Chapter 56

Hansel burst into his bedroom and flung open the closet doors like a madman. He then rushed to Miranda’s walk-in closet.

All the designer bags, clothes, watches, and jewelry he had given her were neatly arranged. Not a single item was missing.

Hansel’s gaze fell on a cherry quartz bracelet. His breath quickened, and a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. He clearly remembered it as a birthday gift he’d brought back from abroad for Miranda during their third year together. “Cherry” sounded like “cherish.” This gift was a reminder to Miranda that she was the most cherished person in his life. Back then, she had loved the bracelet dearly and worn it constantly.

Yet, she had left even the bracelet behind, as if abandoning her love for him along with it.

Hansel sank onto the bed’s edge. He suddenly realized Miranda wasn’t throwing a tantrum; she truly meant every word she’d said. This time, she was serious about breaking up with him.

Suddenly, Martha heard a loud crash. Startled, she quickly ran upstairs. Reaching the walk-in closet’s entrance, she ran into Hansel, who stormed past her. His expression was dark and foreboding.

“Mr. Johnson…” Martha called out. She wanted to ask what had happened, but he ignored her and walked away.

Martha turned and gasped. The walk-in closet was a complete mess. The expensive jewelry cabinet was smashed, new clothes with tags still attached were strewn everywhere, and the bohemian rug was ripped to shreds.

Martha recalled having just cleaned the kitchen and disposed of a pot of spoiled soup; now she had to clear the bedroom’s wreckage. She sighed. The life of a hired help was truly tough!

The club was filled with psychedelic lights and scantily clad young people dancing to cheesy music on the stage. Hansel sat in a corner, drinking alone. He ordered a bottle of whiskey and downed large gulps. He didn’t seem to be enjoying the drink, but rather venting his frustrations.

The dim lights occasionally illuminated his face. His well-defined features were shrouded in a cold air, adding an extra layer of allure and intrigue. Women passing by were inexplicably drawn to his mysterious vibe. Some approached him, ignoring his standoffish demeanor.

“Hey, handsome. Drinking alone is boring. How about I join you?” A woman in an off-the-shoulder top leaned in, revealing her ample figure. Any normal man would have taken a second look at her cleavage.

However, Hansel shot her a cold glance. “Get lost!”

His dark, intimidating gaze scared her away instantly. She left immediately.

Having dismissed the woman, Hansel continued drinking. He quickly emptied the bottle and called for a waiter. In a daze, he spotted a familiar figure. He rushed toward her, frantically grabbing her arm from behind. “Mi…”

The woman turned angrily. Her anger, however, transformed into a sweet smile when she saw how handsome Hansel was. She pressed herself against him. “Hey, handsome. Are you looking for me?”

Hansel realized he’d mistaken her for someone else. Frowning, he withdrew his hand. Miranda would never be so forward. “I’m sorry, I mistook you for someone else.”

The woman pouted and muttered under her breath as he walked away. “Is he even a man? Why would he refuse a woman throwing herself at him?”

Hansel couldn’t stay another minute in the smoky, suffocating club. He finished his drink, grabbed his coat, and headed for the exit. Near the exit, someone called, “Hans!”
