Chapter 182
A grimace tugged at my upper lip. โWell, even if the divorce gets out, weโre nearing the end of our three-month agreement,โ I said. โSo we could handle that. But as for the affairโฆโ
Viona shot me a withering look. โJust tell me, Hannahโโ
โOh, Goddess, no.โ I waved my hand before she could even get the question out about me and Drake. โNever. Not in a million years.โ
She huffed. โYouโre sure? With all that stuff you guys have been doing latelyโฆ I mean, Iโm not judging, but itโs risky, Hannah.โ
โIโm not. I swear,โ I growled. โItโs never gonna happen. Drake and I are just friends.โ
Viona, believing me, nodded and leaned back in her seat. โWell, I think you should talk to Noah about this, at the very least. If someone is spreading this kind of gossip, it could spell the end for you. And with your little one on the wayโฆโ
Her voice trailed off, but the implication remained: with a baby on the way, I needed to be careful. I couldnโt risk any public upset until I was safely back in my rightful pack as the female Alpha.
โI know,โ I said softly. โIโll keep an eye on things.โ
โHannah.โ Viona narrowed her eyes and folded her arms across her chest, leveling me with a stern glare. โYou have to tell Noah. You have to tell him everything.โ
My eyes widened. โYou meanโโ
โYes, Hannah. You have to tell him aboutโฆโ She mouthed the last two words: โYour baby.โ
โNo. No way.โ I shook my head, waving both hands. โNot happening, Viona. He canโt know. He. Canโt. Know.โ
She furrowed her brow. โWhy not?โ
โBecause,โ I huffed, โif he finds out that Iโm pregnant with his baby, heโll forbid the divorce. You know I canโt stay with him. I canโt live like that, and neither can my child.โ
โSo youโd rather put your child in danger?โ she asked. โHell, Hannah, youโre making all these assumptions about him andโโ
โIโm sorry, Viona, but I know him better than you do.โ
Viona quickly shut her mouth and sighed. โFine, fine. I understand,โ she said. โBut I think itโs worth considering. If someone really is trying to stir up trouble on this scale, youโll want himโthe Alpha of Nightcrestโon yours and your babyโs side.โ
Another retort died in my throat. Viona was right, of course; it would be safer with Noah knowing the truth. We could tackle whatever nefarious bullshit was going on together. He wouldnโt let anyone harm our baby, and that was a fact.
โListen,โ Viona said softly, reaching across the table to touch my hand, โyou could just talk to him. Tell him what you want. Maybe you could still have a divorce while figuring out something that works for you two and the baby.โ
I sighed. โโฆI canโt handle joint custody, if thatโs what you mean,โ I said.
โIt doesnโt have to be like that. But I think you really should consider just talking to him.โ Viona blinked at me, jutting her chin outโsilently urging me to think about her proposal. And she did have a point, no matter how much it hurt.
โFine,โ I finally said after a beat of silence. โIโll consider talking to Noah.โ
โTalk to Noah about what?โ
The sound of an all-too-familiar voice caused us both to jerk our heads up in panic. Turning, I saw Scott headed toward our table.
