything, and you havenโt told me who did.โ The voice on the other side became agitated. โIโm just a delivery person. Please donโt make this difficult; I have other orders.โ
