Chapter 777 Are You Kidding Me?

Hayley’s POV:

At exactly two o’clock in the afternoon, someone knocked on my door.

I let Hera pick up the scent from the other side, and when she confirmed who it was, a smirk tugged at the corner of my lips.

It was him.

Knock–knock–knock, knock–knock, knock-

The rhythm was unmistakable–three, two, one.

I walked to the door and opened it without hesitation. “Ma’am, room service. Would you like your room cleaned today?” Nocturne stood there dressed like a proper hotel attendant–shirt, vest, bowtie, and all. He even had the posture down.

“Perfect timing. I made a bit of a mess on the carpet. Come in and clean it up, would you? And keep it quiet - I was just about to lie back down.” I stepped aside, playing along with his act as he stepped in.

The moment the door closed behind him, his polite hotel smile dropped. His eyes, sharp and suspicious, locked onto mine.

“Nocturne,” I said, breaking the silence.

“You work for Dominic?” he asked bluntly.

I shook my head. “No. Just like you, I’m not under his command. He hires me from time to time. That’s it.”

“Then you must be with SI. When’s Dominic showing up?” His tone turned arrogant in an instant.

I got the message. In his eyes, I was just a delicate, disposable Omega girl–nothing worth his attention.

Of course, he had no idea I was Halcyon, the organization’s top operative. People at his level had no clearance to even know what I looked like.

At this moment, he likely believed that Dominic had sent a low-level contact to deliver a message.

And when he saw that contact was me–just a young-looking Omega–he clearly wasn’t impressed.

I wondered how his expression would change once he found out who I really was.

That thought made me chuckle softly.

Then, with the most innocent face I could manage, I said, “Who said Dominic was coming?”

“You messing with me?” In a flash, his eyes glowed with a dangerous intensity–wolf eyes, sharp and golden, glinting with warning.

“Relax. I’m not here to hurt you,” I said calmly. “And yes, I do know Dominic. Actually…”

I took a breath and went straight to the point, hoping to win his trust. “I am Halcyon.”

Nocturne exhaled sharply, clearly irritated. “Dominic didn’t tell you? Halcyon’s supposed to be a guy.”

“Says who?”

I raised a brow with a mix of annoyance and amusement. “I’m a full-blooded, youthful girl, thank you very much.”

I’d never disclosed my gender within the organization. It was quite convenient that people simply assumed I was a man.

“I don’t need Dominic to tell me anything; I have a brain of my own,” Nocturne said flatly. “I’ve heard Halcyon speak. I know the difference between a man’s voice and a woman’s.”

“Oh, that’s what this is about.” I suddenly remembered. I picked up my phone, fiddled with it for a second, and then hit record. I spoke into the mic, “Is this the voice you’re talking about?”

Then I added the voice filter. When I hit play, a deep, calm male voice echoed from the speaker. “Listen carefully. Is this the voice you’re talking about?”

Nocturne’s expression darkened immediately. He stared at me like he’d just seen a ghost.

“You have got to be kidding me,” he muttered.

“A girl–not even 20, could she possibly be some unstoppable, high-level operator?”

He shook his head, eyes wild with disbelief. “This has to be some joke. Dominic must have arranged this entire situation with you just to play a trick on me.

“Yeah, that’s it. That’s got to be it,” he mumbled, pacing slightly, still eyeing me like I was part of a bad dream.

Then, without warning, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a smoke bomb. He slammed it to the ground.

Thick white smoke exploded through the room.

I didn’t even have time to blink. I heard the door slam open–then a blur of black fur shot past me. A sleek, powerful wolf with long black hair vanished out the door, faster than my eyes could track.
