Chapter 733 Decisive Blink
Hayleyโs POV:
Grandpaโs teasing voice called out behind me, โNow that youโve found your destined mate, you donโt want to spend time with this old man anymore.โ
I chuckled, but just then, I sneezed. โAchoo!โ
Hearing the commotion, Benjamin stepped out of his room. He took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. โItโs cold outโdonโt you know to put on more layers?โ
I flashed him a mischievous grin. โThatโs what I have you for.โ
โAnd what if Iโm not around?โ Benjamin scolded lightly.
โWell, then no one would know,โ I shot back boldly, making Benjaminโs face darken. I quickly tried to appease him. โAlright, Iโm just kidding. Iโll learn to take better care of myself from now on, okay? Satisfied, Mr. Southwell?โ
โBarely.โ Benjaminโs expression was stern for a second, then he broke into a smile. โSo, what brings you here so late? Could it be your grandfather was right, and someone canโt wait to officially become my mate in front of the Moon Goddess?โ
โAs if!โ I huffed, turning my face away in mock indignation. โIโm here to see Captain Langston!โ
โFrederick?โ Benjamin asked. โWhat do you need him for?โ
โThatโs between me and Captain Langstonโnone of your business!โ
With that, I pushed open Frederickโs door and walked right in.
Inside the room, Zayd had just taken off his clothes and was about to go to bed when I barged in. Startled, he yanked the blanket up and wrapped himself tightly, retreating to the far corner of the bed.
But while Zayd managed to protect his modesty, he left Frederick completely exposed, caught off guard, and mortified in front of me!
Frederick, who had never had a mate, blushed furiously, shooting desperate looks at Zayd, silently begging for help.
Zayd glanced at him, then clutched the blanket even tighter, offering no assistance.
Frederick glared at him, exasperated and aggrieved.
Hayleyโs POV:
Watching the two of them exchanging frantic glances, I was just about to tease them when Benjamin followed me in and gave me a light tap on the forehead.
If it had been anyone else daring enough to do that, I wouldโve let Hera take over and put them in their place.
But this was Benjamin.
โOw!โ I pretended to be hurt, pouting. โWhat was that for?โ
โFor barging in and gawking at other men,โ Benjamin said, narrowing his eyes in disapproval. Then he grabbed a jacket and tossed it over Frederick. โThere, now you can look at him.โ
I rubbed my forehead and stepped up to the bed.
Frederick was lying with his head toward the edge, so I leaned in until our faces were almost touching. โCaptain Langston, how about we work together? Now that Claudio, or should I say Phillip, has been taken away, Iโm guessing heโs still in Xetonia. I want to use your resources for a citywide search. In exchange, Iโll let you go free. But Ryder wasnโt killed by me, and Iโd appreciate it if you kept that to yourself for now. If you want to cooperate, blink. If not, Iโll let my wolf snap your neck!โ
As I spoke, I bared my sharp wolf fangs at him in a mock threat.
Frederick glared at me, staying silent.
I grinned. โIโm just messing with you. If youโd rather not, you can stay here as long as you want. Iโve got enough on my plate and really donโt need a bunch of Beta cops trailing after me. Iโm sure you understand.โ
I fixed my gaze on Frederick, waiting for his answer.
After a moment of silence, Frederick gave me a decisive blink.
Without hesitation, I took out a silver needle and performed acupuncture on him.
A few minutes later, Frederick had regained his strength.
He leapt out of bed and even demonstrated a set of wolf combat techniques.
โCaptain Langston, donโt forget our deal,โ I reminded him.
