Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 691: Thatโs My Decision
Benjaminโs POV:
As we stepped outside, Zayd approached, his grip firm on Frederickโs arm. He remained expressionless.
โMr. Southwell, this man attempted to sneak into Ms. Carsonโs room. Our people caught him,โ Zayd reported calmly.
โLet him go,โ I said flatly.
โYou heard him! Get your hands off me!โ Frederick snapped, yanking himself free from Zaydโs grasp with a scowl.
Claudio smirked. โCaptain Langston, you always boast about being righteous, yet here you are sneaking around like a common thief.โ
โStay out of this!โ Frederick shot back icily before turning his glare to Hayley. โIf you have nothing to hide, why do you need guards swarming the place?โ
โThat was my decision,โ I stated, irritated by his tone toward Hayley. I even considered letting Lawrence put him in his place.
Holding back my anger, I kept my voice calm. โHayley is the rightful heir of the Sanders. Plenty of people would love to see her harmed. Iโm ensuring her safety and her familyโs.โ
Frederick scoffed, clearly unconvinced. Then, his gaze shifted past me and Loretta, landing on the figure bound to a chair inside the room.
Reflexively, he shoved us aside and rushed in. Frederick lifted the personโs head. When he recognized Ryder, he instinctively checked for a pulse.
Seconds later, he turned to us in shock and disbelief. โYouโฆ you actually killed an unarmed student!โ
โWe can explain this,โ Hayley spoke up.
โExplain what? He called you a murderer just this afternoon, and now heโs lying here, lifeless, in your house! What kind of explanation could make sense?โ Frederick wasnโt willing to listen.
He shot me a disappointed look before releasing Ryder and striding over to Hayley. He then seized her arm and headed for the door.
Rage exploded inside me. I surrendered control to Lawrence, surged forward, and cut him off.
โBenjamin!โ Frederickโs voice cracked as he yelled, completely disregarding rank. โYouโve lost your bottom line because of her!โ
โHayley is my bottom line!โ I bared my fangs, a low growl rumbling in my throat. โIโm the one responsible for his death. Let her go!โ
Frederick might have held a lower rank, but we had grown up together at the Werewolf Combat Training Center. Our bond had always been strong. So, I knew exactly what kind of person he was โ stubborn to the core.
As expected, even when I unleashed my Alpha aura, he refused to release Hayley. His grip remained firm as he met my gaze. โAnd what if I donโt?โ
Suppressing my frustration for the sake of our years of friendship, I kept my voice steady. โYou have three seconds. Either let go, or Iโll make you.โ
Tension crackled between us as we locked eyes, neither willing to back down. Seeing that he still refused, I grabbed his collar and threw him to the ground. A sharp kick to his chest followed, though I held back, not using my full strength. He was on his feet again in an instant.
I expected him to fight back โ just like we used to as kids. Unexpectedly, he suddenly spun around and charged straight at Hayley.
โItโs all your fault!โ
