Chapter 226: Hannah
The man smiled down at me, his piercing blue eyes meeting mine. My friends' excitement was palpable, causing my cheeks to flush.
โOh, thanks, but thatโs not necessary,โ I said, displaying my wedding ring. โIโm married.โ
His eyes flickered to my ring, but surprisingly, his smile widened. โA man can still buy a lady a drink, no?โ he asked. โI assure you, there will be no strings attached.โ
My cheeks burned under his gaze. That was certainly bold. I shook my head. โReally, thank you. But Iโm not interested.โ
โI see. Well, if you change your mindโฆ Iโm David,โ he said, extending his hand.
I hesitated before shaking it. โHannah.โ
โItโs a pleasure to meet you, Hannah,โ David said, glancing at my friends. โAnd you as well, ladies. Are you from around here?โ
โWeโre visiting,โ Viona said, leaning forward with a sly grin and gesturing to Amber. โFresh breakup.โ
Amberโs eyes widened, but David simply smiled. โIโm sorry to hear that. Wellโฆ Iโll leave you to it, then. Have a nice night.โ
โYou too.โ
He turned to leave, then paused, giving me one last intense look. โYou know,โ he said, โthereโs a great hiking trail nearby, leading to a beautiful waterfall. If youโre interested, Iโd be happy to show you and your friends sometime.โ
I smiled politely. โThatโs very kind of you, but I think weโll be okay on our own.โ
David nodded, unfazed. โOf course. Well, if you change your mindโฆโ He produced a business card and slid it across the bar. โGive me a call. For hiking tips, orโฆ anything else.โ
With a final smile, he left. Immediately, my friends swarmed me. โOoh, Hannah!โ Viona squealed, gripping my arm. โThat guy was totally into you!โ
Emma nodded enthusiastically. โSeriously, he couldnโt take his eyes off you.โ
My face flushed. โCome on, guys. He was just being friendly,โ I said, looking at the business card in my handโthe hand with my wedding ring. โAnd besides, I told him I was married.โ
Amber raised an eyebrow. โHe didnโt seem too bothered by that. He practically undressed you with his eyes.โ
โYou should call him,โ Viona said, taking the card. โDavid Thompson, local real estate agent. Ooh, fancy. I bet you could tour some of the lavish mansions around here and have some fun in the bedrooms while youโre at it.โ
I snatched the card back. โIโm not calling him,โ I said, a growl in my voice. โBesides, Iโm still married. How many times do I have to say that?โ
โYeah, to a cheating a**hole,โ Viona muttered.
I shot her a withering look. โWe donโt know that for sure. Drake hasnโt found anything yet.โ
Viona sighed. โCome on, Hannah,โ Amber said gently. โEven if Noah isnโt cheating, you two are getting divorced. Thereโs no harm in a little flirtation.โ
I shook my head firmly and tossed the card in a nearby trash can. โNo. Iโm not dating anyone until the divorce is final. End of discussion.โ
The girls exchanged glances and dropped the subject. Once seated and our meals ordered, the conversation thankfully shifted. I was relieved, though the thought of the man and his card lingered.
โSo, Amber,โ Viona said, sipping her drink, โhow are you holding up? Really?โ
Amber sighed, pushing her food around her plate. โItโsโฆ hard. I keep thinking about all the signs I missed, you know? I thought something was up when he wanted to have the wedding so quickly, but I completely ignored that feeling. But Iโm glad I found out now, before the wedding.โ
