Chapter 772 Interested in Jumping Ship?
Hayleyโs POV:
Darn it! That jerk actually played me!
As I gritted my teeth and inhaled sharply in frustration, I flipped my wrist to reveal the silver needle hidden in my sleeve. All that effort was for nothingโI had brought him back from miles away, believing I was doing him a favor. Should I make him suffer like those rogues, every nerve screaming in pain? Or maybe I should go for the lower blow, ruin his manhood, and make sure he never dares to flirt with another woman again?
Since he took advantage of me like that, the least I could do was devise the perfect punishment. And then it hit me.
Without hesitation, I raised my hand and jabbed the needle into the back of Trumanโs neck.
His body jolted, muscles locking up for a momentโthen he went limp, completely unconscious. A few minutes later, I was at Melodyโs door, ringing the bell with Truman slung over my shoulder. The door opened quickly. Melody stood in the doorway, blinking at our awkward position with clear curiosity in her eyes.
โMs. Carson, may I help you?โ She asked coolly, her tone surprisingly calm.
Her nonchalant reaction caught me a little off guard.
โAhem!โ I cleared my throat awkwardly, then said slowly, โMs. Melody, youโve seen how Trumanโs been harassing me these past few days. Today, he even followed me. He clearly had some shady intentions.โ
โHe had shady intentions with you?โ Melody arched a brow, giving us both a long, amused look.
The way she glanced between us made it very clear what she was thinking. Judging by the position you two are in right now, are you sure it wasnโt the other way around?
I caught on immediately and shot a quick glance at Trumanโout cold and entirely at my mercy. โOf course,โ I said firmly. โHe couldnโt win, so I took him down. What youโre seeing now is the result. And honestly, I hope this helps you see his true colors.โ
โHeโs an Alpha, and you took him down? An Omega like you?โ Melody looked at me skeptically, lifting one eyebrow again.
There was something off about her toneโlike she knew more than she let on. Could she possibly know who I really was?
No. Iโm probably overthinking. No one here knew my actual identity.
What did she mean by that?
I shook my head and offered her a serious suggestion. โYes. That guyโs nothing but a player. If heโs not your destined mate, youโd be better off ditching him and picking someone loyal.โ
โOh, and Iโm starting a new company,โ I added. โIf youโre willing, Iโd love for you to come work for me. Whatever Trumanโs paying you, Iโll match it. Do well, and Iโll even introduce you to someone who might be a good mate. What do you say?โ
โYouโre poaching his right-hand woman. Does he know?โ Melody blinked in surprise.
โHe doesnโt need to,โ I replied, letting Truman slide off my shoulder and thud onto the floor. โLosers donโt get a say.โ
โLet me be blunt,โ I continued. โI have a good impression of you. But Truman? Iโve had enough. If you walk away from him and join me, I wonโt have to hold back the next time I deal with him.โ
Melody tapped her chin thoughtfully. โSo technically, I just saved his life, didnโt I?โ
โHuh? I guess you could say that,โ I answered without thinking, then quickly realized I was getting sidetracked. I straightened up and corrected myself. โThatโs not the point. Iโm asking you one thing: are you in, or not?โ
