Chapter 77

A sudden commotion erupted in the banquet hall as Naomi and her companion reached an impasse. Following the crowd's gaze, Naomi saw Brendan arrive, escorted by Chloe in a light blue dress.

"Brendan looks stunning! Who's the girl with him?"

"His personal secretary, apparently. I hear he treats her very well and takes her everywhere."

"Personal secretary? I'm envious! She gets to spend every day with Brendan."

The surrounding women whispered excitedly. Bailey glanced at Naomi. Damn, he thought, couldn't he be more discreet? Couldn't he at least protect Naomi's reputation? About half the attendees knew of their relationship.

Henry's smile deepened. "Naomi," he said, "Brendan's really not worth it."

Naomi stepped forward, hooking her fingers around Henry's belt. "Then let's see if you dare challenge him."

Henry tensed, but ultimately removed her hand. Leaning close, he whispered, "If you can't get over him, I'll be with you tonight."

From a distance, Brendan spotted Naomi, her playful interaction with Henry catching his eye. His expression sharpened.

Chloe gently tugged his sleeve. "Brendan, Naomi's over there."

Brendan averted his gaze, feigning ignorance. As they mingled, they inevitably encountered each other. Brendan was speaking with foreign businessmen attending Ashburgh's investment promotion.

"Ms. Goodwin," one of the men greeted Naomi, surprised.

"Mr. Obel," Naomi replied with a smile.

The middle-aged man beckoned her. "Ms. Goodwin, please join us. Let me introduce you to some business owners—potential clients."

"Thank you, Mr. Obel," Naomi responded.

Ian, delighted by Naomi's arrival, introduced her to Brendan and the others. "Ms. Goodwin is a lawyer whose firm handles our company's legal affairs. While she doesn't directly manage our cases, I greatly appreciate her competence and attitude. Two months ago, my son had a minor incident—a near-miss with an elderly person. The other party's family was influential, and even my experienced son was apprehensive. Ms. Goodwin stepped in and discovered it was a scam. We owe her everything. You can count on her for any legal matters."

Ian praised Naomi effusively. The businessmen agreed to consider hiring her when their contracts expired. Naomi thanked them.

Brendan sneered, his expression cold and distant. He'd always considered Naomi's cases trivial, but he was surprised by her extensive network, particularly her strong relationships with older individuals—something he couldn't ignore, especially considering his father's insistence on his marrying Naomi. He dismissed Dennis's supposed assistance as nonsense.

After the introductions, Ian turned to Naomi, slightly embarrassed. "Naomi, my son hasn't been bothering you, has he? He claims to be madly in love and can't live without you—acting rather foolishly. If you were interested, I'd seriously consider arranging a marriage. With your abilities, managing my company wouldn't be a problem."
