Chapter 179: A Misunderstanding
Hayleyโs POV:
โBen, youโre back?โ Henry said, waving.
Benjamin nodded briefly, but his gaze remained fixed on me with a hint of displeasure. โHayley, where have you been? Why are you back so late?โ
Henry grinned sheepishly. โNothing much. We just went for a stroll.โ
Clearly, Henry didnโt want Benjamin to know what heโd been up to. I chose not to call him out and waved casually. โIโm heading upstairs.โ
Henry waved back with a grin. โGood night, Boss!โ
Benjaminโs POV:
For some reason, seeing Hayley and Henry chatting so happily together left me irritated. Even my wolf, Lawrence, grew restless.
After watching Hayley head upstairs, I casually asked Henry, โSince when did you two get so close?โ
โDidnโt you used to say she was just a plain-looking Omega, and that you couldnโt stand the sight of her?โ
Henry replied with a chuckle. โDid I? Nah, weโve always been on good terms. That was just a misunderstanding back then.โ
His response caught me off guard. If there was one thing I knew about Henry, it was that he was stubborn to the core. If he didnโt like someone, he would find a hundredโno, a thousandโreasons to dislike them. But on the flip side, if he considered someone a true friend, he would treat them with unwavering loyalty.
Soโฆ did that mean he was interested in Hayley? But that didnโt make sense. Like me, he had always been firm on waiting for his destined mate.
I shook the thought from my mind. โItโs fine as long as itโs all cleared up. Itโs getting late. You should get some rest.โ I waved him off casually, ready to leave.
โAlright. Good night, Ben.โ
I nodded and headed upstairs.
Chapter 179: A Misunderstanding (Continued)
Early the next morning, Henry was already knocking on my door before I was fully awake. Frustrated, I nearly let Hera take control just so she could give him a good beating.
โHenry, what are you doing banging on my door this early in the morning?!โ
I forced down my annoyance and opened the door.
Henry shoved a pair of earbuds into my hand. โBoss, you should start your morning with some French listening practice. Itโs a great way to learn.โ
I shot him a glare. โYou must be out of your mind.โ
Henry just chuckled. โBoss, Iโm just sharing a useful learning method I discovered.โ
โAnd itโs not like I wasted much of your timeโI only woke you up ten minutes earlier than usual.โ
I was convinced Henry had lost it. โDonโt wake me up again. I just want ten more minutes of sleep.โ
But, of course, he had to push it further. โBoss, youโre a capable person, but I outrank you. I think you should respect my advice.โ
I didnโt even bother responding. I shoved him out the door and slammed it shut with a loud bang.
Benjaminโs POV:
โMorning, Ben!โ Henry greeted me cheerfully, and I suddenly realized he had just come out of Hayleyโs room. A wave of unexplainable jealousy surged in my chest.
I held back my anger and asked, โWhat are you doing here?โ
Henry replied calmly, โNothing. I just came to wake Hayley up.โ
I felt that Henryโs attitude toward Hayley was unusually warm, but I had no grounds to comment on it.
โGo down for breakfast. We have school later,โ I said, walking past him with displeasure.
Halfway through breakfast, Hayley finally came down from the second floor, looking exhausted. As she pulled out a chair, she said to Henry, โStop waking me up so early in the morning from now on.โ
Henry hummed in response. โGot it, Boss.โ
To my surprise, he then respectfully handed her a glass of milk. โBoss, drink more milk. Itโs good for protein intake.โ
I was shocked that Henry could indulge Hayley to this extent, showing no regard for rank or status. Hayley casually accepted it and took a sip.
Chapter 179: A Misunderstanding (Continued)
10:59 Sat, Jan 4G.
I watched every part of their interaction, committing it all to memory.
Suppressing my growing frustration, I set down my utensils and told Hayley, โI was busy yesterday. Iโll take you to school today.โ
But before I could finish, Henry cut in. โThereโs no need for that, Ben. Boss can just go to school with me, so you donโt have to trouble yourself.โ
โYouโve got the Southwell Group and the pack to manage. Youโre already swamped.โ
Hayley chimed in. โYeah, you donโt need to take me to school. I can go with Henry.โ
Her words made Lawrence grow restless, and I couldnโt stop myself from glaring at the two of them.
