Chapter 384: Doesnโt That Seem Unfair to Her?
Bill gently patted Dorothyโs shoulder as they both stared into the night. After a long pause, he spoke. โLetโs wait another two years. Once Hayz is married, we can tell her then.โ
โEven though sheโs not our biological granddaughter, weโve treated her as our own for all these years. Honestly, every time I tell her sheโs our sonโs daughter, I feel guilty.โ
Tears fell from Dorothyโs eyes. โI wish she was truly our sonโs child, but it wasnโt meant to be. Sheโs been with us for so long, helping heal the pain of losing him, and sheโs managed the Shadow Pack so well.โ
โBut she has her parents. Will they try to find her? Weโve kept her here all these yearsโdoesnโt that seem unfair to her?โ
โIโve thought about that too,โ Bill replied, handing Dorothy a tissue to wipe her tears. โHayz has always been smart, with excellent leadership skills, and her wolf is rare and strong. Her biological parents must be from a powerful pack, so they could find her if they wanted. But for some reason, they havenโt.โ
โDonโt worry, though. Sheโs the Alpha of our Shadow Pack and will be Luna of the Midnight Pack. Her life is on a good path, so thereโs no need to stress. When the time is right, we can tell her the truth.โ
Hayleyโs POV:
The cold wind hit my face, but I couldnโt feel it. I stood, staring at Grandpa and Grandma in the night, unable to speak for a while. I never expected to overhear such a huge secret while I was out for a walk, unable to sleep.
It turned out I wasnโt a true werewolf of the Shadow Pack, nor was I a child of the Carsons. I wasnโt even Hayley. Then, who was I?
I covered my mouth to hold back my tears as I quietly turned back and entered the house. Once inside, I closed the door, sat on the floor, and hugged my knees, crying uncontrollably.
I didnโt understand why I was so upset. Even though I had never known the love of my parents, I was content with the love of Grandpa and Grandma. Growing up as the Alphaโs heir, I was privileged, respected, and adored by everyone around me. I had always felt so happy in their care.
But now, I found out that everything I knew was a lie. That realization made me even more heartbroken.
I didnโt know how long I stayed there. But soon, I heard a knock on the door. โHayz, are you alright?โ Grandmaโs voice came through, full of concern.
My body froze, and I quickly wiped my tears, took a deep breath, and replied, โIโm fine, Grandma.โ My voice cracked, and Grandma immediately noticed something was wrong.
She opened the door and turned on the light. โWhatโs wrong? Why are you crying?โ
Looking at her kind face, I stepped forward, reaching out for a hug. โGrandmaโฆโ
Grandma patted my back, thinking I had just had a bad dream. โItโs okay. Did you have a nightmare?โ
I didnโt say anything, just clung to her. โItโs okay, sweetie. It was just a dream. Weโre here,โ she soothed.
I couldnโt stop my tears. I hugged her tightly and asked, โGrandma, will you and Grandpa always be there for me?โ
Grandma smiled at my childlike question. โOf course, no matter how old you get, youโll always be our precious granddaughter. Weโll always be with you. Donโt worry and have a good sleep. Everything will be fine tomorrow.โ
I pulled away and wiped my face. โWill everything be okay tomorrow?โ
โOf course, Hayz. Now get some sleep. Tomorrow, Iโll make your favorite lovary pasta and a brownie cake for you.โ
I grinned and raised my hand. โMake it two.โ
โOkay.โ Grandma indulgently patted my head. โNow, can you go to bed?โ
I coquettishly pulled her arm. โNo, Grandma. I want to sleep with you tonight.โ
โYouโre all grown up now and still want to sleep with me?โ
โGrandmaโฆโ
โAlright, alright. Iโll sleep with you.โ
I climbed into bed with Grandma and tried to sleep, but my mind was full of heavy thoughts, and I couldnโt drift off.
Over the next few days, I acted like nothing had changed, spending time with Grandpa and Grandma as usual. About a week later, while dealing with pack matters, I got a call from Benjamin.
