Chapter 182

A grimace tugged at my upper lip. โ€œWell, even if the divorce gets out, weโ€™re nearing the end of our three-month agreement,โ€ I said. โ€œSo we could handle that. But as for the affairโ€ฆโ€

Viona shot me a withering look. โ€œJust tell me, Hannahโ€”โ€

โ€œOh, Goddess, no.โ€ I waved my hand before she could even get the question out about me and Drake. โ€œNever. Not in a million years.โ€

She huffed. โ€œYouโ€™re sure? With all that stuff you guys have been doing latelyโ€ฆ I mean, Iโ€™m not judging, but itโ€™s risky, Hannah.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not. I swear,โ€ I growled. โ€œItโ€™s never gonna happen. Drake and I are just friends.โ€

Viona, believing me, nodded and leaned back in her seat. โ€œWell, I think you should talk to Noah about this, at the very least. If someone is spreading this kind of gossip, it could spell the end for you. And with your little one on the wayโ€ฆโ€

Her voice trailed off, but the implication remained: with a baby on the way, I needed to be careful. I couldnโ€™t risk any public upset until I was safely back in my rightful pack as the female Alpha.

โ€œI know,โ€ I said softly. โ€œIโ€™ll keep an eye on things.โ€

โ€œHannah.โ€ Viona narrowed her eyes and folded her arms across her chest, leveling me with a stern glare. โ€œYou have to tell Noah. You have to tell him everything.โ€

My eyes widened. โ€œYou meanโ€”โ€

โ€œYes, Hannah. You have to tell him aboutโ€ฆโ€ She mouthed the last two words: โ€œYour baby.โ€

โ€œNo. No way.โ€ I shook my head, waving both hands. โ€œNot happening, Viona. He canโ€™t know. He. Canโ€™t. Know.โ€

She furrowed her brow. โ€œWhy not?โ€

โ€œBecause,โ€ I huffed, โ€œif he finds out that Iโ€™m pregnant with his baby, heโ€™ll forbid the divorce. You know I canโ€™t stay with him. I canโ€™t live like that, and neither can my child.โ€

โ€œSo youโ€™d rather put your child in danger?โ€ she asked. โ€œHell, Hannah, youโ€™re making all these assumptions about him andโ€”โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Viona, but I know him better than you do.โ€

Viona quickly shut her mouth and sighed. โ€œFine, fine. I understand,โ€ she said. โ€œBut I think itโ€™s worth considering. If someone really is trying to stir up trouble on this scale, youโ€™ll want himโ€”the Alpha of Nightcrestโ€”on yours and your babyโ€™s side.โ€

Another retort died in my throat. Viona was right, of course; it would be safer with Noah knowing the truth. We could tackle whatever nefarious bullshit was going on together. He wouldnโ€™t let anyone harm our baby, and that was a fact.

โ€œListen,โ€ Viona said softly, reaching across the table to touch my hand, โ€œyou could just talk to him. Tell him what you want. Maybe you could still have a divorce while figuring out something that works for you two and the baby.โ€

I sighed. โ€œโ€ฆI canโ€™t handle joint custody, if thatโ€™s what you mean,โ€ I said.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t have to be like that. But I think you really should consider just talking to him.โ€ Viona blinked at me, jutting her chin outโ€”silently urging me to think about her proposal. And she did have a point, no matter how much it hurt.

โ€œFine,โ€ I finally said after a beat of silence. โ€œIโ€™ll consider talking to Noah.โ€

โ€œTalk to Noah about what?โ€

The sound of an all-too-familiar voice caused us both to jerk our heads up in panic. Turning, I saw Scott headed toward our table.
