Chapter 772

Peggy cursed under her breath. She hadnโ€™t expected Evelyn to find her again.

Right now, she didnโ€™t care about her suitcase. She just wanted to turn around and leave, but the other exit was blocked by Teresa, leaving her with no way out.

Lucas, who had walked away, turned back when he saw Jonathanโ€™s Maybach. He was glad he did.

Through the glass door, he saw Jonathan and Teresa walking toward Peggy.

Peggy clenched her fists. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

She was surrounded. There was no way to escape.

Finally, she locked eyes with Evelyn. Evelyn lost control again and grabbed her by the shoulders. โ€œYouโ€™re Peggyโ€“you have to be Peggy!โ€

Peggy snapped back, โ€œI told you, Iโ€™m not this Peggy youโ€™re looking for.โ€

โ€œI remember you had a red birthmark on your left shoulder,โ€ Evelyn said. โ€œDare to let me check? One look and Iโ€™ll know.โ€

โ€œFine. If I donโ€™t have a birthmark, youโ€™ll leave me alone.โ€ Peggy pushed her hair back, untied the ribbon around her neck, and turned so Evelyn could see her shoulder.

Evelyn yanked at Peggyโ€™s collar and looked. But she froze. There was no birthmark on Peggyโ€™s shoulder.

Peggy let her hair fall back and sneered. โ€œHappy now? I told you, youโ€™ve got the wrong person. Now get lost.โ€

โ€œWait. Birthmarks can be removed,โ€ Jonathan said coldly, fixing his eyes on Peggy. โ€œBut a personโ€™s birthplace never changes. Right, Ms. Davis?โ€

Peggyโ€™s eyes darted. She bit her lip, then forced a calm tone. โ€œBirthplace? I was born in Nareigh. Why? Are you from Nareigh too?โ€

โ€œNareigh? Are you really not Peggy? Why wonโ€™t you just admit it?โ€ Evelyn was still staring her down.

The birthmark could be gone, but the person wouldnโ€™t change.

Yet Peggy refused to admit it, insisting Evelyn had the wrong person.

Just then, a voice came from behind them. โ€œMr. Lynn, whatโ€™s going on?โ€

Everyone turned to look at Lucas.

Evelyn froze, staring at Lucas. The moment he appeared, her accusations against Peggy seemed to solidify.

Lucas had no idea what was happening. He frowned. โ€œMr. Lynn, do you have some kind of problem with my mother? You can tell me.โ€

Jonathanโ€™s brows shot up. โ€œYouโ€™re sayingโ€ฆ sheโ€™s your mother?โ€

Lucas nodded. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Can someone explain?โ€

Jonathan stared at Lucas in disbelief. โ€œSo your real last name is Davis?โ€

Lucas had hidden his real last name before, and Jonathan believed him, never checked. But now Lucas was openly claiming Peggy as his mother, which left Jonathan stunned.

โ€œSheโ€™s my sonโ€“Lucas Davis,โ€ Peggy suddenly declared loudly.

The one who hurt the most at that moment was Evelyn. She said, โ€œSo you finally admit youโ€™re Peggy?โ€

Peggy feigned innocence and shook her head. โ€œMy son and I are catching an international flight, and weโ€™re about to be late. Move, all of you, or Iโ€™ll call the police. If I do, youโ€™ll all end up in jail.โ€

Evelyn was on the verge of breaking down. โ€œAt this point, whatโ€™s left to hide? What are you covering up?โ€

Peggy had no patience left. She grabbed Lucas by the arm. โ€œWeโ€™re leaving. Donโ€™t waste time on these lunatics.โ€

โ€œWait a moment,โ€ Teresa suddenly said.

She stepped toward Lucas, suddenly remembering where she had seen him before.

โ€œDid you go to Chesburg two years ago? You went to pay respects at the graves of an elderly coupleโ€“Bradley Johnston and Natalie Johnston, right?โ€ Teresa spoke the names of her late grandparents.

Lucas asked, โ€œHow do you know that?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m their granddaughter, Teresa,โ€ she said.

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Lucas replied. โ€œActually, when I came back that time, I was looking for Natalieโ€™s nephew, Josh. He is my-โ€

โ€œEnough!โ€ Peggy suddenly shouted furiously. โ€œStop talking. Letโ€™s go.โ€

But Evelyn stood in front of Peggy.

โ€œJosh? Thatโ€™s the name of your ex-husband,โ€ Evelyn said. โ€œI remember it was Teresaโ€™s grandmother who arranged your marriage.

โ€œYou were after Joshโ€™s money, and he was attracted to your youth. But after marrying him, you found out he was abusive and a gambler. Thatโ€™s why you divorced him.

โ€œI have enough evidence now to prove youโ€™re Peggy. You think because you had plastic surgery and removed your birthmark, I wouldnโ€™t recognize you? Why wonโ€™t you admit it?โ€

Faced with so much evidence, Peggy finally gritted her teeth and impatiently pushed Evelyn away. โ€œYes, Iโ€™m Peggy. Happy now? So what?โ€

Evelyn felt a chill run through her heart. She had once held a small hope that Peggy might change for the better.

โ€œYou only admit who you are now?โ€ Evelyn said coldly. โ€œYouโ€™re still the same as beforeโ€“never a single honest word.โ€

โ€œCan someone tell me whatโ€™s really going on?โ€ Lucas looked at Peggy in confusion. He desperately needed an explanationโ€“he didnโ€™t want to feel like a fool who knew nothing.

Peggy said indifferently, โ€œEvelyn is my cousin.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Lucas was shocked. He glanced at Teresa and thought, โ€˜So Teresa is my cousin too?โ€˜

โ€œWait, itโ€™s not like that,โ€ Evelyn said tearfully, looking at Lucas.

His face bore some resemblance to Teresaโ€™s. Evelyn felt more certain of the thought in her heart. โ€œLucas, you might be my son.โ€

Lucas froze on the spot, feeling a chill spread through his body. It was like a thunderbolt had struck him. He couldnโ€™t move, only stared at Evelyn.

Peggyโ€™s eyes were clearly evasive. She lost control again and shouted, โ€œWhat nonsense are you talking about? Heโ€™s my son. You know I gave birth to a boy!โ€

Evelynโ€™s voice rang out loud and firm. โ€œBack then, we gave birth in the same hospital. There were only two of us in the maternity ward. The babies might have been switched. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™ve gone through so much trouble to find you.โ€

โ€œImpossible,โ€ Peggy said. โ€œHow could they be switched? You had a daughter, and I had a son. I never wanted your cheap little girl.โ€

Evelyn hated Peggy to the core. โ€œAfter all these years, youโ€™re still the sameโ€“you only wanted a son, never a daughter. I didnโ€™t think you switched the babies on purpose before, but now I have to ask.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t understand the nonsense youโ€™re spouting. Lucas is the son I raised with my own hands. Of course heโ€™s mine!โ€ Peggy said. โ€œLucas, letโ€™s go.โ€

โ€œWhether heโ€™s your son or not, a DNA test will tell us,โ€ Jonathan said.

No one was leaving without a test today.

Lucas pushed Peggyโ€™s hand away. โ€œI agree. I want a DNA test.โ€
