Chapter 63
Iโm on a business trip in Worvey. Canโt get back. Iโve handled the Jason issue for you,โ he said, pausing. โHeโs just a desperate clown, lashing out without any cards left to play.โ
He thought Jason was truly foolish, unaware that spreading rumors had legal consequences. For such a hot-headed fool, Jonathan didnโt even consider him a rival in love.
โConsider it as if his brain got scrambled from a concussion. Iโll make sure he stays put for a few more years. Donโt worry. Iโll handle it,โ Jonathan said in a determined tone.
โThanks. You donโt have to deal with my problems anymore; I can manage them on my own,โ Teresa responded, still a bit dazed.
โIโve already taken care of it,โ Jonathan said, implying there was no need for formalities. โIโll never understand what you saw in him in the first place!โ
Teresa didnโt argue and replied, โMy judgment was off when I got mixed up with that jerk!โ
โWhat about me?โ Jonathan asked, his deep voice carrying a hint of curiosity. โAm I not a hundred times better than him?โ
Teresa replied, โYouโre both my exes. Thereโs no point in comparing. You should get back to work, and I have things to do.โ That shut Jonathan up.
Once the call ended, Teresa sent Jonathan a transfer of 100,000. With no reply from Jonathan, Teresa sent another text: โTake it, would you? Youโve gone out of your way for me.โ
Still, Jonathan didnโt reply. Teresa flipped her phone over, frustrated. She figured she owed him; her ex had been a lifesaver, and the thought of not returning the favor gnawed at her guilt.
After Jason was arrested, Teresa gained a following of supporters, and the comments section was filled with sympathy for Teresa, who had such a trashy ex-boyfriend who would spread rumors about her.
The comments were overwhelmingly in her favor now.
Benny contacted Teresa, saying, โJonathan really cares about you. Heโs on a business trip in Embasia and still keeps an eye on your matters. At the slightest sign of trouble, he immediately arranges for me to get someone to handle it for you.โ
Teresa said, โJonathan has told me, and Jason deserves what he got! No doubt about it.โ
Benny agreed. โYour ex-boyfriend is indeed despicable. Jonathan is so much better than him. Didnโt you thank him?โ
โI sent him 100,000,โ Teresa said.
โDid he accept it?โ Benny asked.
โNo,โ Teresa replied. โThe transfer was automatically returned after twenty-four hours on WhatsApp. I sent all the money I had in my wallet to Jonathan.โ
Benny chuckled and said, โHe doesnโt need the money now! Heโs not going to accept it from you.โ
After some thought, he added, โI think if you want to thank him, given that he hasnโt been with a woman for two years and is probably lonely, maybe you could offer more than just money.โ
โBenny, if you canโt say something helpful, just stay quiet. No oneโs asking you to speak,โ Teresa retorted.
Benny continued, โIโm just saying! He told me he regretted not having a child. Now heโs all alone, sleeping by himself. You two were married for over two years, and itโs like you two just made a clean break.โ
Teresaโs heart skipped a few beats at the mention of children, but she didnโt go deeper into the subject. Benny was laying it on thick, fishing for Teresaโs take on getting hitched again, just so he could run back and spill the beans to Jonathan. But judging by Teresaโs response, it was clear she had no interest in remarrying. Benny felt a bit sorry for Jonathan; it seemed having no child was a deal-breaker for remarriage.
