Chapter 614
For Ireneโs birthday, Yorick had flowers delivered ahead of time to please her, and she loved them.
That evening, Irene prepared several dishes early and cleaned the house until it was spotless. When the cake arrived soon after, she couldnโt help but feel that Yorick had truly put his heart into it.
While tidying up, Irene kept an eye on Jonathan playing on the sofa.
Irene gently told Jonathan, โJonathan, when you grow up, make sure to find a wife as kind and hardworking as me. Sheโll be a wonderful wife and mother. Her wealth doesnโt matter. As long as she truly loves you, thatโs all that matters.โ
Irene waited for Yorick to come home, but hours passed with no sign of him. She tried calling Yorick, but his phone was off. A light drizzle began to fall, and the elaborate meal sheโd prepared was already cold. Irene grew increasingly worried.
She left Jonathan with the neighbor for a while, then braved the rain to look for Yorick. Worried he might be caught without an umbrella, she carried an extra one for him.
But on a street just a stoneโs throw from her house, Ireneโs eyes fell upon a heartbreaking sight. Outside a bar, Liora was clinging to Yorickโs neck with both hands, tearfully pouring out something to him that Irene couldnโt quite hear.
The umbrella slipped from Ireneโs hand and landed on her foot, but she was so numb with shock that she didnโt feel a thing.
She would never forget that rainy day. From where Irene stood, she couldnโt make out Yorickโs expressionโonly the tense line of his back and his obvious attempts to pull away, along with the knowing glances from the bystanders.
Then came the words that spilled from Lioraโs lips. โI love you, Yorick.โ
Snapping back to reality, Irene lunged forward in a frenzy and delivered a stinging slap across Lioraโs face. Irene didnโt know what Liora wanted.
Many onlookers watched Irene with mocking amusement, but she paid them no mind. In a fit of rage, she frantically shoved Liora, not stopping until Yorick wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a taxi.
Irene was trembling with rage as she demanded, โWhy are you doing this to me, Yorick? Didnโt you swear there was nothing between you and Liora? What was that about? Todayโs my birthday, Jonathan and I were waiting at home for you, I cooked a whole feast. And what do you do? Youโre actually off with Liora instead.โ
โPlease, just hear me out. Let me explain!โ Yorick desperately gripped Ireneโs hands with both of his, but she refused to listen. She shouted at the driver, โStop the car. Iโm getting out.โ
After Irene stormed out of the car, Yorick hurried after her. Catching her arm, he began explaining desperately.
Yorick explained, โAfter work, I was actually on my way to the jewelry store to buy you a gift when Werner called. He said heโd been in a car accident outside a bar and needed me to come help sort things out.โ
Werner wasnโt married back then, and as his elder brother, Yorick couldnโt just abandon him in his time of need.
He had no choice but to go to the bar. To his utter surprise, the car involved in the accident with Werner was Lioraโs family car, driven by her chauffeur. Inside, Liora was completely wasted, and her driver had come to pick her up.
Liora turned her head and spotted Yorick at the door. Her eyes lit up, and without a care in the world, she shoved aside the people around her and dashed straight to him.
