Chapter 625

Jennifer stood up and snapped, โ€œHow is this my fault? Donโ€™t you dare slander me here!โ€

Cheryl shot back, โ€œWasnโ€™t it you stirring up trouble in my family again? Otherwise, why would my parents get divorced? The last time I came home, it was because you told me Dad was seeing someone else. Face it. It must be your fault.โ€

โ€œCheryl!โ€ Cathy tugged at Cherylโ€™s slender wrist and urged her to stop talking. โ€œJennifer wasnโ€™t wrong about this. Your dad did have an affair.โ€

It hit Cheryl like a ton of bricks. In Cherylโ€™s heart, Werner had always been a towering, majestic figure like an unshakable mountain. Now, that mountain had crumbled to dust.

With tears streaming down her face, Cheryl stared unblinkingly at Werner and demanded, โ€œDad! Is this true? Say something. Tell me, is what Mom said really true?โ€

Werner remained silent. Finally, he struggled to say, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Cheryl. I had my reasons.โ€

Cheryl cried out, โ€œWhat possible reasons could you have? I refuse to believe youโ€™re that kind of person.โ€ She burst out of the door.

Donald was about to chase after Cheryl, worried she might do something reckless, but Jennifer grabbed his arm with a frown. โ€œSheโ€™s an adult. Let her cool off on her own. Thereโ€™s no way she canโ€™t handle this.โ€

Donald let out a heavy sigh and finally sat down.

Cheryl ran to the park and collapsed onto a bench, burying her face in her hands as sobs wracked her body. She refused to believe that Werner had an affair.

Her phone buzzed. She pulled it out and saw a message from Donald. [Cheryl, itโ€™s true. Dad had an affair. We should respect Momโ€™s decision, and you need to accept this.]

As Cheryl read the message, tears once again streamed down her face. She broke down in unrestrained sobbing, her mournful cries drawing the attention of passersby, but she ignored them.

A Lamborghini pulled up on the road behind her, but in her distraught state, it went completely unnoticed. The sky was steadily darkening as amethyst-hued twilight glimmered in the distance.

It wasnโ€™t until a pair of white sneakers appeared before her that Cheryl, her vision blurred with tears, finally looked up.

Benny jogged over in a T-shirt, a towel slung around his sweaty neck. โ€œFancy meeting you here. Got something in your eye?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s none of your businessโ€ฆโ€ Cheryl roughly wiped away her tears.

Still catching his breath, he flashed a smile and plopped down beside her.

Benny handed her a bottle of water. โ€œThen make sure to hydrate. Iโ€™ll leave you to it. Gotta keep going with my run.โ€

โ€œHey, wait a sec.โ€ Cheryl clutched the hem of Bennyโ€™s shirt.

Benny turned to look at her, noticing her slender, fair fingers clutching his shirt.

Cheryl pouted pitifully, her voice thick with grievance. โ€œI really need a shoulder to lean on right now. Can I borrow it for a bit? I promise I wonโ€™t keep it long.โ€

Benny fought the urge to burst out laughing. But when he saw the look of utter misery on her face, he quickly suppressed his smile and sat down beside her.

He gave his shoulder a gentle, inviting pat, and the very next second, Cheryl leaned in, burying her tear-streaked face against Bennyโ€™s shoulder, overcome with heartache. โ€œMy family is shatteredโ€ฆโ€

Benny raised an eyebrow, giving her a puzzled look.

Cheryl sobbed even harder, โ€œMy dad cheated. Mom divorced him. Iโ€™ve lost my family forever!โ€

Benny showed little surprise. After all, Cathy had already consulted a lawyer about divorce, and that lawyer just happened to be from Bennyโ€™s firm. The divorce of Cherylโ€™s parents was something Benny had seen coming all along.
