Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 691: Thatโ€™s My Decision

Benjaminโ€™s POV:

As we stepped outside, Zayd approached, his grip firm on Frederickโ€™s arm. He remained expressionless.

โ€œMr. Southwell, this man attempted to sneak into Ms. Carsonโ€™s room. Our people caught him,โ€ Zayd reported calmly.

โ€œLet him go,โ€ I said flatly.

โ€œYou heard him! Get your hands off me!โ€ Frederick snapped, yanking himself free from Zaydโ€™s grasp with a scowl.

Claudio smirked. โ€œCaptain Langston, you always boast about being righteous, yet here you are sneaking around like a common thief.โ€

โ€œStay out of this!โ€ Frederick shot back icily before turning his glare to Hayley. โ€œIf you have nothing to hide, why do you need guards swarming the place?โ€

โ€œThat was my decision,โ€ I stated, irritated by his tone toward Hayley. I even considered letting Lawrence put him in his place.

Holding back my anger, I kept my voice calm. โ€œHayley is the rightful heir of the Sanders. Plenty of people would love to see her harmed. Iโ€™m ensuring her safety and her familyโ€™s.โ€

Frederick scoffed, clearly unconvinced. Then, his gaze shifted past me and Loretta, landing on the figure bound to a chair inside the room.

Reflexively, he shoved us aside and rushed in. Frederick lifted the personโ€™s head. When he recognized Ryder, he instinctively checked for a pulse.

Seconds later, he turned to us in shock and disbelief. โ€œYouโ€ฆ you actually killed an unarmed student!โ€

โ€œWe can explain this,โ€ Hayley spoke up.

โ€œExplain what? He called you a murderer just this afternoon, and now heโ€™s lying here, lifeless, in your house! What kind of explanation could make sense?โ€ Frederick wasnโ€™t willing to listen.

He shot me a disappointed look before releasing Ryder and striding over to Hayley. He then seized her arm and headed for the door.

Rage exploded inside me. I surrendered control to Lawrence, surged forward, and cut him off.

โ€œBenjamin!โ€ Frederickโ€™s voice cracked as he yelled, completely disregarding rank. โ€œYouโ€™ve lost your bottom line because of her!โ€

โ€œHayley is my bottom line!โ€ I bared my fangs, a low growl rumbling in my throat. โ€œIโ€™m the one responsible for his death. Let her go!โ€

Frederick might have held a lower rank, but we had grown up together at the Werewolf Combat Training Center. Our bond had always been strong. So, I knew exactly what kind of person he was โ€“ stubborn to the core.

As expected, even when I unleashed my Alpha aura, he refused to release Hayley. His grip remained firm as he met my gaze. โ€œAnd what if I donโ€™t?โ€

Suppressing my frustration for the sake of our years of friendship, I kept my voice steady. โ€œYou have three seconds. Either let go, or Iโ€™ll make you.โ€

Tension crackled between us as we locked eyes, neither willing to back down. Seeing that he still refused, I grabbed his collar and threw him to the ground. A sharp kick to his chest followed, though I held back, not using my full strength. He was on his feet again in an instant.

I expected him to fight back โ€“ just like we used to as kids. Unexpectedly, he suddenly spun around and charged straight at Hayley.

โ€œItโ€™s all your fault!โ€
