Chapter 751 Ambush

Hayleyโ€™s POV

โ€œDelivery confirmed, Mr. Byrd,โ€ I said, raising a brow at him.

Humbert looked like he couldnโ€™t believe what was happening. His mouth hung open in shock, frozen in place.

I sighed and snapped my fingers in front of his face. โ€œWake up, Mr. Byrd. This isnโ€™t a dream. If you donโ€™t take it now, I might just walk off with this gemstone.โ€

That finally did it. A huge grin spread across his face as he reached out eagerly and took the raw stone from me.

As soon as it was in his hands, I smoothly slid my business card onto the gem and lifted my hand to my ear in a call-me gesture. โ€œThe stone is yours now. As for whether weโ€™ll move forward with our deal, Iโ€™ll wait for your call.โ€

Then I turned to the crowd of gem dealers watching us and called out, โ€œLimited stock, folks! First come, first served!โ€

The moment those words left my mouth, Humbert was instantly swarmed. People packed in around him so tightly, he looked like he might suffocate from joy.

It had been yearsโ€”decades, evenโ€”since heโ€™d been treated like a star.

A chunk of raw stone was bought for 4 million, and inside it turned out to be a rare, top-grade sapphire worth millions. He was still too stunned to speak.

And that womanโ€”Ms. Sanderโ€”had handed it over without so much as batting an eye.

Deep down, Humbert had already made up his mind. But since she wasnโ€™t rushing, he figured he could take his time too. It gave them both a chance to think things through more carefully.

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

By the time we left the auction, night had already fallen. I was in a great mood and even volunteered to drive. Tapping into my old Formula One instincts, I let myself loose behind the wheel.

If I didnโ€™t have to keep my Alpha identity hidden, I wouldโ€™ve let Hera run free. The terrain here was perfect for a wild sprint.

Still, flying down the road gave me that same liberating rush.

Naturally, I was the one who parked the car in the end.

Humming a tune, I twirled my keys around my finger and strolled toward the elevator.

But I hadnโ€™t gone far when I heard footsteps behind meโ€”steady, deliberate. Thenโ€”

โ€œAHHH!โ€

Chapter 751 Ambush

A manโ€™s scream echoed through the deserted underground garage.

Iโ€™d already ambushed him and now had him pinned under my foot.

Hera had caught his scent the moment he started following me, and Iโ€™d stayed alert ever since.

The guy was flat on the ground, one cheek pressed to the cold concrete, the other squashed under the sole of my shoe.

His combat dagger lay beside himโ€”military-grade, razor-sharp, sharp enough to slice hair mid-air. I had forced him to drop it to the ground. Luckily, heโ€™d only managed to snip off a few strands before I took him down.

I pressed my foot down harder. โ€œSo? Which pack are you from? Who sent youโ€”one of my old enemies?

When I took over as Alpha, Iโ€™d upset more than a few people.

The man gritted his teeth, his face twisted under the pressure, sweat beading on his forehead. But he stayed silent.

โ€œStill playing tough?โ€ My gaze dropped to the dagger. Calmly, I picked it up and raised it, aiming for his shoulder.

Just as I was about to bring it down, a sports car screeched to a halt not even two feet away.

Its headlights flashed straight into my eyes, blinding me.

The door swung open and a familiar figure stepped out. I squinted through the glare. It was Truman.

โ€œI knew weโ€™d meet again,โ€ he said casually, like we were old friends catching up.

โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ I snapped. I didnโ€™t even try to hide my annoyanceโ€”was he following me?

โ€œThis is my turf,โ€ Truman replied with a pleasant smile. โ€œCanโ€™t I be wherever I like?โ€ Then, ignoring the scowl I shot him, he looked down at the man beneath my boot.

โ€œMs. Carson,โ€ he said, his voice suddenly more serious. โ€œAre you planning to deliver justice your way on my turf?โ€
