Chapter 866
Irene thought, "What did Jonathan just say? Send me straight to prison?"
Irene thought sheโd misheard. Her heart twisted with fear and helplessness. Crying, she pounded Jonathanโs chest. "Are you insane! You want to send me to prison? I'm your mother," Irene spat out.
"I'm turning you in. So what?" Jonathan said as he grabbed Ireneโs wrist, his voice laced with a do-or-die resolve. "Don't forget how dad died, or the poison."
Irene gritted her teeth, shocked that her own son had this kind of leverage over her.
"I raised you all these years, and now you want to send me to prison? How could you?" she shouted.
Jonathan rubbed his temples in frustration. He never wanted to send his own mother to prison.
"As long as you donโt mess with Teresa, youโll still be my mom. Iโll support you. Just live your life in peace, okay? Canโt you stop causing trouble?" he pleaded.
Irene let out a cold laugh. She thought, "So it was all because of Teresa, huh? Thatโs why Jonathan is so heartless now. He never used to treat me like this."
"Sheโs some outsider. Is she more important than your own mother? Youโd talk to me like this for an outsider?" Irene shouted.
"She's not an outsider," Jonathan shot back.
The next thing Jonathan said left Irene stunned.
"In my heart, sheโll always be my wife," he said firmly.
Irene was frozen in shock. She stammered in disbelief, "Wait, are you saying you want to get back together with Teresa? You want to remarry her?"
Jonathan fell silent, frowning. Seeing this, Irene pressed him, "Have you lost your mind? You donโt have to be so soft. She doesnโt even love you. Why still think of her? Do you really want to remarry her?"
"Yes, I do. Ever since the divorce, the thought of getting back together with her has never left my mind," Jonathan replied.
Irene was stunned all over again. She thought, "Has Jonathan gone crazy like Teresa? Did Teresa infect him with her madness? Has Jonathan lost his mind because of her?"
She snapped back to reality and said, "Whatโs so special about her? Look at all those women Iโve introduced to you. Arenโt they all better than Teresa? Thereโs no need to remarry her for the kid."
"Itโs not because of the kid," Jonathan said, enunciating every word. "Whether we have a child or not, I want to remarry her. Only if Iโm with her again will I feel at peace."
That was the truth for Jonathan. She had carried his child without telling him, hiding it for three long years. She might not have loved him, and she constantly challenged him at every turn. But those didnโt matter to him.
Though sometimes he wanted to walk away in anger, seeing their wedding photos or thinking about her struggle raising their child alone made him feel sympathy he couldnโt ignore.
All he wanted was to remarry her. Only then would he feel at peace.
Irene shook her head in disappointment and added, "Youโre the CEO now. You need a woman who brings business value, who helps you make money. If you remarry her, sheโs the one marrying way up."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow and protested, "When Teresa married me, I wasnโt as rich as she was. Her car alone cost millions. Why didnโt you say I was the one marrying up back then?"
Irene was at a loss for words. Then she snapped back angrily, "She mustโve known youโd get rich someday!"
"Oh? A fortune teller now? When did she get so good at predicting Iโd start a company? And if she saw that, why did she divorce me and keep our child a secret?" Jonathan retorted.
Irene was speechless again. She wanted to retort, questioning what Teresa was scheming, why she stayed silent when she had the baby, only to bring it up now.
But wary of Jonathan, Irene could only grit her teeth and say, "All I can tell you is that things arenโt the same as before."
"Yeah, things have changed," Jonathan thought to himself.
Jonathan turned and said calmly, "If I relied on family money, a business marriage might make sense. But I built everything myself. The life you enjoy is from my work. Marriage is my choice. I get to decide, not you."
Irene stared at Jonathanโs tall back, took a deep breath, and raised her hand as she added, "Alright, you win. I wonโt say anything else."
Jonathan didnโt want to waste another word on her. He shot her a look and said, "Letโs go. Weโre heading to the hospital. Youโre going to apologize to Teresa."
When they got to the hospital, the doctor told Jonathan that Teresaโs morning sickness was severe. She couldnโt keep anything down, but she still needed to try to eat.
Worry flickered in Jonathanโs eyes. He knew Teresa was still haunted by what happened. Ever since Irene tried to take the baby, sheโd been living in fear.
Jonathan turned, his dark, deep eyes fixed on Irene. "Because you keep stressing her out, she could go into premature labor at any moment. Would you be satisfied if you end up losing your own grandchild?" he spat out.
Irene froze and replied, "I never meant to hurt the baby."
"Jonathan," someone called out. Benny walked over from the end of the hallway, holding a stack of documents in his hand. He handed two copies of the document to Jonathan.
"Hereโs the agreement you asked me to draft. Take a look, and if everythingโs fine, just have your mom sign it," Benny said.
Jonathan handed the agreement to Irene and told her to take a look. The agreement read as follows: [1. Without Jonathanโs permission, Irene is not allowed to meet with Teresa alone for any reason in private.] [2. Without Teresaโs permission, Irene is not allowed to visit Michael, nor take the child away herself or through anyone else. This also applies to Teresaโs unborn child.] [3. Whether in public or private, Irene is not allowed to engage in any form of verbal abuse, physical assault, or malicious slander against Teresa.] [If Irene violates any of these three conditions, Teresa has the right to hold Irene legally accountable, and Irene must pay Teresa at least millions in compensation and emotional damages.]
After reading the agreement, Ireneโs eyes went wide as saucers when she saw the millions listed there. "No way. Thatโs impossible," she shouted.
Jonathan knew how much of a penny-pincher Irene was. Even 30 million dollars would be enough to make her lose her mind, let alone millions.
Jonathan shot her a look and ordered, "Sign it. Now."
Benny handed the pen over to Irene. Irene clenched her fists and protested, "Iโm not signing. I donโt have that kind of money, and even if I did, thereโs no way Iโd give it to Teresa."
Benny said, "Irene, as long as you stick to these three promises, you wonโt have to pay Teresa a single cent. Itโs not that hard, is it?"

Irene kept her fists clenched and added, "Then Iโm still not signing. Why should I be banned from seeing my own grandson for the rest of my life?"
