Alpha Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 646: No Room for Weakness

Peterโ€™s POV:

Looking at Hayleyโ€”someone who shares my blood yet has always felt distant from our familyโ€”I couldnโ€™t help but feel a bit helpless.

โ€œStop calling him like that all the time. No matter what, heโ€™s still your father.โ€

She had a straightforward personality. Even though she was just an Omega, she was far from weak. On the contrary, she carried herself with strength and responsibility. I liked that about herโ€”it reassured me. At least I didnโ€™t have to worry about others bullying her just because of her lower rank.

But sometimes, she was too independent, as if she didnโ€™t need anyone. Cold. Unapproachable. I figured this was probably how she learned to protect herself after growing up alone. Even though she had been adopted by the ruling family of the Shadow Pack, she still grew up lonely without her parents by her side. Thinking about this, my heart ached for her again. The last thing I wanted was for her to take any risks for me.

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

โ€œYou should worry about yourself first.โ€ Seeing him so concerned about me, I couldnโ€™t help but tease him.

โ€œYou couldnโ€™t even beat a few wolves of your own rank. Donโ€™t go around telling people youโ€™re my brother.โ€

As an Alpha, I had rarely lost a fight since I was a childโ€”except for that one time. That loss was too devastating, and the price I paid was too great. I didnโ€™t want to lift a finger for a long time.

Before I knew it, I was lost in my thoughts again.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t my fault, okay? I was bedridden for yearsโ€”my muscles have wasted away.โ€ His voice pulled me back to reality.

โ€œAnd my wolf hasnโ€™t gone into battle mode in forever. They ganged up on meโ€”more than ten of them. Itโ€™s only natural I lost.โ€ Peter defended himself.

I glanced over at him carefully. He was still tall and lean but had lost a lot of muscle.

With a sigh, I shook my head and turned to Virginia. โ€œGo handle the discharge paperwork. Take him homeโ€”Iโ€™ll treat him myself!โ€

Virginia pretty much always did what I said without question. In no time, she had everything sorted out.

Back in my room, I started digging into the background of Loganโ€™s family. I had assumed someone was pulling the strings behind them, but to my surprise, I found nothing suspicious.

Chapter 646: No Room for Weakness

Logan was a hopeless alcoholic who wasted his life drinking, gambling, and chasing women. He never did anything productive. His mother had passed away early, and his son, Harlan, had followed in his footsteps, turning into a street thug. Their family had long since fallen into decline.

The only decent person among them was Julia Middleton, the actual victim. She lived an honest life, spending her time either studying or working part-time jobs. She relied on scholarships and financial aid and was about to graduate from university soon. She was a hardworking, ambitious girl.

Could it be that Peter had actually hurt this girl? I quickly dismissed the thought. Peter wasnโ€™t that kind of person.

โ€œWhat are you looking at?โ€ Benjamin walked in, asking casually.

โ€œJuliaโ€™s family records,โ€ I replied calmly.

โ€œYouโ€™re so focused. Found anything?โ€ He leaned in close, his breath warm against my ear as he peered at the screen.

After a moment, he came to the same conclusion. โ€œDoesnโ€™t look like thereโ€™s anything unusual.โ€

โ€œYeah, nothing stands out.โ€ I let out a deep breath. โ€œWhich is exactly why this is a problem.โ€

If this were some kind of conspiracy, at least weโ€™d have a way to fight backโ€”to deal with it head-on. But now, everything was leaning in favor of the victim. Unless we had a full nightโ€™s worth of surveillance footage from the room, there was no way to prove anything.

โ€œLooks like Peter might really have to take this girl as his mate.โ€ I joked helplessly.

But the moment I said it, Benjamin suddenly went quiet. He stood behind me, silent for a long time. Something felt off. I turned sharply to look at him.
