Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 13: A Little More Wary of Him
Hayleyโs POV
Our school had a walk-in class system, so Iโd picked courses that genuinely interested me. Classmates in each class came from various ranks, including Betas and Omegas. Since most of them didnโt know me, even the Betas didnโt make a fuss about my Omega status. Of course, this was partly because Iโd already dealt firmly with Annalise and her friends. Iโd been enjoying my classes a lot.
However, I didnโt expect my good mood to be interrupted so soon. For some reason, Henry ended up in all the same classes as me this semester. No matter where I went, he seemed to follow me around like a persistent shadow, which was incredibly frustrating.
In calculus class, as soon as I took my seat, Henry came in and plopped down right next to me. Immediately, I heard the girls around us exclaiming excitedly.
โWow, isnโt this Henry, the youngest heir of the Alpha of our Midnight Pack?โ
โThatโs right! Not only is he of high status, but heโs also good-looking!โ
Even Eloise Scott, the cheerleader and campus star, was gazing at him with starry eyes. I gave him a disdainful glance and decided not to pay him any more attention. He had nothing good but appearance. But he disturbed me.
โHayley, are you pretending not to know me?โ Henry deliberately called out loudly with a smirk. I fidgeted with my pen and paper, feeling annoyed.
โHey, Hayley! Are you mute?โ He seemed irritated that I wasnโt responding.
From then on, I couldnโt catch a break.
โHey, can you even understand what the teacher is saying?โ
โHayley, speak to me!โ
No matter how he provoked me, I kept ignoring him, which only seemed to make him angrier.
Until, in tennis class, the tennis coach announced, โThe new tennis tournament is open for registration. Besides the school teamโs professional players, anyone with private coaching can also join the team.โ
Upon hearing that, Henry immediately asked me, โHayley, how good are you at tennis?โ
โReally?โ Henry rolled his eyes. I knew he was up to something again. Suddenly, he loudly proclaimed, โSir, Hayley wants to join the tournament!โ
Immediately, some girls who were close to him began mocking me.
โHer? A low-ranking Omega from the remote Shadow Pack? Has she even played tennis before?โ
โExactly! This competition features top players from the whole state. She must have overestimated herself!โ
Hearing their comments, the coach tactfully asked me, โAre you sure you want to join the team? The training is intense, and our team is made up of at least Betas or higher. Are you sure you want to take part?โ
I felt their disdain. Originally, I didnโt want to join. Not because my skills were lackingโquite the opposite. I had trained with tennis professionals since childhood and had won several state championships in the Shadow Pack. As an Alpha, my physical abilities were exceptional. I hadnโt wanted to draw attention to myself, but seeing their dismissive attitudes stirred my competitive spirit.
โSure, Iโll take part!โ
Amidst their shocked and disdainful gazes, I made my decision clear. At that moment, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I stepped away from the crowd to take the call.
โAlpha, I heard youโll participate in the tennis tournament. Is that true?โ It was my Beta, Thomas.
The news had spread so quickly. I had just signed up, and now everyone knew about it. It was probably Henry who spread the news.
Thomas asked, โAlpha, why are you joining the tournament? You donโt need to rely on tennis results for a top university. Youโve already won multiple state championships. The pre-match training is tough, and youโve got awards in racing, tennis, and math.โ
I had planned to stay low-key in the Midnight Pack this year, but Henryโs actions had stirred things up. I helplessly said, โItโs hard to explain. But there is something else I want to tell you about.โ
โWhatโs it?โ Thomas asked eagerly.
โI noticed my photo in Benjaminโs study yesterday. Is he trying to find out more about me?โ Benjamin seemed more challenging to deal with than his siblings, making me a little more wary of him.
