Chapter 384: Doesnโ€™t That Seem Unfair to Her?

Bill gently patted Dorothyโ€™s shoulder as they both stared into the night. After a long pause, he spoke. โ€œLetโ€™s wait another two years. Once Hayz is married, we can tell her then.โ€

โ€œEven though sheโ€™s not our biological granddaughter, weโ€™ve treated her as our own for all these years. Honestly, every time I tell her sheโ€™s our sonโ€™s daughter, I feel guilty.โ€

Tears fell from Dorothyโ€™s eyes. โ€œI wish she was truly our sonโ€™s child, but it wasnโ€™t meant to be. Sheโ€™s been with us for so long, helping heal the pain of losing him, and sheโ€™s managed the Shadow Pack so well.โ€

โ€œBut she has her parents. Will they try to find her? Weโ€™ve kept her here all these yearsโ€”doesnโ€™t that seem unfair to her?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve thought about that too,โ€ Bill replied, handing Dorothy a tissue to wipe her tears. โ€œHayz has always been smart, with excellent leadership skills, and her wolf is rare and strong. Her biological parents must be from a powerful pack, so they could find her if they wanted. But for some reason, they havenโ€™t.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, though. Sheโ€™s the Alpha of our Shadow Pack and will be Luna of the Midnight Pack. Her life is on a good path, so thereโ€™s no need to stress. When the time is right, we can tell her the truth.โ€

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

The cold wind hit my face, but I couldnโ€™t feel it. I stood, staring at Grandpa and Grandma in the night, unable to speak for a while. I never expected to overhear such a huge secret while I was out for a walk, unable to sleep.

It turned out I wasnโ€™t a true werewolf of the Shadow Pack, nor was I a child of the Carsons. I wasnโ€™t even Hayley. Then, who was I?

I covered my mouth to hold back my tears as I quietly turned back and entered the house. Once inside, I closed the door, sat on the floor, and hugged my knees, crying uncontrollably.

I didnโ€™t understand why I was so upset. Even though I had never known the love of my parents, I was content with the love of Grandpa and Grandma. Growing up as the Alphaโ€™s heir, I was privileged, respected, and adored by everyone around me. I had always felt so happy in their care.

But now, I found out that everything I knew was a lie. That realization made me even more heartbroken.

I didnโ€™t know how long I stayed there. But soon, I heard a knock on the door. โ€œHayz, are you alright?โ€ Grandmaโ€™s voice came through, full of concern.

My body froze, and I quickly wiped my tears, took a deep breath, and replied, โ€œIโ€™m fine, Grandma.โ€ My voice cracked, and Grandma immediately noticed something was wrong.

She opened the door and turned on the light. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Why are you crying?โ€

Looking at her kind face, I stepped forward, reaching out for a hug. โ€œGrandmaโ€ฆโ€

Grandma patted my back, thinking I had just had a bad dream. โ€œItโ€™s okay. Did you have a nightmare?โ€

I didnโ€™t say anything, just clung to her. โ€œItโ€™s okay, sweetie. It was just a dream. Weโ€™re here,โ€ she soothed.

I couldnโ€™t stop my tears. I hugged her tightly and asked, โ€œGrandma, will you and Grandpa always be there for me?โ€

Grandma smiled at my childlike question. โ€œOf course, no matter how old you get, youโ€™ll always be our precious granddaughter. Weโ€™ll always be with you. Donโ€™t worry and have a good sleep. Everything will be fine tomorrow.โ€

I pulled away and wiped my face. โ€œWill everything be okay tomorrow?โ€

โ€œOf course, Hayz. Now get some sleep. Tomorrow, Iโ€™ll make your favorite lovary pasta and a brownie cake for you.โ€

I grinned and raised my hand. โ€œMake it two.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Grandma indulgently patted my head. โ€œNow, can you go to bed?โ€

I coquettishly pulled her arm. โ€œNo, Grandma. I want to sleep with you tonight.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re all grown up now and still want to sleep with me?โ€

โ€œGrandmaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, alright. Iโ€™ll sleep with you.โ€

I climbed into bed with Grandma and tried to sleep, but my mind was full of heavy thoughts, and I couldnโ€™t drift off.

Over the next few days, I acted like nothing had changed, spending time with Grandpa and Grandma as usual. About a week later, while dealing with pack matters, I got a call from Benjamin.
