Chapter 596: Not Really Bothered
Hayleyโs POV:
โTell me about it,โ Loretta sighed once more. โUnless something miraculous happens, it looks like our family might end up in the same situation as your fiancรฉโs Southwell Groupโheading toward bankruptcy.โ
She mumbled under her breath, but then seemed to realize how inappropriate that sounded. Her expression changed, and she quickly apologized. โSorry, Hayley, I didnโt mean to jinx your fiancรฉโs business. Itโs just that our situations are starting to look so similarโฆโ
โBut honestly, compared to Southwell Group, my familyโs company is small potatoes. If the Parsonses go bankrupt, itโll be tough, but weโll tighten our belts and manage somehow. We can still pay off the debts.โ
โBut if Southwell Group falls, with their hundreds of billions of debt, I canโt even imagine how that would look.โ
โItโs fine,โ I replied casually, not really bothered by her words. I lowered my gaze, thinking for a moment, then asked, โDoes your dad invest in the stock market?โ
Loretta shook her head in surprise. โYouโre really overestimating our company, Hayley. The stock market is for publicly traded companies. Weโโ
โThatโs not what I meant,โ I said, noticing her misunderstanding. I patiently explained, โWhat I mean is, with the market being so unpredictable right now, itโs actually a good time to make some money. Earning a little shouldnโt be too difficult.โ
โWellโฆโ Loretta paused for a moment, clearly deep in thought, before responding. โFor people like us, the only stories we hear about stocks are the ones where someone loses everything or, even worse, ends up taking their own life over their investments. Itโs never a success story.โ
โMy dad prefers doing business the old-fashioned wayโslow and steady. Itโs safer, and at least we can at night. He always says, โLetโs take it slow. Weโre just not made for the fast money game.โโ
Seeing Loretta hesitating, I looked her in the eye and said seriously, โTomorrow is a day for miracles. Anyone who believes will see it come true.โ
Loretta, quick-witted and sharp, could sense there was more to my words than what was being said. Without warning, she grabbed my wrist and looked at me earnestly. โHayley, I believe you. Iโll get my dad to bet everything we have left on Southwell Group!โ
I couldnโt help but laugh at her seriousness. โYou donโt need to do that. Southwell Group is already done for. Thereโs no saving it.โ
โWait, what?โ Lorettaโs hopes deflated instantly. โSo Southwell Group really is going bankrupt? And now ourโฆโ

โNot necessarily,โ I replied, shaking my head. I then offered a clear suggestion, โYarbrough Pharmaceuticals is a solid pick. Tell your dad to invest there. But you need to act quicklyโdo it before tomorrow or youโll miss the opportunity.โ
โGot it!โ Loretta responded without hesitation.
Although she didnโt fully understand everything, she trusted me. She knew I wouldnโt lead her astray.
Behind Hayley and Loretta, someone had been listening to their entire conversation intently.
At 10:00 AM, the press conference for Ortega Enterprise was set up and ready to begin. The journalists were waiting, the contracts were ready, and everything was in place. Everyone was waiting for Steven to show up so they could finalize the deal with Ortega Enterprise and elevate the Ortegas to the top of the business world.
But by 11:00 AM, Steven had yet to arriveโthere wasnโt even a sign of him. The reporters, growing frustrated, began to whisper among themselves, wondering if the Ortegas were bluffing. They speculated that Steven had likely not agreed to anything. But given the Ortegasโ position as one of the leading werewolf families in the city and their success in the stock market, no one dared to leave.
In the back, Tina and Daniel were frantically pacing. Everyone was calling Steven, but none of their attempts were getting through. They even tried to reach him telepathically, using their wolf connection, but that didnโt work either.
Half an hour later, it finally dawned on themโSteven had stood them up! He had never intended to attend the press conference at all!
