Alpha Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 212: What Are You Talking About?

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Finished. I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm. I replied, โ€œReally? What exactly feels similar to you?โ€

Benjamin stayed silent for a long time before responding, โ€œYou two are different people. I canโ€™t believe I ever thought of connecting the two of you.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s nothing; I guess I was just overthinking.โ€

I sighed in relief and said, โ€œSince you canโ€™t focus well, letโ€™s just study another day.โ€

Benjamin didnโ€™t refuse the suggestion. He simply sent an OK gesture and logged off.

I stared at the dimmed profile picture and couldnโ€™t help but picture Benjamin in his room, the corners of his lips curving into a charming smile.

The next day, Christopher had already been waiting downstairs for a while. When he saw I hadnโ€™t come down yet, he couldnโ€™t help but urge, โ€œHayley, what are you doing? Hurry up, weโ€™re going to be late!โ€

I rushed down the stairs. Last night, I hadnโ€™t slept well and only fell asleep late at night, which was why I woke up so late today.

โ€œIโ€™m coming! Iโ€™m coming!โ€

I opened the car door and jumped in. Christopher started the car, and we drove off.

It seemed like Christopher was in a good mood today. He kept humming his new song.

โ€œHayley,โ€ Christopher suddenly called my name. I looked up and hummed a reply. โ€œWhatโ€™s up?โ€

He studied my face for a moment and asked, โ€œIs there something going on between you and Ben?โ€

I blinked, confused by his question. Still, I instinctively denied it. โ€œWhat do you mean? Thereโ€™s nothing going on.โ€

Thinking I didnโ€™t understand, he asked again, โ€œHayley, be honest. Do you like Ben?โ€

I coughed lightly, trying to hide my true feelings, then turned my gaze toward the window and replied, โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€

Christopher clearly didnโ€™t believe me. He pressed, โ€œReally? Then why do I feel like thereโ€™s something off between you two? For example, Ben actually invited you to one of our brotherhood gatherings.โ€

โ€œOr when youโ€™re with him, heโ€™s not giving off that cold, distant alpha energy. It seems to soften around you.โ€

โ€œWhat are you thinking? Thereโ€™s nothing wrong! Stop overthinking it. You should focus on your new song: 1/3 15:37 Sat, Jan 4 GG.โ€

Since I was getting upset, he didnโ€™t push the topic any further.

After a while, he started talking about his new song again.

โ€œMy new song is written by Harmony, from lyrics to music. Itโ€™s amazing. If it werenโ€™t for Harmony, this song wouldnโ€™t have become such a hit.โ€

I listened as he praised Harmony, nodding along naturally.

โ€œItโ€™s pretty good.โ€

He sighed and said, โ€œActually, I want to thank Harmony in person, but Iโ€™ve never been able to reach her. Even Siete hasnโ€™t been able to set up a meeting.โ€

I stayed silent. Noticing my silence, he switched the conversation back to me.

โ€œBy the way, Hayley, if you really like Ben, youโ€™d better make a move soon. After all, Ben is the Alpha. Even if heโ€™s willing to accept a chosen mate, there are so many women competing for him.โ€

โ€œEven though youโ€™re just an Omega and not particularly beautiful, Iโ€™ve gotten to know you over time. Youโ€™re a good person, and you have some talent.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve gotten used to being around you. If Ben accepts you as the Luna of our pack, I could accept that too.โ€

I felt a little uncomfortable hearing all of his praise.

โ€œYou should focus on your own problems instead of worrying about mine,โ€ I said, opening the car door and getting out.

As I walked away, I still heard Christopher muttering to himself, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with me? Iโ€™m fine, except I havenโ€™t found my destined mate.โ€

Christopherโ€™s POV:

I felt uneasy. Was Hayley avoiding the topic of her and Ben because she thought I was still single and lacked relationship experience?

Even though I didnโ€™t have a strict rule about finding my destined mate, I did have high standards for choosing a mate. Thatโ€™s why I had stayed single all this time.

I scoffed at Hayleyโ€™s avoidance but didnโ€™t take it seriously.

Started the car, I drove off. But just then, my phone rang. I reached out to grab it from the passenger seat, but in my haste, it fell under theโ€ฆ

I quickly bent down to pick it up when I heard a loudโ€ฆ

Thankfully, I reacted fast, calling on my wolf instincts to hit the brakes just in time. But my body lurched forward, and due to the momentum, my head slammed into the windshield!

I saw someone lying on the road, and panic set in. I quickly got out of the car and asked, โ€œAre you okay? Are you hurt?โ€

But when I saw who it was, I froze in shock.
