Chapter 566
Jonathan said, โSheโs got me. She doesnโt need your comfort.โ
Sanford sneered and said, โI know her worries and secrets inside out. What about you? I bet you have no idea. Then again, you two are done. An ex is a dead ex.โ
Jonathan clenched his fist at his side. He shot Teresa a complicated look and found she had no intention of explaining.
Jonathan then turned to Sanford and said, โI know youโre only getting close to her to get back at me. Stop acting like a child.โ
Sanford let out another mocking laugh. โI really hit your nerve, didnโt I? You canโt even argue back. Face it. You donโt know Teresa half as well as I do, or you wouldnโt be so desperate to take her away.โ
Jonathanโs jaw clenched. He ignored Sanford and moved to pull Teresa away.
Teresa pulled her hand away from Jonathanโs. She said, โIโm tired. I can go back by myself.โ
Jonathan lowered his gaze, feeling that his empty palm had lost its grip on everything. He raised his eyebrows and asked, โSince youโre tired, why didnโt you go rest, but still have the energy for coffee after the concert?โ
Teresa froze for a second. She wondered, โHow does he know I went to the concert? Was he there too?โ
Jonathan clearly caught a flicker of panic in Teresaโs eyes, but he had no idea why.
Jonathan said, โI had Miriam give you the concert ticket. Who else couldโve gotten you front-row seats?โ
Teresa finally understood. She had thought Jonathan had been there too.
Sanford pulled out his wallet and said, โItโs just the ticket price, right? How much is it? Iโll pay you back for her.โ
Jonathan sneered, โSave it. Iโm not short of an illegitimate childโs pocket change.โ
Sanfordโs face instantly darkened. He snapped, โAlright, Jonathan. Youโre really something.โ
He added, โI was going to tell you a thing or two about Teresa, but on second thought, I wonโt.โ
Jonathan said, โSheโll tell me herself if thereโs anything I need to know. Iโm certainly not about to listen to you. If you keep hounding her, I wonโt hold back.โ
Jonathan wrapped his arm firmly around Teresaโs shoulder and led her away.
Sanford didnโt chase them. He simply stood there and coldly watched Jonathan, who also put on a cold composure.
โI can walk by myself,โ Teresa protested.
Jonathan ignored her struggles and resistance. He bundled her into the car and started it.
After driving for a while, Jonathan realized he was going too fast. Seeing Teresaโs face, which turned pale and silent with fear, he slowed down and pulled over.
Jonathan broke the silence, โTeresa, we need to talk things through.โ
Teresa looked away and said, โIโve said all there is to say about us. Thereโs nothing left to discuss.โ
Jonathan said, โWould you rather talk to Sanford than me? When I asked what was bothering you, you wouldnโt tell me, but you were open to him."
โI wanted to cheer you up, so I asked Miriam to take you out. I even waited outside your place because I was worried about you driving at night. But you go running to him instead?โ
Teresa shot back, โWhat makes you think I went running to him? He called me, and he wanted to see me.โ
Jonathan said, โHe wanted to see you, and you just went to him? Is it really that easy for anyone to see you? When you come back, you give me the cold shoulder. What the hell did I ever do to deserve this?โ
Teresa was speechless. She said, โI told you I was in a bad mood and it had nothing to do with you, but you just had to take it personally."
โI had no idea the ticket Miriam gave me was from you. If Iโd known, I wouldnโt have gone there. Iโll pay you back for mine and Miriamโs ticket. How much were they?โ
Jonathanโs expression turned completely cold. He fell silent, restarted the car, and drove off.
Teresa noticed that Jonathan was not turning toward her place. She asked, โWhere are you taking me?โ
However, all she got was silence.
