Chapter 89
โItโsโฆ actually not a bad idea,โ he finally said.
I blinked, caught off guard. โWhat?โ
โThe picnic thing.โ His broad shoulders lifted in an indifferent shrug. โCould be a good way to get people engaged and interested ahead of time, yes.โ
Relief washed over me, quickly followed by surprise, and then a flicker of indignation. Noah was never the type to accept myโor anyoneโsโideas so easily. โBut you should have told me sooner,โ he added.
โLike you would have listened,โ I retorted, folding my arms. โYouโve never shown any interest in what I do as your Luna. Why start now?โ
Noah sighed. โYou only started acting like a Luna, like, yesterday. And even thatโs a stretch.โ
โSo if I had done more sooner, youโre saying you would have listened to me?โ
A muscle ticked in Noahโs chiseled jaw, but he didnโt argueโeither because he knew I was right or it wasnโt worth it.
After an awkward silence, I shook my head and sighed. โAnywayโฆ why did you come barging in here?โ I asked wearily. โI doubt it was just to critique my party-planning skills.โ
Noahโs expression darkened. Without a word, he tossed his phone onto my desk, the screen open to a camera roll folder. โLook at this,โ he said, jerking his head.
I stared, apprehension coiling in my belly, before picking up the phone. As the first image registered, my heart plummeted. It was me, with Drake, wrapped around him on his motorcycle, our bodies intertwined intimately. The next few shots only confirmed itโme caressing his shoulder, a soft smile on my face.
โWhat is this?โ I whispered.
โI had to pay off an entire goddamn paparazzi agency to keep those from leaking,โ Noah growled. โSix figures, Hannah. All to keep the Luna of my packโand myselfโfrom becoming a laughingstock because she canโt keep her hands off another man.โ
My cheeks burned with shame and anger; the phone fell from my trembling hands as I met Noahโs hard glare. โItโs not like that with Drake and I,โ I said.
โThen what is it?โ Noah demanded, leaning forward, his hands on my desk as he towered over me. โBecause from where Iโm standing, it looks an awful lot like youโre being reckless. Selfish. Putting this pack at risk with your idiotic displays ofโโ
โI donโt see how this is any worse than the things youโve done with Zoe in public,โ I snarled, rising. โHolding her while she cries. Matching outfits with her at a gala. Showing up to welcome-home parties for herโฆโ
Noah clenched his jaw. โSo is that what this is? Revenge? And how many times do I have to tell you, nothing ever happened between me and Zoe?โ
โItโs not about revenge.โ I sighed, turning away. โDrake and I are just friends. Iโm sorry I wasnโt more careful, butโฆ Iโd never cheat. Weโre still married.โ
Noah stared at me, his expression unreadable. Then, he nodded curtly. โWhatever.โ
โWhatever?โ I scoffed.
He shrugged. โYeah. Whatever.โ He paused, sighing and pinching the bridge of his nose. โLetโs just host this picnic thing of yours this weekend,โ he said gruffly. โBe there, bright and early to make sure it all goes according to your plans.โ
With that, he turned and strode out of my office without another word.
