Chapter 841
Markโs face went pale. He realized the man in front of him was not someone to mess with. Cold sweat streamed down Markโs gleaming bald head, running in rivulets.
โWeโve never had any bad blood between us. Why must you make things so difficult for me?โ Mark pleaded.
โIโm making things difficult for you?โ Jonathan echoed. He leaned back in his chair, eyes locked on the scammer in front of him.
โWerenโt you the one who claimed to know who my destined soulmate is? My birth date is right here. Why donโt you read it for me again?โ Jonathan spat out.
Mark understood what Jonathan was after and immediately confessed, โA young lady came to me and paid me 15 thousand upfront to do something for her.โ
Jonathan flipped his phone over and asked, โWhat did she want you to do? Whatโs her name?โ
Mark shook his head and explained, โShe only gave her last name, Yalena. She said Mrs. Lynn would come for a fortune reading and ask me to tell her that you and Yalena are destined to be together. I did as she asked.โ
Jonathan flipped his phone over again and continued, โSo all that stuff about a destined soulmate was made up?โ
Mark said with a nod, โShe told me to fake it. I was doing what I got paid for.โ
Jonathan scoffed. Heโd already recorded every word Mark said.
Mark pleaded, โI swear I wonโt do it again. Just cut me some slack, okay?โ
โYou tried to scam me. Do you think Iโd just let you off the hook?โ Jonathan shot back.
Mark panicked and blurted out, โI can read fortunes! Let me do a reading for you. My familyโs been doing this for generations. Weโre always spot on.โ
Jonathan was silent for a couple of seconds, then stood up. โSave it. I donโt buy any of that.โ
He didnโt want anyone reading his fortune or deciding who he should be with. He didnโt care whether the prediction was right or wrong. He just wanted to follow his own heart, even if that meant being with someone he was doomed to be with. Heโd accept it.
After Jonathan left, he told Bobby to call the police and have the scammer arrested. He didnโt want him hurting any more innocent people.
When he returned to the Lynn family, he handed all the evidence to Irene, letting her see for herself. After hearing the recording, her expression changed instantly.
โYou mean that fortune-teller was a fraud? Yalena hired a scammer on purpose?โ she exclaimed.
โExactly. Do you still think Yalena is some kind of saint?โ Jonathan shot back.
Irene pressed her lips together, then retorted, โJust because of this one thing, you canโt say Yalena is wrong. Youโve been ignoring her all this time. What else could she do? She had no other choice.โ
Jonathan stared at Irene, his disappointment growing. โWhy do you trust Yalena so much? And why would you use her as a pawn against Teresa?โ
Ireneโs face changed again. She said anxiously, โWho told you that? Was it Teresa? Did she go running to you to complain againstโฆโ
โShe didnโt say a word to me. I figured it out myself. Is that so hard to believe?โ Jonathan shot back.
Irene fell silent. The next second, she changed the subject, wiping her tears. โLetโs not talk about this anymore. Mom made ravioli today. Let me get you some. You didnโt eat yesterday, so have some today,โ she said.
With that, she went to the kitchen and soon came back with two plates of ravioli. Jonathan stared at the steaming ravioli, his emotions a tangled mess.
โI donโt get it. I give you money to spend so you can enjoy your retirement, but instead, you keep making things difficult for me behind my back. Why are you so set on going after Teresa?โ he asked.
