Chapter 310: The First Day

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Tanner suddenly asking Grandpa and Grandma about me was probably just a coincidence. Thatโ€™s what I thought, so I didnโ€™t dwell on it. Before I knew it, school was starting, and Grandpa and Grandma had returned to the Shadow Pack. The house, once lively, suddenly felt much emptier.

Early in the morning, Benjamin was already waiting downstairs for me. Hera, picking up his scent, eagerly urged me to head down. I turned to Lista and complained, โ€œLista, itโ€™s the first day of school, why didnโ€™t you wake me up? Iโ€™m going to be late!โ€ Lista looked innocent, said nothing, and simply glanced over at Benjamin.

Benjamin smiled and explained, โ€œI wanted you to get some extra sleep, so I told Lista not to wake you.โ€ I playfully glared at him and said, โ€œAh! Itโ€™s the first day of school, I canโ€™t be late!โ€ Benjamin reached out and took my hand. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, you wonโ€™t be late. Letโ€™s go, Iโ€™ll take you to school.โ€

His confidence left me no choice but to trust him. I quickly opened the car door and got in. Benjamin, sitting in the driverโ€™s seat, started the car and drove off. His driving was smooth and steady. While eating my breakfast, I quietly handled some Shadow Pack matters on my phone.

Thankfully, with five minutes to spare before class, the car came to a smooth stop in front of the school. I let out a sigh of relief, waved at Benjamin, and said, โ€œIโ€™m heading to class now. Have a good day at work, bye!โ€ To my surprise, the car door didnโ€™t open. โ€œBenjamin, why did you lock the door?โ€

Benjamin looked at me with a meaningful expression and asked, โ€œArenโ€™t we technically engaged now?โ€ I glanced at the diamond ring on my finger and nodded. He said, โ€œWell, now that weโ€™re engaged, shouldnโ€™t we say goodbye properly? Hmm?โ€ I blinked at him, looking serious, and asked, โ€œHow exactly are we supposed to say goodbye? Benjamin, can you just be direct? Iโ€™m about to be late!โ€

Benjamin sighed in exasperation and motioned for me to come closer. โ€œCome here, be good.โ€ I leaned in, and without any hesitation, Benjamin kissed my forehead. โ€œThatโ€™s it, got it?โ€ My face instantly flushed. So that was what he meant.

โ€œHayley, quick! Give him a deep kiss!โ€ Pressed against Benjamin, Hera could no longer contain her excitement and kept urging me. I finally couldnโ€™t help it and kissed Benjamin on the lip. But as soon as I felt him trying to deepen the kiss, I quickly pulled back. Benjamin was stunned.

โ€œIโ€™m going to be late! What are you waiting for? Open the door!โ€ I said, raising an eyebrow and grinning at him. Only then did Benjamin let me go, reminding me, โ€œMake sure to come out early after school. Iโ€™ll be waiting for you here.โ€ I turned my back to him, saying nothing, just waving my hand before quickly walking away.

When I reached the Leqina class, the class was quiet. Most of my classmates were already seated, focused on studying. I found an empty seat and sat down. I looked around, but I couldnโ€™t spot Christine anywhere. A bad feeling started to creep into my mind. Why had Christine come to school?

As I was lost in thought, Henry walked over and placed a freshly squeezed juice on my desk. โ€œBoss, have some juice.โ€ I casually asked, โ€œHave you seen Christine? Why hasnโ€™t she come to school?โ€ Henry quickly responded, โ€œBoss, you didnโ€™t know? Christine dropped out. She handled the paperwork before school started. I heard her familyโ€™s moving abroadโ€”theyโ€™re leaving in the next couple of days.โ€

โ€œWhat? Theyโ€™re immigrating?!โ€ I was so shocked that I stood up from my seat. Midnight Pack was already the strongest pack where we wolves could live. Why would she and her family suddenly immigrate? After taking a moment to calm down, I grabbed my phone and called Christine.
