Chapter 64

Brendan was speechless. Naomi was unlikely to be taken advantage of; few in Ashburgh could compete with her. However, Henry possessed considerable courage.

Brendan gave her a disdainful stare. Naomi, sitting at her desk, said, “He even said that if you hadn’t acted so quickly, Madelyn would be calling me ‘sister-in-law’ by now.”

Brendan's eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he remained silent. Instead, he asked, "Aren't you going to sleep?"

Naomi picked up some documents and replied, "My life isn't as effortless as yours. I need to review the South Glistenville project."

Around noon, Dennis had the project proposal sent to her email. With her daytime commitments at the law firm, she could only examine it at night.

Brendan remained silent.

Naomi turned to him, asking, "Brendan, don't you want to use the South Suburb project to leverage your influence over me? For instance, to indirectly help Goodwin Corporation secure the project?"

Brendan chuckled. "You've already claimed all the best opportunities for yourself."

She wanted him and his assistance for the Goodwin Corporation project. Her optimism seemed misplaced.

Naomi retorted, "You don't know how to cherish the opportunity given to you."

She turned back to her work.

After a while, Brendan put down his book and saw Naomi dozing at her desk. He got up, carefully lifted her, and gently placed her on the bed.

Her absence from the company might seem negligent, but she understood priorities better than anyone. She wouldn't sacrifice her dreams or her life.

The next morning, after a brief conversation with Naomi, Brendan went to the company. As he sat down, Henry entered, his face bruised and his left arm in a cast, yet his refined demeanor remained.

Henry sat opposite Brendan. "Were those your people last night?"

After his phone call with Naomi, he'd been attacked on his way home.

Brendan casually lifted his head. "I heard you wanted Madelyn to call my wife 'sister-in-law.'"

Henry's expression darkened. He hadn't expected Naomi to tell Brendan, given their strained relationship.

He adjusted his collar, saying, "Do you really believe everything Naomi said? She's just trying to cause trouble. The Sabella and Ludwig families have a long-standing, trusting relationship. You should have confidence in that."

Realizing he was losing ground, Henry appealed to their families' history.

Brendan lifted his gaze indifferently. "Henry, when did you become qualified to discuss relationships with me?"

Henry stood, smiling. "Alright." He left, closing the door gently, though his expression was frigid. Brendan didn't take him seriously.

Henry adjusted his collar; the veins in his face, neck, and even his casted hand bulged. Brendan smiled coldly; Henry had overestimated himself.

Naomi clearly wanted to use Brendan's influence against Henry. He would grant her this wish.
