Chapter 174
โIโm going to let both of you train me,โ I replied coldly, turning to leave for the training center. โSeparately, because youโre clearly too childish to work together.โ I brushed past them and stormed off.
Back in the training center, Noah grumbled, โWhat changed your mind?โ
I paused, gathering my things. Honestly, I wasnโt sureโtheir display was sickening and infuriating, yet it also revealed their fighting abilities and passion.
โJustโฆ accept it and shut up,โ I growled, zipping my bag and throwing it over my shoulder. โAnd if either of you messes up again, Iโm calling a real trainer.โ
Noah and Drake exchanged glances and nodded. But I wasnโt satisfied.
โI expect an apology from both of you before I do anything.โ
A heavy silence followed. Both stiffened. I saw Noahโs nostrils flare, Drakeโs sharp intake of breath.
โI mean it,โ I growled, showing my fangs slightly.
Drake moved first. He turned to Noah, extending a hand, revealing his bruised face. โIโm sorry, man,โ he said quietly. โThat was too far.โ
Noah remained stiff, his eyes darting between Drakeโs hand and face. For a moment, I thought heโd leave, but he didnโt.
To my surprise, he shook Drakeโs hand. โIโm sorry, too. Andโฆโ He paused, clenching his jaw. โYouโre a good fighter. Iโll give you that.โ
Drake chuckled. โYouโre not so bad yourself.โ
โGood,โ I huffed, brushing past them. โPut it behind you, or next time, Iโll pummel you both.โ
Without looking back, I headed for the door, hiding a small smile. Maybe that apology, especially from Noah, was progress. I couldn't be sure.
Before I reached the door, I heard footsteps. Drake skidded to a halt in front of me, head bowed.
โI have to ask something,โ he whispered. โAbout compensationโฆโ
I frowned, adjusting my bag. โYou want me to pay you? Are you strapped for cash?โ
Drake shook his head, lowering his voice, glancing at Noah, who was rinsing his face. โNo. Itโsโฆ if I train you, could you help me with Zoe?โ
My lips pursed. Zoe.
โAll I ask is one last date,โ he said. โIf you help me set up a date with her, Iโll train you. And I wonโt do anything like that again.โ He gestured to the blood on his shirt.
I hesitated. Zoe wasnโt interested in him, and frankly, neither was I. But Drake was a friend, and he looked desperate. Then I saw Noah splashing water on his face, and I softened, for reasons I didnโt want to admit. Maybe if I got Zoe away from himโฆ
I shouldnโt have considered it, but I did. Iโd seen a part of Noah that day, a fighting spirit, a possible care.
Shoving past Drake, I snapped, โFine. But this is the last time.โ
