Chapter 329: A Misunderstanding
Madelineโs POV:
After speaking, I didnโt linger. I simply opened the car door and stepped out. However, the next second, my eyes landed on Hayley in the distance, and a sense of satisfaction filled my heart. In fact, I had already spotted Hayley earlier. Everything I did was intentional. I refuse to believe that, after seeing this, Hayley wouldnโt have any thoughts about it. I watched as Hayley, without hesitation, turned and walked away in the opposite direction. It seems sheโs definitely misunderstood. My plan worked. Feeling pleased with myself, I left.
Benjaminโs POV:
I waited for a long time. I waited until almost all the students at the school gate had gone home, yet Hayley still hadnโt shown up. So, I gave her a call. โThe number you dialed is currently switched offโฆโ I frowned, an uneasy feeling stirring in my chest. I decided to keep waiting at the school gate. It wasnโt until night fell that I finally called home. Gloria answered and told me that Hayley had already returned earlier. What was going on? With countless questions swirling in my mind, I hurried home. Knock, knockโฆ I knocked several times on Hayleyโs door, but there was no response. I quickly said, โI know youโre inside. Can you open the door? I need to talk to you.โ The only response I got was silence. I felt a pang of sadness, and even my wolf, Lawrence, seemed hurt by her rejection. I knocked again, but before I could say anything further, the door suddenly swung open, revealing Hayleyโs expressionless face.
โWhat is it?โ Her tone was cold. I immediately noticed that she wasnโt in a good mood, so I asked with concern, โAre you feeling upset?โ
โNo,โ she replied flatly, her tone calm but devoid of emotion. I asked again, โWhy didnโt you wait for me after school? I was at the school gate the entire time.โ
โI forgot you were coming to pick me up, so I just went home on my own.โ
After saying that, she looked up at me and said, โIโm really tired and want to sleep now. If you donโt have anything else to say, Iโm going to close the door.โ Before I could respond, she shut the door with a decisive bang. I stood there, sensing her unhappiness, and it hurt me deeply. But I still couldnโt figure out why her attitude toward me had suddenly grown so cold. As the housekeeper, Gloria, happened to pass by, she looked at me and said, โAlpha, young ladies need to be comforted. Ms. Carson is likely upset about something. Be patient with her and try to cheer her up. Iโm sure sheโll come around.โ But I was still confused. โWhat should I do to cheer her up?โ I asked. Gloria chuckled. โAlpha, just do something that Ms. Carson likes. It might work wonders!โ Something she likes? I found myself in a dilemma. Because I realized that I didnโt seem to know Hayley very well. I didnโt even know what she liked or disliked.
The next morning, as I came downstairs, I asked Gloria, โHas Hayley gotten up yet? Please go call her.โ Gloria quickly replied, โMs. Carson left early this morning. She said she had to attend an event at school. She barely even touched her breakfast.โ Sheโs already gone? Does that mean her mood still hasnโt improved? Orโฆ is she avoiding me? Could it be that sheโs found her destined mate and doesnโt want to interact with me anymore? Countless thoughts flooded my mind.
Hayleyโs POV:
To avoid Benjamin, I skipped breakfast and headed straight to school. My wolf, Hera, was displeased with this decision, but I told her to be quiet and focused on my book. Yet no matter how hard I tried, I couldnโt take in a single word. From last night until now, my mind had been consumed by the image of what I had seen yesterday. Did Benjamin really betray me? He knows how much I despise that b*tch Madeline, so why would he still associate with her? As I was lost in thought, Belle suddenly walked over to meโฆ
