Chapter 67
Before entering the exam hall, Miranda checked she had her admission ticket, pen, and all the necessary calculation tools. She hadn't forgotten anything.
Winter had said she planned to come dressed up to wish Miranda good luck. Miranda knew Winter had been busy with two large projects recently; there was no way Winter would wake up in time. Besides, it was highly unlikely she would dress up in such cold weather.
As predicted, Miranda didn't see Winter outside the exam hall. She wasn't disappointed. Some friendships remain strong even without constant contact. Netizens call this a "reply when you can" friendship.
The two-hour exam ended, and the examinees looked either gloomy or excited. Miranda, however, remained calm.
It was drizzling when Miranda left the exam hall. Since taxis were scarce, she decided to take the subway. She was about to leave when she heard someone call her name.
"Miranda?"
Miranda looked up and saw Tina in the corridor. "It's really you!"
Tina had previously visited Miranda but failed to persuade her to visit Hansel in the hospital. She hadn't seen Hansel since. Almost six months had passed, and as far as Tina knew, they hadn't reconciled. The breakup seemed final this time. Even Evelyn, who'd always believed they were inseparable, had begun to doubt it.
Tina often overheard Evelyn complaining at home: "Why does Hansel keep having gastric problems lately? He didn't go to the hospital so often when he was with Miranda. Tina, do you think they're really over? Has Miranda lost her mind? She needs to stop acting up! Doesn't she want to marry into this family anymore?"
Evelyn had always felt Miranda didn't deserve Hansel and had constantly wished for their breakup. But now that it had happened, Evelyn seemed unable to accept it. Tina felt the same. She hadn't supported their relationship, but she found it hard to believe Miranda had initiated the breakup.
She'd asked Calvin about the breakup. Hearing that Hansel had flaunted a new girlfriend in front of Miranda, she wasn't surprised Miranda had finally reacted. Tina was slowly becoming convinced Hansel and Miranda wouldn't reunite.
"Tina!" Miranda smiled.
Tina noticed Miranda's transparent pouch containing her admission ticket and ID card—the same one she'd seen in the library. "You're really taking the postgraduate entrance exam…"
Tina and Evelyn had assumed Miranda was just pretending to win Hansel back. Tina hadn't believed Miranda was serious.
Miranda nodded. "I've always wanted to further my studies. I missed the opportunity before due to immaturity. I hope it's not too late."
Tina scrutinized Miranda's face and frowned slightly. "You started studying after you broke up with Hansel, right?"
"Mhm."
"With so little time, I think it's…" Tina felt Miranda's chances were slim.
The number of postgraduate applicants this year was a record high, making competition fierce, especially for top institutes like Bedford College. Miranda had been out of college for several years without pursuing relevant work. She probably wouldn't score well with such short preparation.
Tina found Miranda's post-breakup dedication inspiring, but passing the exam required more than just determination. Tina remained silent, not wanting to discourage her.
