Chapter 159: Sudden Change
Hayleyโs POV:
Henry cleared his throat, looking a bit embarrassed.
โYou donโt have to say it if you donโt want to. I donโt have time to waste on pointless chatter,โ I said bluntly, not sparing him a shred of dignity.
Henry panicked. โNo, Boss! I have something important to say!โ
I glanced up at him. Henry seemed to summon all his courage before asking, โBoss, how can I improve my grades?โ
Instinctively, I reached out and touched his forehead. โYou donโt have a fever. Why are you acting so strange today?โ
Henryโs face turned awkward, but he pressed on. โYour grades are amazing. You must have some good study techniques. Would you mind teaching me?โ
I put down my textbook, surprised by his sudden change of attitude.
โWhy the sudden interest in studying? As the younger brother of the Alpha of the Midnight Pack, youโre practically destined for success without lifting a finger. Why make life hard for yourself? Werenโt you doing just fine before?โ
Henryโs expression grew serious. โThatโs what I used to think, too. Our family leads the Midnight Pack, and our strength is unparalleled. I figured I could slack off without worrying about my future.โ
โBut ever since the Southwell Groupโs incident, Iโve realized everyone else in the family has been able to step up and help. Iโm the only one whoโs completely useless.โ
โAs a Beta werewolf, my combat abilities are barely on par with some of the higher-ranked warriors. How am I supposed to protect the Midnight Pack in the future?โ
โThatโs why I want to learn as much as I can and become useful.โ
He sounded sincere. I paused, giving Henry a long, thoughtful look before asking, โHow have your grades been so far?โ
At the mention of this, Henry instantly became flustered.
โWell, since I started school, Iโve never really paid attention in class. During exams, I just scribble down whatever I can, but I spend most of the time sleeping. So, my grades are terrible.โ
โItโs fine,โ I said, keeping my tone neutral. โBut tell me, whatโs your goal? How much do you want to improve?โ
Henry fidgeted awkwardly. โI want to improve enough to apply to an Ivy League school.โ
I hesitated. โThatโs a pretty tall order, considering your current performance.โ
โI came to you!โ Henry looked at me expectantly. โYouโre a genius, arenโt you?โ
I shrugged. โAnd how does that concern you?โ
Henry leaned in eagerly. โBenjamin always says the company you keep matters. For example, if you work with someone who earns ten million dollars a year, youโll likely earn at least a million. If youโre with someone who makes a million, you can probably make a hundred thousand. Using that logic, if I get guidance from a genius like you, learning should be a breeze!โ
I finally understood what he was getting at. โSo, youโre asking me to tutor you?โ
Henry nodded enthusiastically, practically fawning. โYouโre my Boss! Iโm your loyal sidekickโitโs only natural for you to guide me.โ
I declined immediately. โI donโt think I canโฆโ
Henry grew anxious. โBoss, what do you mean? Are you worried I wonโt listen?โ
โDonโt worry! As long as youโre willing to help me, Iโll do whatever you say!โ
โMaybe I can even teach you some werewolf combat techniques.โ
โSure, my grades arenโt great, but as a Beta werewolf, my fighting skills are better than yours as an Omega.โ
I couldnโt help but laugh at that. An Alpha like me needing combat lessons from a Beta? Of course, he had no idea about my true identity, so I kept quiet.
Henryโs determination was admirable, though. Maybe tutoring him wouldnโt be such a bad idea after all.
After thinking it over, I asked, โAre you serious about this?โ
Henry nodded without hesitation. โAbsolutely!โ
I maintained a stern tone. โAlright, Iโll help you studyโbut on one condition.โ
