Chapter 537: She Doesnโt Look Like a Student
Hayleyโs POV:
Loretta took the student ID and examined it like a detective, clearly distrusting Mira. It was a bit rude to treat Mira like that, so I quickly pulled Loretta aside and signaled for her to stop. Loretta wasnโt dumb. She saw what I meant and immediately handed the ID back. โSorry, my mistake, but you donโt look like a student.โ
Mira didnโt reply. She just turned and began packing her things.
Loretta, thinking Mira was upset, decided to approach her. โMira, right? I didnโt mean to offend you. Weโre roommates now, so if you ever need anything, just ask.โ
Mira remained silent, only taking a cigarette from her pack and idly fiddling with it. Loretta, with her usual directness, started to say, โYou canโt smoke hereโโ but she stopped. The earlier tension was enough; pushing it further would only make things worse. The atmosphere felt even more awkward than when they were fighting.
I sighed and looked at them helplessly. Loretta was straightforward but lacked maturity when it came to reading people. Mira, on the other hand, was naturally distant. Even without the recent tension, she wouldnโt have been particularly warm. But the misunderstanding had already occurred. From Lorettaโs point of view, sheโd upset her new roommate, and it seemed Mira was holding a grudge.
Loretta was a kind-hearted girl, and I didnโt want her to feel uncomfortable. So, I spoke up to ease the situation. โMira, Loretta is a good person. Donโt hold what happened against her.โ
Mira responded calmly, โIโm always like this. I have trouble warming up to anyone. Donโt worry about me.โ
Seeing Mira willing to speak, Loretta smiled in relief. โItโs okay,โ she said understandingly. โI also struggle with social anxiety and donโt like interacting much, but not as much as you do. Iโll have your back from now on.โ
โHmm,โ Mira replied lightly, her tone unreadable.
But the fact that they were now talking was enough to signal that the ice was starting to break. The issue seemed settled. I finally relaxed.
Later that evening, I was planning to treat Loretta to dinner, so I invited Mira along. The three of us found a restaurant. Neither Mira nor I were picky about food, so I let Loretta take care of the ordering.
As Loretta looked over the menu, she turned to me with concern. โHayley, this place seems a bit pricey. Should we go somewhere else? What if I bankrupt you?โ
โI havenโt eaten since last night. I could eat a whole cow right now.โ
I laughed at her exaggeration and reassured her, โItโs not that bad. I can still afford a meal. Letโs enjoy ourselves and eat well. I might need your help with class notes again.โ
โWell, if thatโs the case, I wonโt hold back. Iโm ordering,โ Loretta said, excited to pick something from the menu.
In the end, we all had a great meal. As I touched up my makeup in front of the mirror, Hera suddenly became agitated. I looked up to see Daniel, the person I couldnโt stand. I had just scolded him last time, and now he was strutting around with another woman. I shook my head and decided to ignore him. It was better not to engage with that madman.
But just before I turned away, I saw Kirsty appear out of nowhere and block Danielโs path. They started arguing. Daniel looked furious, and he shoved her away a few times during their argument. After a heated exchange, Kirsty lost her balance and almost fell. Luckily, a waiter rushed over to catch her. Daniel kept growling at her coldly, โStop with the nonsense! Iโve got more than just you as my mate! Can I deal with all of them if they all come to me for answers? If you keep pushing me, Iโll kill your wolf!โ
Kirsty, trembling with fear, whispered, โIโฆ Iโm pregnant.โ
Daniel paused for a moment, then said, โCome with me.โ He released his companion and walked out of the restaurant, with Kirsty following behind him.
