The journey from Baixing Gully Village to the old lady's straw cottage was not short. Just yesterday, Lin Ruoxue had experienced an avalanche and should have rested, both mentally and physically, but Su Chen, not wanting to disappoint her, agreed to her request.
Along the way, Su Chen and his companions walked and stopped intermittently, only reaching the straw cottage in the afternoon.
"It's unexpected to find such a place at the foot of Tianshan," Lin Ruoxue exclaimed, looking at the straw cottage surrounded by a wooden fence, including a vegetable garden and fruit trees in the yard.
Su Chen smiled and pushed open the gate. He had felt the same way the first time he came here. Although the old lady did not seem extraordinary, she always gave him a peculiar feeling, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
When they entered the straw cottage, the old lady showed no surprise, as if she had guessed they would return. However, when she saw Lin Ruoxue standing by Su Chen, her sleepy eyes suddenly emitted a sharp light, and her body shook violently!
"Old lady, this is my wife, Lin Ruoxue. We are planning to leave, so I brought Xiaoxun to see you before we go," Su Chen said with a smile, not paying much attention to the old lady's unusual reaction.
"What's so great about an old woman?" The old lady curled her lips, then looked at Su Chen. "So this is your wife?"
"Yes, she also wanted to meet you, so we came together."
"Old lady, it's a pleasure to meet you," Lin Ruoxue said warmly, extending a hand.
The old lady did not reach out to shake it but thoroughly scrutinized her, as if trying to see through her.
Being stared at like this by a stranger made Lin Ruoxue feel uncomfortable, even though it was by an old lady. "Old lady, why are you staring at me like this? Is there something special about me?" she asked, withdrawing her hand, a little displeased.
"Special? Very special indeed, only you yourself are unaware!" the old lady muttered meaningfully.
Lin Ruoxue, and Su Chen, could not imagine how shocked the old woman was inside, though she hid it very well.
No wonder that old fellow told his precious disciple to get married. So this is why! the old lady thought to herself. Although his cultivation is mediocre now, in the future... it's unimaginable!
Su Chen also felt that the old lady was acting strangely today, not only staring weirdly at Lin Ruoxue before but now her gaze toward him seemed peculiar.
"Well, old lady, you've seen them, now hurry on," the old lady said, giving them the eviction order without giving Su Chen time to think. "Xiaoxun, make sure you listen to Uncle after you go back, hear me?" The old lady looked at the little girl, her expression suddenly much softer.
"Xiaoxun will behave," the little girl obediently nodded.
"Okay, it's getting late, you guys should hurry on your way!" the old lady urged, seemingly not wanting them to disturb her peace.
Since the old lady said so, Su Chen and the others felt it was not appropriate to stay. "Old lady, we'll be leaving then. Please take care of yourself."
"Go on, go on!" the old lady waved her hand somewhat impatiently.
Su Chen had no choice but to lead Lin Ruoxue and the little girl out, heading back the way they had come. The old lady also stepped out of the thatched hut to see them off. As the little girl walked not far from the yard, she looked back and saw the old lady, suddenly rushing back and throwing herself into her arms.
"Grandma, Xiao Xun doesn't want to leave, Xiao Xun wants to stay with grandma!"
"Good child, this place does not belong to you, and you do not belong here, you should leave!" The old lady, stroking her enchanting purple hair, sighed and then looked solemnly into her big, watery eyes. "If you still listen to grandma, go with uncle!"
"But grandma, what will you do by yourself?" the little girl asked worriedly.
"Don't worry, grandma will be alright. If grandma misses you, she will come to see you."
"Really? Grandma, will you really come to see Xiao Xun?"
"When has grandma ever lied to you? Go now, or grandma will get angry!"
"Grandma, don't be angry, Xiao Xun will go with uncle!"
"That's my good child! Go now! They are waiting for you!"
Watching the little girl walk towards Su Chen and Lin Ruoxue, the old lady said contemplatively, "A peacock must eventually unfold its most beautiful feathers! I should also make a trip to Kunlun Mountains now."
...
Truly separating from the old lady made the little girl's mood somber, remaining silent all the way to Baixing Gully. When they arrived, they quickly packed, ready to leave, as they didn't have much stuff and had mostly packed it up in the morning.
As they dragged their suitcases and shouldered their backpacks out of the village chief's felt tent, the outside was crowded with people who had come to see them off.
The emotion of parting is always somewhat melancholic, so after saying goodbye to everyone and promising to return next year, the two adults finally took the little girl towards where the car was parked.
By the time they arrived at the airport, it was already past 8 PM, but luckily Lin Ruoxue had changed her flight to 10 PM, so there was still plenty of time. This time the plane was quite reliable, only delayed by 20 minutes, which could be considered very punctual in Huaxia.
The little girl, clearly on a plane for the first time, was amazed by the clouds from high above, and the hurt from leaving the old lady gradually faded.
When the airplane landed at Jianghai airport, it was almost 3 AM. Although it was so late, Jianghai, as a big city, still had many brightly lit shops, and the street lights on both sides made the road look almost like daytime.
Sitting in the taxi, the little girl looked at all this in awe, wondering how it could be so bright at night. Is this the city? And those buildings were also something she had never seen before, so tall and beautiful! However, her introverted nature and poor communication skills meant she just silently observed and absorbed the scene.
"Xiao Xun, do you like it here?" Lin Ruoxue asked with a smile.
"Yes," the little girl nodded slightly. Coming to such a strange place, she felt amazed but still somewhat scared and apprehensive.
The car soon stopped in front of Grand Epoch Court. The three of them got out and walked towards Lin Ruoxue's villa.
Upon opening the door and entering, Su Chen immediately sprawled out on the sofa. "There's no place like home!"
"Indeed!" Lin Ruoxue also sat down beside Su Chen, then called out to the little girl, "Xiao Xun, come sit here and rest for a while."
"Oh," the little girl shifted over somewhat awkwardly, by then she was completely amazed by the spaciousness, beauty, and elegance of the house!
So a house can be like this too! she marveled to herself.
