Chapter 827
Teresa had just gotten out of the shower when her phone rang. It was Miriam calling. โHave you found out whoโs behind all this yet?โ Miriam asked.
Teresa fell silent for a while before replying vaguely, โIโll take care of it. Iโm heading back to Hareigh tomorrow. I promise I wonโt let anything happen to the company.โ
Miriam sighed. โTeresa, Iโm not worried about the company. Iโm worried about you! Youโre pregnant, and you flew to Jarisburg all by yourself, with no one by your side. How could I not be worried?โ
Teresa had an impulse to cry. โIโm sorry, Miriam. I just didnโt want you to shoulder this alone. I know whoeverโs behind this is targeting me, I donโt want to drag you or any innocent people into it.โ
Miriam asked, โThen who could it be? It couldnโt be Jennifer, right? No wayโฆโ
Teresa replied, โItโs not her. It should be someone else. Letโs talk about it when Iโm back tomorrow.โ
Miriam nodded. โAlright. Itโs getting late. You should get some rest. Are you staying at a hotel tonight? Is that hotel safe? Since youโre by yourself, make sure you lock the door tight.โ
โOkay, good night,โ Teresa replied, not bothering to explain much before hanging up.
She sat on the bed, staring blankly into space. Just thinking about the mess at the company made her anxious all over again. She pressed her hand to her forehead, feeling completely overwhelmed.
A knock sounded on the door. Teresa didnโt respond. Then it sounded again several more times.
โI know youโre still up. I made you some late-night snacks. Arenโt you hungry? Come out and have some food, okay?โ Jonathan called from outside.
โNo, Iโm not hungry. Iโm going to sleep,โ Teresa replied.
Jonathan fell silent. Then he let out a sigh and knocked again. โThen at least have some milk before you go to bed. Iโve warmed it up for you.โ
After he finished speaking, he just pushed the door open and came in. Teresa was already lying in bed. She turned her back to him, refusing to even look at him.
Jonathan set the pasta and warmed milk down on the nightstand beside her bed and said, โTry to eat a little. You were on the plane for hours and then waited for me at the gate for so long. You must be starving.โ
After he said that, Teresa did start to feel hungry. Maybe it was the baby who was hungry. She propped herself up to sit, and Jonathan moved to help her, but Teresa pushed his hand away. She could manage on her own.
Jonathan stared at her, checking out how thin she was. Some women who were six months pregnant all had bellies round and huge like balloons, but Teresa was barely showing, just a tiny bump, nothing obvious at all.
He remembered the doctor explaining the difference between anterior and posterior pregnancies, but she wasnโt even putting on any weight. Honestly, it was driving him crazy.
Teresa had barely eaten a couple of bites of pasta when she suddenly jumped out of bed, pushed Jonathan aside, and ran straight to the bathroom to throw up.
โWhatโs going on? Why are you throwing up?โ Jonathan asked while patting her back with concern. He wondered, โIs it food poisoning? But I used all fresh ingredients.โ
Teresa just shook her head, brushed his arm away, and kept throwing up at the sink. Only when her stomach felt completely empty did she finally grab a cup and rinse out her mouth.
Jonathan had already grabbed his car keys, draped his jacket over her shoulders, and wrapped an arm around her. โCome on, Iโm taking you to the hospital to get you checked out.โ
โNo, Iโm fine," Teresa said.
โFine? You just threw up your guts. How is that fine?โ Jonathan snatched up a towel and gently wiped her mouth. His eyes were filled with worry and anxiety, which dazed Teresa for a moment.
She was about to refuse again, but before she could get the words out, Jonathan had already swept her off her feet and carried her in his arms. Then they rushed straight to the hospital.
