Chapter 39: Bite Through Your Neck

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

โ€œHayley, what did Ms. Anne want with you?โ€

I raised an eyebrow and gave her a cold look. โ€œWhatโ€™s it to you?โ€

Rachel wouldnโ€™t let it go. โ€œHayley, just because Ms. Anne treats you a little nicer, donโ€™t go thinking youโ€™re all that. Youโ€™d better tell me what she said to you, or else I turn into a wolf right here and bite through your neck.โ€

I scoffed at her threat, tossed a โ€œDo what you want,โ€ over my shoulder, and walked past her. I seriously doubted she had the guts to shift into a wolf and cause trouble in front of the teacherโ€™s office.

And sure enough, after I left, she didnโ€™t follow me.

That afternoon after school, Henry drove me home. Normally, he couldnโ€™t resist throwing a few sarcastic jabs my way, but today, he didnโ€™t say a word. He just sat quietly.

When we got home, George lit up the moment he saw me and started praising me with a big smile. โ€œHayley, congratulations on winning the International Tennis Open! I was out of the country during your matches, and Iโ€™m really sorry I couldnโ€™t be there in person to cheer you on for the finals. You were amazing. Here, this is for you.โ€ With that, he pulled a black Transway Bank card from his pocket.

โ€œGrandpa, what are you doing?โ€ Before I could say anything, Henry interrupted, sounding annoyed.

โ€œHayz, take it!โ€ George ignored him and pushed the card into my hand. โ€œThis is your reward. Iโ€™m getting old, and I donโ€™t really know what you young folks like these days, so if you need anything, just use this to buy it yourself.โ€

I stared at the black card, fully aware of what it meant. โ€œGrandpa, I canโ€™t take this. Itโ€™s way too much.โ€

โ€œNonsense, donโ€™t talk about whatโ€™s too much or not enough. The only thing I know is my Hayz deserves the best.โ€

โ€œGrandpaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, Hayz! You should be happy about winning the championship. Iโ€™ve already arranged for a celebration party. Everyoneโ€™s going to get together and have a good time. Also, Hayz, feel free to invite your friends over so they can help celebrate with you.โ€

I really couldnโ€™t refuse him, so I accepted it, but I made a silent promise to myself: Grandpa has been so good to me. As the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, whether or not I end up marrying the Southwellsโ€™ heir, Iโ€™m definitely going to protect the alliance between our two packs.

As I was thinking that, I caught a glimpse of Henry out of the corner of my eye. His face was twisted with jealousy as he stared at his phone, texting someoneโ€”probably complaining about me.

I saw the message Henry sent, griping about George giving Hayley the black card as a reward. So, sheโ€™s a tennis champion now, huh? Sheโ€™s gotten pretty famous.

It seems like this Omega is fitting into our Midnight Park better and better. But the more I watch her, the more I feel like sheโ€™s hiding a lot of secrets. Sheโ€™s definitely not as simple as she looks.

Still, right now, Iโ€™ve got bigger things to focus on. I donโ€™t have the time or energy to worry about her.

โ€œAlpha, weโ€™ve investigated, but for some reason, we couldnโ€™t find a single trace of anything. Plus, the road surveillance footage from that day was wiped clean. Clearly, someone tampered with it. Looks like they donโ€™t want us finding anything,โ€ my Beta, Tyrone, reported as he stepped into my office.

โ€œWe also looked into Thomas, but heโ€™s not saying a word. And given the agreement we made, we canโ€™t make any further contact with him. We havenโ€™t been able to get any useful info from that side either.โ€ After finishing his report, Tyrone respectfully asked, โ€œAlpha, should we keep investigating?โ€

My mind flashed back to that day, the scenes from the race replaying over and over. If it hadnโ€™t been for the accident, I might have been able to confirm if she was the one Iโ€™ve been searching forโ€”Sara.

But now, all the leads were cut off.

โ€œHowโ€™s the investigation into the wolfsbane and the brakes coming along?โ€ I asked.

At the mention of it, his expression darkened. โ€œWeโ€™ve tracked it down. The culprit was a Rogue, but heโ€™s got no fixed residence and has completely vanished. Iโ€™ve already sent people to investigate the pack he was born into. We should have results soon.โ€

โ€œGood. When you find him, donโ€™t spook him. I want to catch whoeverโ€™s behind this. And as for Saraโ€ฆ put that on hold for now. If she doesnโ€™t want to be found, why should I keep pushing? If weโ€™re truly meant to be, weโ€™ll meet again.โ€

โ€œYes, Alpha.โ€

Tyrone bowed and quietly left. Now, I was alone in the huge office. I stared out at the busy night cityscape, but a part of me still felt empty inside. I didnโ€™t know how much time passed before I finally turned my gaze away from the window, grabbed my car keys, and headed outโ€ฆ to a certain place.
