Chapter 729

Marriage often started out wonderfully, while in the end, it always turned into a mess. Most people would get worn down by marriage. Everyone ended up battered and had to make the choice to break free and start over.

If it weren’t for the kids, there’d be nothing left for Teresa and Jonathan to talk about. She found out she was pregnant only after the divorce.

If she’d known before, he never would’ve agreed to let her go. And then they’d just keep hurting each other, stuck in a never-ending cycle.

Without that, Jonathan probably never would’ve left Nareigh and started his business overseas, and he wouldn’t have built Horizonlead Group in just two years. Back then, family would have held him back. Right now, Teresa didn’t want to sugarcoat the road she had never walked down.

“Now that everything’s been said to your family, there’s really no reason for me to come to your place anymore. It’s getting late. I’ll go pick up Miriam myself. You don’t need to come with me,” Teresa said.

Jonathan seemed lost in thought, his voice turning low and hoarse. “I’m not going to make this ugly between us. For the kids, I won’t take you to court, and I won’t go after your family either. Whatever happened before, let’s just let it go.”

“Thank you,” Teresa said sincerely.

It was like after all the breakdowns, misunderstandings, and the pain of having to make those hard choices, for once, Teresa could finally talk to Jonathan calmly.

He felt the same. After all the anger and hurt from being lied to and kept in the dark, now, for the sake of their kids, at least they could still treat each other with a bit of decency.

“I have one more question,” Jonathan said, looking at her with a trace of unwillingness in his eyes.

Teresa nodded, waiting to hear what he had to say.

“You said things were great when we first got married. Did you ever love me? Or was it just because I treated you well? You thought I was a decent guy and you were touched, so you just decided to settle down?” Jonathan asked, his voice low.

“It’s been five or six years,” Teresa said, her voice heavy with emotion. “I honestly don’t even know how to answer that anymore.”

Jonathan opened his mouth to say something else, but before he could, Jennifer suddenly reached out and grabbed Teresa’s hand.

“She doesn’t even know how to answer you. You’re her ex-husband now. Stop putting her on the spot,” Jennifer said, her sudden appearance making a chill flash in Jonathan’s eyes.

“This is between me and her,” Jonathan replied, his voice firm.

“But you’re her ex now. Just worry about yourself and your pain-in-the-neck, drama-queen mom,” Jennifer shot back.

“You should worry about yourself first,” Jonathan said coldly, showing Jennifer no mercy. “As a doctor, you’ve forged reports more than once.

“Whether Teresa forced you or not, you really have no right to be in this profession. Quit as soon as possible and stop causing harm to others.” With that, he turned and walked away.

“You-!” Jennifer now despised Jonathan and his whole family even more.

“Let’s go,” Teresa said.

Since Teresa’s car was totaled, she agreed to let Jennifer give her a ride, but she quickly regretted it. Jennifer spent the whole drive picking her apart.

Jennifer huffed, “Honestly, you can be so clueless sometimes. I told you to keep it a secret for your own good, but now look where that’s gotten you.

“Do you even know what Irene said after you left? She called you a manipulator, mocked you, and insisted that Mike has to be a Lynn.”

Teresa said, “She doesn’t have a say on this.”

“Ha,” Jennifer sneered. “You really have no idea what Irene is capable of. If she actually figures out a way to take Mike from you, what are you going to do then?”

Teresa took a deep breath. “That’s enough, Jennifer. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Please, just drop it.”
