Chapter 862
โDonโt call me,โ Jonathan snapped, ignoring Irene and walking straight over to Teresa.
He popped open a big umbrella, shielding Teresa and Michael from the rain as he made sure they got into the car first.
He stood outside, getting drenched while his whole body was still out in the rain. Then he told the driver to crank the heat up as high as it would go.
โDrive them to the hospital. Now,โ he ordered.
โYes, Mr. Lynn,โ the driver replied.
Then Jonathan turned to Teresa and said, โWait for me. Iโll be there as soon as I can.โ
When Teresa nodded, Jonathan reached over and gently ruffled Michaelโs hair. Then he added, โMike, take good care of your mom, okay?โ
Then Jonathan turned and went back inside. From within the house, Ireneโs sobs grew even louder. When she saw him return, she tried to defend herself through her tears once more.
โI swear I meant no harm. Heidi said to take Mike before he got too old. I was scared Teresa might be a bad influence. Sheโs unstable and I thought she could hurt Mike,โ Irene cried.
โAre you done?โ Jonathan asked coldly, his eyes fixed on Irene. He stared at her, his face expressionless.
Irene was at a loss for words, and then Jonathan continued, โAnswer me. Did you have anything to do with Teresaโs collapsing and being hospitalized?โ
โNo, how could you suspect me of that? I was the one who took her to the hospital. I saved her life,โ Irene protested.
โIโm going to ask you one last time,โ Jonathan snapped, cutting Irene off impatiently.
โDid you have anything to do with Teresa passing out or not?โ he demanded.
Irene gritted her teeth, refusing to admit anything. She shook her head and added, โIt has nothing to do with me.โ
Jonathanโs heart hit rock bottom. He loomed over her, eyes cold as he spat out, โYou used money to humiliate and threaten her, trying to take her child. Donโt pretend you donโt know what Iโm talking about.โ
Irene managed to get to her feet, glaring up at Jonathan. โWho told you that? Was it Teresa running to you with complaints again?โ she pressed.
โShe never told me. Not once,โ Jonathan said, spitting out each word. โFrom the day we got married to the day we divorced, and even now, sheโs never breathed a word to me about all the crap you pulled.โ
Irene was stunned. โNo way. I donโt believe it,โ she exclaimed.
Irene couldnโt wrap her head around it. Teresa hadnโt lied to her. Teresa had never once tattled on her to Jonathan, not even once.
Jonathan withdrew his gaze and ordered coldly, โSit here and think about everything youโve done to her. Every sneaky, underhanded thing youโve plotted behind her back. Iโll deal with you tomorrow."
With that, he turned away coldly and prepared to leave. Irene couldnโt help but shout, โI did all of this for your own good.โ
Jonathan stopped in his tracks. Hearing Irene repeat that it was all for his own good, he turned around. His eyes blazed with fury and disappointment.
โIf you cared about me, you wouldnโt have gone behind my back and bullied a woman who was carrying my child while I was away,โ Jonathan snapped.
Irene fell silent again, tears blurring her weathered face. Only then did she notice that Jonathanโs eyes were red, filled with pain.
โYou always told me to be upright. Is this what you call being upright? Bullying a pregnant woman? If Dad were alive, would he condone you despite the person youโve become?โ Jonathan said slowly.
โJonathan,โ Irene cried out, โplease donโt hate me.โ
But Jonathan had already turned away, his back straight and resolute as he walked out the door. Irene collapsed to the floor, her body drained of strength.
