Chapter 650

Miriam now held several strands of Jenniferโ€™s hair in her hand.

Jennifer ran her fingers through her hair, thinking, Miriam has completely lost it, acting like a hysterical woman.

Miriam said, โ€œIโ€™m standing up for Teresa! Youโ€™re supposed to be her closest person, yet you keep hurting her over and over!โ€

Jennifer retorted, โ€œWhat harm have I done to her? Iโ€™m protecting Teresa, making her better than I do. Everything Iโ€™ve done has been for her, so she wonโ€™t get hurt again. Weโ€™re sisters. No one understands her.โ€

Miriam covered her ears, only removing her hands when Jennifer finished speaking. She snapped, โ€œMaybe you two arenโ€™t even real sisters! Youโ€™re just her worst enemy who canโ€™t stand seeing her happy!โ€

โ€œMiriam, has dating Edward turned your brain into that of a college kid? Guess thatโ€™s why you shouldnโ€™t date someone way younger. Look at you now, acting all childish with these wild fantasies. Pathetic.โ€

The next second, Miriam suddenly burst out laughing mockingly.

Jennifer was confused. โ€œWhat are you laughing at?โ€

Miriam suppressed her smile and put on a sarcastic look. โ€œDo you know what this is called? Playing the saint while doing badly. You donโ€™t care about Teresaโ€™s feelings at allโ€”itโ€™s all about you!โ€

Jennifer clenched her fists, her eyes narrowing sharply. โ€œHow dare you say I donโ€™t care about Teresa? As her best friend, you know better than anyone how miserable her marriage to Jonathan was.

โ€œYou saw how much she suffered, yet you still want to push her back into that living hell? Youโ€™re the one whoโ€™s hurting her!โ€

โ€œHow do you know Teresa wonโ€™t be happy now? Jonathanโ€™s worth hundreds of millionsโ€”heโ€™ll spoil her rotten.โ€

โ€œDoes money buy happiness?โ€

Miriam burst out laughing again. โ€œSeriously, Jennifer? You call me childish? Look whoโ€™s talking! Didnโ€™t your mom ever tell you that money solves ninety-nine percent of unhappiness? Jonathanโ€™s loaded now, and the only person he cares about is Teresa.

โ€œIf they get back together, Teresa will be happy, and Mike will get the best education. Even if you donโ€™t give a damn about Teresa, shouldnโ€™t you at least care about your nephew?

โ€œMikeโ€™s still little now, but what about his future? He deserves the best.โ€

Jennifer snapped, โ€œNeither Teresa nor Mike will ever be happyโ€”not with that witch Irene still in the picture.โ€

Miriam retorted, โ€œThis isnโ€™t our problem to worry aboutโ€”itโ€™s something they should work out between themselves.โ€

Jennifer snapped back, โ€œIโ€™m her sisterโ€”itโ€™s my duty to worry about this for her.โ€

Miriam shook her head, completely exasperated. โ€œJennifer, talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. Youโ€™ve been isolated from reality for far too long; your thinking is so warped and bizarre.

โ€œAnd whatโ€™s truly infuriating is that you donโ€™t even realize youโ€™re wrong.โ€

'Guess this is what it feels like when you just canโ€™t wake someone whoโ€™s pretending to be asleep,' Miriam thought.

There was a knock at the door, breaking the tense silence. โ€œDr. Nelson, itโ€™s almost 2 PM. Your afternoon patients have already checked in and are waiting in line.โ€

Jennifer replied, โ€œGot it.โ€ She straightened her white coat and walked out. Before leaving, she turned to Miriam, her face expressionless, and said coolly, โ€œYou need to leave now.โ€

"Fine, Iโ€™m leaving. Do you seriously think Iโ€™d be here willingly if it werenโ€™t for Teresa?โ€ With that, Miriam headed downstairs.

Miriam opened her palm, revealing several strands of Jenniferโ€™s hair. Hastily, she pulled out the small pouch she had prepared and carefully tucked all the hair inside.

"Jennifer," Miriam scoffed, "I just canโ€™t believe someone as heartless as you could be Teresaโ€™s blood sister. Maybe you two arenโ€™t even blood related at all..."

