Chapter 724 Meeting X
Hayleyโs POV:
โI donโt understand,โ I said, frowning at her in confusion. โRight is right, wrong is wrong. Whatโs so hard about facing the truth?
โIf someone canโt face it, it just means theyโre not brave enoughโtoo timid and weak. If they lack courage, why should anyone else pity them or go along with their cowardice? Thatโs not how the world works.โ
Laurel looked at me with concern. โYouโre young and headstrong, and as an Omega, thatโs going to cost you someday.โ
โThen let it cost me.โ I slipped my hands free from hers. โIโd rather pay the price than betray my own heart. Besides, I was actually an Alpha. I was more than capable of handling the consequences of my choices.โ
With that, I nodded politely and turned to leave.
Benjaminโs POV:
Iโd been standing nearby, listening to their conversation. When I saw Hayley walk away, clearly upset, I finally stepped forward to explain to Laurel on her behalf. โHayleyโs straightforward by nature. She doesnโt play games or look for hidden motives. If sheโs offended you, I apologize.โ
โSheโs my granddaughter. How could I ever hold a grudge against her?โ Laurel sighed, then added, โBut you, stay by her side and remind herโfearlessness isnโt always a virtue. I worry one day sheโll end up hurt.โ
โDonโt worry. Even if I get hurt, I wonโt let Hayley lose a single strand of hair,โ I promised her.
Laurel nodded. โIโm entrusting my granddaughter to you. Take good care of her, for my sake.โ
Hayley was my destined mate. No one needed to remind meโIโd protect her with everything I had.
โI will. If youโll excuse me, I should go after her now.โ
โGo on.โ
With that, I hurried to catch up with Hayley.
Hayleyโs POV:
The moment I got in the car, my phone rang.
โHello? If youโve got something to say, say it. If not, Iโm hanging up.โ
โHey now, is that the way to treat your old friend?โ Stevenโs complaining voice came through.
โGet to the point,โ I snapped, not in the mood for small talk.
โThe point? I thought youโd know by now!โ Steven drawled, sounding smug. โThe Jaggeds have completely lost their hold over the ruling family in their pack. Mission accomplished. Since you didnโt reach out, I figured Iโd call you to settle our deal.โ
โThat was fast.โ I realized Iโd underestimated Stevenโs capabilities.
โFast or slow, it all depends on my mood,โ Steven replied, full of selfโsatisfaction. โYou were my top priority. But you havenโt forgotten our arrangement, have you?โ
I frozeโI actually had forgotten.
After a brief silence, I forced myself to sound casual. โOf course I remember. Tonight worksโshe happens to be free for a drink.โ
โPerfect! Iโll bring a couple of good bottles. You come too, and bring Benjamin. Weโre not leaving till weโre all drunk!โ
Steven sounded positively delighted.
โSure. Same place as last timeโTimelight Hills,โ I said, then hung up.
Stevenโs POV:
I hadnโt expected her to hang up so quickly. I didnโt even get half my words out.
The way she handles thingsโdecisive and directโsheโs more like a highโranking pack leader than an Omega.
If I didnโt know better, Iโd think she was X herself!
Could she really get X to show up? She wouldnโt lie to me, would she?
Would someone as mysterious as X really agree to meet at some random place like Timelight Hills?
I had my doubts, but then again, I figured X must trust me.
X believed I wouldnโt betray their whereaboutsโmaybe thatโs why they seemed so unconcerned.
That evening, I arrived early at Timelight Hills, bottles in hand.
Iโd gone all outโput on the most expensive suit in my closet, even had my hair styled. Every strand was perfectly in place.
I waited a long time, nerves building, until finally I heard footsteps outside the door.
The door swung open, and the first to enter was Benjamin.
The moment I saw this Alpha, I jumped to my feet, every muscle tensed, my eyes locked on the space behind him.
Six years. After all this time, I was finally about to meet the legendary, mysterious X!
