Chapter 346: Explosion
With a deafening crash, the truck collided with the car. In just a split second, there was an explosion. Both vehicles were obliterated in the blast. Everything was reduced to ashes, not to mention dead bodies.
Diana and Caroline were dumbfounded. Neither of them had expected such a massive explosion. They had originally planned to stage an accident that would kill Claire in a car crash. But now, this overwhelming explosion had wiped out both the truck and the car. Both of them felt a pang of fear creeping in. They had initially considered a safer plan of making the truck carry them along in the back. That way, even if something went wrong, their lives wouldn’t be at risk. But now…
“Caroline, the vehicles are gone. Claire and the truck driver are both dead,” Diana stammered. She trembled and grabbed Caroline’s hand.
“Yes, I saw it. But isn’t this even better? The truck driver’s dead. No one will know we had anything to do with this,” Caroline replied. “Claire’s dead. We’ve avenged Anna. Killing two birds with one stone. Perfect.” Her grip tightened on Diana’s hand as if to reassure them both.
Diana nodded. “Yes, perfect.” But she was still in shock. She had been pampered all her life, always arrogant and unrestrained. But she had never killed anyone or been involved in anything like this before. For the first time, she had witnessed such an explosion and death firsthand. Caroline was different. She had pushed Claire off a cliff before, and this was just another round of the same business.
Caroline calmed down and urged Diana to call Frederick.
“Okay,” Diana nodded. She pulled out her phone to dial Frederick. “Frederick, something is up. It’s an explosion,” she stuttered as soon as the call was answered, unable to get the words out properly.
“What happened? What explosion?” Frederick asked. He was handling a terrorist riot. He assumed something had gone wrong at the Halfmoon Manor or with the Hawthorne family.
“Caroline and I took Claire to the hospital. She had a bellyache, and then we had an accident on the road. There was an explosion. Claire’s dead,” Diana explained in broken sentences.
Frederick managed to understand. There was a long silence on the other end of the line.
“Frederick? Are you still there?” Diana called out. But there was no response. Finally, there was the sound of a click as the line went dead.
Frederick gripped his phone tightly, his mind racing with a single thought. There was a car accident. An explosion happened, killing Claire. She was dead. His hand suddenly lost its strength, and the phone slipped from his grasp, falling to the ground.
“General Hawthorne, what happened?” Richard, who had just given orders to his subordinates, quickly approached when he saw Frederick’s stunned state.
“What? General Hawthorne, investigate what?” Richard was confused.
Frederick said, “Explosion. Car accident. Claire’s dead. Investigate it. Do it right away.”