Benny suddenly interjected, โ€œWhoโ€™s blood related to whom?โ€ Miriam jumped in surprise, whirling around to find Benny standing right behind her; she hadnโ€™t even noticed when heโ€™d gotten there. Her hand flew to her chest. โ€œBenny! What are you doing here?โ€

Benny shrugged. โ€œWell, you know, Hayden from the Lynn family isnโ€™t feeling well, so I just came by to check on him and offer my familyโ€™s regards.โ€ Benny raised an eyebrow at Miriam. โ€œSo, what brings you to the hospital?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve got a cold, just here to pick up some meds.โ€

โ€œThen where are your meds?โ€ Benny asked, eyeing Miriamโ€™s empty hands.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m heading to the pharmacy on the second floor to get my meds. Wonโ€™t keep you from your visit. Edwardโ€™s still waiting for me outside.โ€

Benny blocked Miriamโ€™s path, staring her down. โ€œYou still havenโ€™t answered my question. I heard you say something about proving blood relationsโ€”whose relations exactly, huh?โ€

Miriam waved him off. โ€œYou mustโ€™ve misheard me, Benny. I never said anything like that.โ€

โ€œMiriam.โ€ Benny insisted, patting her shoulder. โ€œYouโ€™re not hiding something from me, are you? Weโ€™re such good friends. Is this about Teresa?โ€

Miriam gritted her teeth in frustration, thinking, โ€˜Oh no, Bennyโ€™s sticking his nose in again.โ€™ Then she said, โ€œThis has nothing to do with Teresa. Iโ€™m leaving.โ€

Benny stroked his chin, and his eyes fixed on Miriamโ€™s evasive look. โ€œWell, I donโ€™t believe it,โ€ he wondered.

โ€”โ€“

โ€œMr. Lynn, Christian has been waiting for you outside for quite some time.โ€

Jonathan thought Christian was there to tender his resignation. He was about to head out, having spent the past few days virtually living at the company, though in reality, heโ€™d been secretly tracking Teresaโ€™s movements. He walked over to where Christian was waiting.

Christian stared at Jonathan, his eyes cold and desolate, carrying a loneliness only the heartbroken know. That sorrow made his deep eyes seem even darker. Christian said, โ€œUm, Mr. Lynn, about the resignation I mentioned last timeโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIf your mind is made up, Iโ€™ll approve it.โ€

Just as Jonathan was about to head out, Christian suddenly called out to him. โ€œMr. Lynn, where are you off to? Do you need a ride?โ€

Jonathan replied, โ€œNo need.โ€

โ€œMr. Lynn, wait a minute.โ€ Christian suddenly stopped Jonathan again, his fists tightly clenched.

Jonathan turned back. โ€œWhat else? Iโ€™ve got urgent matters to attend to right now,โ€

Christian slowly unclenched his fists, โ€œThen... can we talk when you return?โ€ he conceded, โ€œIโ€™ll be waiting for you right here.โ€

Jonathan didnโ€™t say anything, got into the car, and signaled the driver to go.

The airline staff had helped Jonathan monitor Teresaโ€™s travel information. They located her return flight from Gorthany to Nareigh. Checking the time, Jonathan realized sheโ€™d already returned to Nareigh the day before.

Jonathan figured Teresa was still at work. The Maybach pulled up at the entrance of Tervsouth Group. Time crawled by.

As the sunset painted the sky with a warm glow, Jonathan stepped out of the car. Employees were streaming out of the building, one after another. Jonathan walked up to the receptionist and asked, โ€œIs Ms. Johnston still in?โ€

โ€œMs. Johnston is still in her office. She should be wrapping up soon.โ€

Before the receptionist could finish speaking, the elevator doors slid open, and Teresa stepped out. โ€œMs. Johnston, Mr. Lynn is here to see you,โ€ the receptionist called out.

Teresaโ€™s eyes locked with Jonathanโ€™s, and neither of them looked away.

Teresa snapped out of her daze and walked over calmly. She told the receptionist, โ€œYou may leave now.โ€ Only when the entrance was empty did Teresa turn her gaze back to Jonathan.
