Chapter 725
โJennifer will be focusing on her pregnancy and taking care of herself,โ Donald said, deliberately looking at Jonathan. โSheโll be taking a break from the hospital for now.โ
Jonathan looked at Donald, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. This wasnโt what theyโd agreed on when they negotiated terms.
โJonathan, Iโm really sorry about some things. Letโs eat first. Iโll toast to you,โ Donald said, trying to break the ice. But Jonathan didnโt take the drink, his expression still cold.
Hayden spoke up, โAlright, letโs all eat. This is good news. Our family is getting a double blessing.โ
โGrandpa, would you mind if we had a triple blessing in the family?โ Cheryl asked, her tone extra careful.
โWhatโs up?โ Hayden asked, curiosity piqued. โDid you fall in love or something?โ
โItโs even bigger than-โ Cheryl began, but before she could finish, Donald nudged her arm, making her swallow her words.
โYou little troublemaker,โ Hayden said, catching on that Cheryl was hiding something. โWhat are you trying to say?โ
โItโs nothing. I was just curious. Thatโs all,โ Cheryl replied, trying to play it off.
โGirls your age should be thinking about marriage. If you meet someone nice, donโt wait too long to start dating,โ Hayden said in a half-scolding and half-teasing tone.
โGrandpa, Iโm just going to the restroom.โ Teresa suddenly stood up.
โDonald, Iโll go to the restroom, too,โ Jennifer said, rising from her seat as well.
Donald nodded, watching Jennifer as she walked away.
In the restroom, Teresa just couldnโt wrap her head around Jennifer. โDidnโt she just have an abortion? And now sheโs pregnant again? How is that even possible? Itโs only been a few days,โ Teresa thought in disbelief.
โThere will be another baby,โ Jennifer said quietly.
Jenniferโs words made everything click for Teresa. โSo you lied to Donald again, didnโt you? You never even told him about the abortion, did you?โ
โWhat was I supposed to do?โ Jenniferโs eyes shimmered with tears. โIf I told him, heโd leave me. The baby is my only bargaining chip. I canโt lose him.โ
โBut thatโs still lying to him! Heโs going to find out sooner or later. Didnโt you learn anything from what happened with Mike?โ Teresa said, her frustration showing.
โIf I can get pregnant with a second baby soon, heโll never know I had an abortion. This is the only way I can keep our marriage together,โ Jennifer said.
She took a deep breath and added, โInstead of lecturing me, maybe you should worry about your own situation. That old witch Irene is out to snatch Mike from you.โ
โI knew this would happen,โ she said, with that classic โI told you soโ look on her face.
Teresa let out a cold laugh. โI donโt regret Jonathan finding out about Mike. I only regret not telling him sooner. Now Mike has a dad, and heโs happy. Thatโs enough for me."
โSure, Irene worries me, but Iโm not afraid of her. Mike would never choose to leave me for Jonathan. Even if Irene tries to take him, Mike will still pick me.โ
Jennifer scoffed at Teresaโs naivety. โArenโt you afraid Irene might just snatch Mike away from you? That old witch looks like sheโd do anything. Now both our lives are a mess, just like you wanted, huh?โ
โThis isnโt all my fault,โ Teresa said, feeling completely worn out from yet another exhausting conversation with Jennifer. Every time they talked, it just drained her. โIf we were really sisters, would it always be this hard to get along?โ she wondered.
โIf you want to lie to Donald, then you can deal with whatever comes next,โ Teresa said, pausing. โHonestly, you should just use this pregnancy as a reason to resign. At least that way, youโll leave the hospital with your reputation intact.โ
โIโm not giving up my job, and Iโm not giving up Donald either. My marriage and my careerโtheyโre all I have left. I canโt lose either of them,โ Jennifer said, her voice desperate and unwavering.
