Chapter 0392

Hannah

โ€œAlpha Hannah, you are under arrest for the physical assault of Alpha David. You are ordered to come to Darkmoon pack with us immediately.โ€

I stared dumbfounded, too shocked to speak. The assault of Davidโ€ฆ He assaulted me! What I did was self-defense!

But I didnโ€™t say thatโ€”I couldnโ€™t. If this was serious, I needed a lawyer. Quickly.

Behind me, I heard Lilyโ€™s footsteps. โ€œHannah? Whoโ€™s at the door?โ€ Her gravelly voice suggested sheโ€™d just woken.

I turned to my sister, my movements slow and deliberate as I held Melody, who immediately fussed. โ€œLily, could you please take Melody? I have to go.โ€

Lilyโ€™s eyes widened as she took in the scene, her gaze darting between me and the officials. โ€œWhat? Go where? Hannah, whatโ€™s going on?โ€

I forced a calm smile, though fear twisted my insides. โ€œItโ€™s okay, Lily. Iโ€™ll be home soon. Just please take good care of Melody for me.โ€ My voice trembled slightly.

Sensing the tension, Melody cried, her face scrunching up. Lily ran down the stairs and took her, cradling and bouncing her gently, but her eyes never left mine. โ€œHannah, youโ€™re scaring me. Tell me whatโ€™s happening. Why are these men here?โ€

I kissed Melodyโ€™s forehead, inhaling her sweet scent, then kissed Lilyโ€™s cheek. โ€œEverything will be fine. I promise. Just stay here with Melody. Iโ€™ll explain everything later.โ€

โ€œBut Hannahโ€”โ€

โ€œPlease, Lily. Donโ€™t make a scene. Not in front of the baby.โ€

My sister fell silent.

Turning to the officials, I squared my shoulders and lifted my chin, affecting a confidence I didnโ€™t feel. โ€œMay I dress, or am I expected to go with you in my dressing gown?โ€ I asked sharply.

The Betaโ€™s eyes flicked over my bare body, visible beneath the light fabric of my robe in the morning sun. I felt exposed and vulnerable, anger flaring at his blatant leering.

A smirk played on his lips as he glanced at his watch. โ€œNo time,โ€ he replied gruffly.

Disgust welled up. I scoffed and strode past him onto the porch. The morning air was cold against my skin. โ€œPig,โ€ I hissed, loud enough for him to hear. The Beta only leered.

The cool morning air raised goosebumps as I followed the officials to their vehicles. I could hear Melodyโ€™s cries fading as we moved away from the house; it took all my willpower not to turn back. Each step felt like leaving a piece of myself behind. But it was better than causing a bigger scene in front of my baby.

As we drove toward Darkmoon territory, I kept my gaze fixed out the window, refusing to engage with the men. The landscape blurredโ€”familiar streets giving way to the less-traveled roads leading to Darkmoon.

My mind raced, trying to formulate a plan. David had attacked me. What I did was self-defense. Surely, I could explain that and be released. But a nagging voice reminded me of the complex politics between our packs. This wasnโ€™t just about last night; it was about power. I had humiliated David, badly. And he wasnโ€™t about to let a woman beat him without revenge.

After what felt like an eternity, Darkmoonโ€™s wrought-iron gates came into view. Despite the early hour, as we pulled up to the building serving as their prison, I noticed several pack members milling about, their curious gazes following our procession.
