Chapter 607

Werner looked like he was trying to save face. โ€œJonathan, donโ€™t think having a little money gives you the right to act all high and mighty. I'm your uncle.โ€

Jonathan didnโ€™t even blink. He pulled out his phone and said, โ€œCool, Iโ€™ll call Grandpa then. Let him come watch this train wreck in person.โ€

That shut Werner up fast. His expression shifted. Jonathan raised an eyebrow. โ€œWell? Should I make the call or not?โ€

Sanford jumped in, shouting, โ€œWeโ€™re doing the DNA test. No more delays. I want it done now. I want a doctor here to take the samples in front of everyone. I want proof that I have nothing to do with Werner.โ€

Wernerโ€™s face turned ghost-white. The doctor had already been called to collect hair samples from both of them. Everyone saw it happen. The samples were taken straight to the lab. Werner couldnโ€™t back out even if he wanted to.

He thought about running, but he didnโ€™t know where he would go. Meanwhile, Irene was already on her way. Jonathan called her with just one sentence: โ€œSanford isnโ€™t my dadโ€™s kid.โ€

She asked, โ€œThen whose is he?โ€

Jonathan answered, โ€œTheyโ€™re testing him against his real father. Weโ€™ll have the results in two hours.โ€

Irene came right away. Her heart had been racing the whole trip. Nobody knew how much sheโ€™d suffered emotionally these past few days. Sheโ€™d been trying to swallow the fact that her husband might have had a child with another woman.

The child was only two years younger than Jonathan. And that woman just happened to be Liora, the one she couldnโ€™t stand the most. And now they were telling her the kid wasnโ€™t even Yorickโ€™s.

Outside the DNA lab, Werner sat slouched in a chair. His hands were tangled in his hair, pulling hard. His head hung low. He didnโ€™t know how to face what was coming next.

Right now, he just wanted to go somewhere far away, somewhere no one knew him. But deep down, he knew that wasnโ€™t possible. If he bailed now, no one was going to let this go.

Werner finally lowered his hands and reached out, trying to explain himself to Cathy. He barely touched her arm. His voice cracked with desperation. โ€œCathyโ€ฆโ€

Cathy jerked back like heโ€™d burned her. โ€œDonโ€™t touch me!โ€ Her whole body tensed up, like a frightened animal. She glared at him, eyes wide, lips trembling.

โ€œYou better hope to God this test proves youโ€™re not the father. Because if you areโ€ฆโ€ Her voice caught. She couldnโ€™t even finish the sentence.

Her throat locked up. She covered her face with both hands. Her body shook as she broke down crying. She hadnโ€™t seen the results yet, but she still held onto a sliver of hope.

She didnโ€™t want to believe Werner was Sanfordโ€™s father. She didnโ€™t want to believe her life was falling apart the same way Ireneโ€™s had.

She couldnโ€™t make sense of it. The man she had shared a bed with for years had a grown son with someone else.

She couldnโ€™t even bring herself to look at Sanford. She was so scared that the more she looked, the more sheโ€™d see Wernerโ€™s face in himโ€”the bone structure, the profileโ€”everything looked too familiar. โ€˜No. It couldnโ€™t be,โ€™ she thought.

It had to be a mistake. She wasnโ€™t ready to believe it, and she definitely wasnโ€™t ready to accept it.

โ€œJonathan!โ€ Irene showed up as fast as she could, disheveled and panting. She grabbed Jonathanโ€™s hand tightly and demanded to know what was really going on.

โ€œSanford isnโ€™t your dadโ€™s kid? Then who is his real father?โ€ she asked.

โ€œThe results are not available now. Calm down,โ€ said Jonathan.

โ€œHow am I supposed to stay calm? You know how much I hate Liora, and now youโ€™re telling me she lied to me? Whose child is Benton going on?โ€

Jonathan stayed quiet. Irene looked around and saw Cathy breaking down in tears and Werner sitting silently with his head down.

Aside from Jonathan and Sanford, Werner was the only man there. Suddenly, Irene put two and two together. She pointed at Werner and shouted, โ€œSo Lioraโ€™s son is yours, right? Werner, you let your dead brother take the blame for you. Youโ€™re so disgusting!โ€

Cathy snapped back at her, saying, โ€œShut up! The results arenโ€™t available yet. Donโ€™t say anything right now.โ€

Irene pulled back and took a step back, her eyes on Sanford, who was leaning against the windowsill. From that angle, she could see his profile clearly.

โ€œI knew something was off. Now I get it. Look at Sanfordโ€™s face. Who does he look like? Heโ€™s definitely someoneโ€™s kid. He doesnโ€™t look like Yorick at all,โ€ said Irene.

She turned away and said, โ€œWhereโ€™s Liora? Iโ€™m going to find her. She dared to lie to me. I wonโ€™t let her get away with it!โ€

Jonathan frowned and said firmly, โ€œEnough. Sit down. Nobody leaves until the results come in today.โ€

Irene pressed her lips together and stopped shouting. Werner couldnโ€™t hold it anymore. He stood up and turned to leave.

Jonathan called out, โ€œWerner, sit down too! No one leaves without my permission.โ€

Werner told Jonathan he was going to the bathroom. Jonathan replied, โ€œThe bathroomโ€™s on the left. Why are you going right?โ€

Werner noticed the security guards on either side and realized escape wasnโ€™t an option. He sat back down. A heavy silence fell over the room.

Cathy quietly sobbed. Werner stayed silent, holding his head in his hands. Ireneโ€™s eyes darted around, deep in thought. Only Sanford and Jonathan remained calm. One leaned against the windowsill, the other against the wall.

Sanford didnโ€™t say a single word. He remained still, standing with his back to everyone, one hand gently resting on the cold glass.

Jonathanโ€™s phone buzzed several times, but he ignored all work calls. Like everyone else, he waited quietly for the results. His anxiety matched Sanfordโ€™s.

The father Jonathan had always admired, praised by every relative as honest and kind, was once revealed to be Sanfordโ€™s half-brother. The news crushed Jonathan inside.

He drank to numb the pain and suffered alone, trying to accept this harsh truth. Now, everything changed. More than anyone, Jonathan needed to know who Sanfordโ€™s real father was.

The first DNA test compared Hayden and Sanford, proving Sanford belonged to the Lynn family. No one doubted his Lynn blood. But the Lynn family had more men than just Yorick.

Just then, the testing room doors swung open. Jonathanโ€™s eyes darkened with complex thoughts. The doctor approached Jonathan and handed him the test results first. โ€œMr. Lynn.โ€

Irene tried to rush forward, but Jonathan stopped her sharply. โ€œWait a minute.โ€

Irene clenched her teeth, sat back down, and gripped her fingers tightly. Jonathan opened the report and flipped through the pages until he reached the final result.
