Chapter 691
Jonathanโs expression darkened as he snapped his gaze to Christian.
Christian stood stunned for a few seconds, then quickly stared at Sherryโs belly. He asked, โAre you pregnant? Am I going to be a dad? How could I not know about this?โ
Sherry replied, โI went for the ultrasound alone this morning. I just got the results on my phone. Iโm six weeks pregnant. I havenโt had the chance to tell you yet.โ
Christian gripped Sherryโs hand tightly, tears streaming down his faceโhe couldnโt tell if it was from excitement or something else. He murmured, โThis is wonderful.โ
Jonathan rested his forehead against his fingers, watching the scene with icy disdain. He sneered, โBeing a father feels wonderful, doesnโt it? Does that mean my son could just be ignored? He doesnโt even get to know his real father?โ
Sherry stroked her belly and said, โMr. Lynn, we were wrong, both of us. For the sake of our upcoming wedding and the baby Iโm carrying, please, spare our little family of three. Ever since Christian left the company, weโve barely been in touch with Teresa. If you donโt believe me, you can ask her yourself. We were hardly involved in any of this. Now, Christian and I just want a quiet, ordinary life together.โ
Jonathanโs face was utterly devoid of warmth. He thought, โWho doesnโt want a simple life? I donโt even dare to hope for that anymore.โ
Christian patted Sherryโs hand gently and said, โYou should leave first. I will apologize to Mr. Lynn alone.โ
Sherry clung to Christianโs hand and said, โYou shouldnโt be here. This is all my fault. I told you not to get involved in this mess. Now that everythingโs come to light, Iโve ruined your life. Iโm so sorry, Christian.โ
Christian looked at Jonathan and said, โMr. Lynn, do whatever you want with me. Even if you throw me in jail, I wonโt complain. But please, for the sake of my pregnant wife, donโt hold her accountable. Iโm begging you, Mr. Lynn.โ
Jonathanโs sneer deepened, his eyes growing colder. He thought, โHow amusing, playing the loving couple, are we?โ He cast a condescending glance at Sherryโs hand pressed protectively against her belly.
Sherryโs face was deathly paleโperhaps the strain was taking a toll on her pregnancy. Tears welled in her eyes as she clung desperately to Christianโs hand, refusing to let go.
In her gaze burned an unshakable resolve: whatever happened, she would stand by Christian through it all.
Jonathan stood up, turning away with chilling indifference. He demanded, โGet out, all of you. Never show your faces to me again.โ
Christian said, โMr. Lynn, Iโll leave Nareigh for good. I wish you good health, and may Mike grow up happy and strong.โ
Sherry wiped away her tears and said, โMr. Lynn, Christian and I will be leaving Nareigh together. I wish you and Mike all the best.โ
Jonathan didnโt glance back. His tall figure cast a solitary, imposing silhouette.
Christian carefully supported the pregnant Sherry as they slowly walked away, one step at a time.
Jonathan remained alone in the room for a long time, lost in his thoughts. Just as he was about to leave home for the hospital, he heard footsteps in the hallway grow steadily closer.
Cheryl stepped out of the car, glancing anxiously back at Donald, who was still parking by the entrance. She urgently motioned for him to hurryโshe didnโt dare face Jonathan alone.
When Cheryl stood her ground in front of Jonathan, she called, โJonathan.โ
Jonathanโs gaze fell on the baby girl cradled in Cherylโs arms. He let out a sudden, mocking laugh and asked, โWhereโd you borrow this kid from?โ
He sneered inwardly, โDo they all think a child is some kind of leverage against me?โ
Cheryl gritted her teeth and said, โThis isnโt a borrowed child. Sheโs my daughter, Serena.โ
