Chapter 226: Hannah

The man smiled down at me, his piercing blue eyes meeting mine. My friends' excitement was palpable, causing my cheeks to flush.

โ€œOh, thanks, but thatโ€™s not necessary,โ€ I said, displaying my wedding ring. โ€œIโ€™m married.โ€

His eyes flickered to my ring, but surprisingly, his smile widened. โ€œA man can still buy a lady a drink, no?โ€ he asked. โ€œI assure you, there will be no strings attached.โ€

My cheeks burned under his gaze. That was certainly bold. I shook my head. โ€œReally, thank you. But Iโ€™m not interested.โ€

โ€œI see. Well, if you change your mindโ€ฆ Iโ€™m David,โ€ he said, extending his hand.

I hesitated before shaking it. โ€œHannah.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s a pleasure to meet you, Hannah,โ€ David said, glancing at my friends. โ€œAnd you as well, ladies. Are you from around here?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re visiting,โ€ Viona said, leaning forward with a sly grin and gesturing to Amber. โ€œFresh breakup.โ€

Amberโ€™s eyes widened, but David simply smiled. โ€œIโ€™m sorry to hear that. Wellโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll leave you to it, then. Have a nice night.โ€

โ€œYou too.โ€

He turned to leave, then paused, giving me one last intense look. โ€œYou know,โ€ he said, โ€œthereโ€™s a great hiking trail nearby, leading to a beautiful waterfall. If youโ€™re interested, Iโ€™d be happy to show you and your friends sometime.โ€

I smiled politely. โ€œThatโ€™s very kind of you, but I think weโ€™ll be okay on our own.โ€

David nodded, unfazed. โ€œOf course. Well, if you change your mindโ€ฆโ€ He produced a business card and slid it across the bar. โ€œGive me a call. For hiking tips, orโ€ฆ anything else.โ€

With a final smile, he left. Immediately, my friends swarmed me. โ€œOoh, Hannah!โ€ Viona squealed, gripping my arm. โ€œThat guy was totally into you!โ€

Emma nodded enthusiastically. โ€œSeriously, he couldnโ€™t take his eyes off you.โ€

My face flushed. โ€œCome on, guys. He was just being friendly,โ€ I said, looking at the business card in my handโ€”the hand with my wedding ring. โ€œAnd besides, I told him I was married.โ€

Amber raised an eyebrow. โ€œHe didnโ€™t seem too bothered by that. He practically undressed you with his eyes.โ€

โ€œYou should call him,โ€ Viona said, taking the card. โ€œDavid Thompson, local real estate agent. Ooh, fancy. I bet you could tour some of the lavish mansions around here and have some fun in the bedrooms while youโ€™re at it.โ€

I snatched the card back. โ€œIโ€™m not calling him,โ€ I said, a growl in my voice. โ€œBesides, Iโ€™m still married. How many times do I have to say that?โ€

โ€œYeah, to a cheating a**hole,โ€ Viona muttered.

I shot her a withering look. โ€œWe donโ€™t know that for sure. Drake hasnโ€™t found anything yet.โ€

Viona sighed. โ€œCome on, Hannah,โ€ Amber said gently. โ€œEven if Noah isnโ€™t cheating, you two are getting divorced. Thereโ€™s no harm in a little flirtation.โ€

I shook my head firmly and tossed the card in a nearby trash can. โ€œNo. Iโ€™m not dating anyone until the divorce is final. End of discussion.โ€

The girls exchanged glances and dropped the subject. Once seated and our meals ordered, the conversation thankfully shifted. I was relieved, though the thought of the man and his card lingered.

โ€œSo, Amber,โ€ Viona said, sipping her drink, โ€œhow are you holding up? Really?โ€

Amber sighed, pushing her food around her plate. โ€œItโ€™sโ€ฆ hard. I keep thinking about all the signs I missed, you know? I thought something was up when he wanted to have the wedding so quickly, but I completely ignored that feeling. But Iโ€™m glad I found out now, before the wedding.โ€
