Chapter 185: Hannah

The sounds of fighting ceased, leaving only the growls escaping my throatโ€”a reaction I hadn't consciously initiated. Drake stared, momentarily stunned, his gaze dropping to my left hand protectively covering my stomach. Then, meeting my fiery gaze, understanding dawned.

โ€œHannah, are youโ€ฆ?โ€

No, I thought, panicking. Pull yourself together!

Straightening, I cleared my throat and left the ring, hoping to pass it off as a simple stomachache.

โ€œSorry, Drake,โ€ I mumbled, hurrying toward my gym bag. โ€œIโ€™m not feeling well. Letโ€™s call it a day.โ€

But Drake wasn't convinced. He followed, his footsteps echoing in the empty training center. I kept my back turned, hoping to hide my crimson face, focusing solely on retrieving my bag and escaping.

โ€œHannah, wait,โ€ he called, jogging to catch up. โ€œWe need to talk.โ€

I quickened my pace, breathless, but Drake was faster. He reached me as I grabbed my bag, placing a hand on my shoulder to stop my flight.

โ€œHannah,โ€ he said, his voice low and serious. โ€œYouโ€™re pregnant, arenโ€™t you?โ€

I froze, my heart pounding. He couldn't know; only Viona knew, and even then, I often questioned my decision to confide in her. Slowly, I turned, striving for a neutral expression.

โ€œWhat?โ€ I scoffed, feigning ignorance. โ€œNo, I justโ€”โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to lie,โ€ Drake interrupted, his intense gaze making my stomach churn. โ€œYour reaction when I touched your stomach, the protectivenessโ€ฆ it all makes sense.โ€

I tried to deny it, but no words came. My silence seemed to confirm his suspicions; he nodded slowly.

โ€œI thought so,โ€ he murmured, sighing and running a hand through his hair. โ€œLook, I wonโ€™t tell anyone. You donโ€™t even have to admit it. But Hannah, you canโ€™t engage in combat while pregnant. Itโ€™s too dangerous.โ€

My heart hammered. Dammit, he was too perceptive. There was no turning back.

โ€œDrake, if I am pregnant,โ€ I said cautiously, still not confirming it, โ€œthen I need to protect my child. I canโ€™t stop training and become vulnerable again.โ€

His expression softened; he stepped closer. โ€œI understand. But there are safer ways to train, ways that wonโ€™t put you or the baby at risk.โ€

โ€œLike what?โ€ I asked, despite my suspicion.

โ€œDefensive techniques, evasion, non-contact drills,โ€ Drake suggested. โ€œI can modify exercises to avoid abdominal impact. If you want to continue training, Iโ€™ll find safe ways.โ€

I narrowed my eyes, still wary despite his apparent kindness. โ€œAnd, hypothetically, if I needed these accommodationsโ€”which I donโ€™tโ€”what would you want in return?โ€

Drake smiled sheepishly. โ€œJust what we agreed on: a date with Zoe.โ€

I chuckled. โ€œYouโ€™re still hung up on that?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m persistent,โ€ Drake grinned. His expression turned serious. โ€œBut Hannah, I want to help you. This isnโ€™t just about Zoe.โ€
