Chapter 710
Jonathan was bustling around alone in the dining room. The villa felt especially quiet. He was the only one there, since the materi heโd hired to look after Michael didnโt live in.
โEat first. Sit down,โ Jonathan said expressionlessly as he set the table, a far cry from how heโd acted at her place last night.
Teresa stood across from him and shook her head. โNo need. Iโm not hungry. Will one night with me be enough?โ Teresa asked.
Jonathanโs hand paused mid-motion as he set the plates. Frowning slightly, he said calmly, โI had a bit too much to drink last night. Honestly, I donโt even remember what I said.โ
Teresa said, โYou told me to come alone and pay with my body. Iโll accept whatever you do. It was my fault for hiding the truth. Iโm not asking for mercy, but Miriam and Cheryl were innocent. Miriam doesnโt know youโve found out about Mike.โ
After listening quietly to Teresa, Jonathan remained impassive. Once seated, he said, โLetโs eat first. Iโve been swamped all day. I didnโt even have time for lunch.โ
โYou go ahead and eat. Iโm not hungry,โ Teresa said, turning her back to Jonathan and walking over to the windowsill.
Jonathan took a couple of bites, then instantly lost all appetite.
To think heโd left work early and made a special trip to buy fresh ingredients after seeing her message about coming over.
Jonathan thought, โWhat on earth am I expecting?โ
Jonathan wiped the corner of his mouth and left the dining room.
Jonathan leaned against the bedroom door, arms crossed and expression unreadable. โSo, are you just going to stand there? Werenโt you the one who wanted to bargain with your body?โ Jonathan said.
Only then did Teresa walk over from the balcony. She said coolly, โJust two conditions. First, lights off. Second, donโt make me face you. I donโt want to see your face.โ
Truthfully, Jonathan never meant to go that far. Last nightโs kiss came from drunken impulse, not intent. If she hadnโt offered herself today, the thought wouldnโt have even crossed his mind.
But now, something inside Jonathan snapped. Fury surged through Jonathan. โAs if I want to look at your face. Get in here now,โ he ordered.
โThen you must promise not to go after Miriam, and please show some respect for the Johnston familyโs reputation,โ Teresa said.
After a night of passionate intimacy, only the two of them remained on the large bed.
When Jonathan woke up, the first thing he saw was Teresaโs back as she kept her distance from him. He glanced at the bedside clock. It was 9:30. He couldnโt remember the last time heโd slept in this late.
He still had a board meeting to attend today. There was no way he could skip Horizonlead Group.
On the way to the office, Jonathan postponed the meeting and called the nanny to prepare lunch, casually listing a few of Tiโs favorite dishes.
By the time Jonathan finished his meeting, it was already 2:30 PM. Only then did Jonathan notice the nannyโs message.
The message read: โMr. Lynn, Ms. Johnston skipped lunch. I tried to get her to eat, but she said she wasnโt hungry.โ
Jonathan frowned. Teresa hadnโt eaten breakfast, and now she was skipping lunch too.
Jonathan called the nanny.
The nanny said, โMr. Lynn, Ms. Johnston still isnโt up yet.โ
Jonathan said, โThen just leave it there for her. Sheโll get up and eat when sheโs hungry.โ
โOkay, Mr. Lynn. Iโll warm up Ms. Johnstonโs meal when she wakes up.โ
โOkay,โ He replied and then hung up.
Jonathan recalled last night. Neither of them spoke a word. Teresa stayed silent, lying face down, unable to look at him. By dawn, she had already turned away.
Jonathan thought to himself, โI donโt know why, but something about her just feels off.
It feels like after last night, sheโs determined to cut all ties with me for good."
