Chapter 560

Donald grew serious. He said, โ€œJennifer is your sister-in-law. You shouldnโ€™t treat her like that. Itโ€™s not right.โ€

Cheryl snapped, โ€œWhat did I do wrong? Jennifer has only been married to you for a few days, but she accused [Dad] of cheating and made Mom paranoid and suspicious. Is she satisfied now? Is she happy seeing our perfectly good family fall apart?โ€

Donald said, โ€œJennifer just speaks her mind. She doesnโ€™t mean any harm.โ€

Cheryl talked back, โ€œOf all the people I know, she is the most selfish, cold-hearted, self-righteous, self-centered, calculating, mean, and sharp-tonguedโ€“โ€

Before Cheryl could finish her words, Donald cut in and said, โ€œStop! None of that applies to Jennifer.โ€

Cheryl retorted, โ€œWhat? Are you seriously saying sheโ€™s not selfish and cold-hearted?โ€

โ€œEveryone is selfish. Donโ€™t act like youโ€™re above it all.โ€ Donald still sided with Jennifer. โ€œJennifer had a tough childhood. She is just guarded, and we should try to understand her.โ€

Cheryl shot back, โ€œDonโ€™t you dare guilt-trip me, Donald. Why should I understand her? In my book, Jennifer isnโ€™t even fit to be my sister-in-law. Selfishness doesnโ€™t give her the right to hurt others.โ€

Donald snapped, โ€œThatโ€™s enough. Youโ€™re completely off track now. Who exactly has Jennifer hurt?โ€

Cheryl said, โ€œHer actions are tearing our family apart. If she really causes our family to break up, what are you going to do then, Donald?โ€

โ€œIt wonโ€™t happen,โ€ Donald said, giving Cheryl a reassuring pat on the shoulder. โ€œSee? Everything has settled now. Mom wonโ€™t dwell on it anymore, and neither should you.โ€

Cheryl said, โ€œIโ€™m not dwelling on it. I just want you to keep your guard up around Jenniferโ€“โ€

Cheryl suddenly stopped.

At the very least, when Cheryl was giving birth, Jennifer knew exactly what she was going through, yet Jennifer still left her. Even when Cheryl fainted from heatstroke, Jennifer didnโ€™t save her.

Cheryl hadnโ€™t forgotten any of it. She had never accepted Jennifer as her sister-in-law.

The taxi arrived, and Cheryl got in.

Donald, still trying to play peacemaker, told her, โ€œDonโ€™t misunderstand Jennifer. Sheโ€™s really not that kind of person. She is just straightforward and kind-hearted at heart.โ€

Cheryl rolled her eyes and said, โ€œAlright. Your wife is the kindest person. She is a perfect angel. Happy now?โ€

Donald replied, โ€œAlright. Take care of yourself, and let me know if you need anything.โ€

Donald watched as the taxi drove away. Only then did he finally step back inside the house.

Teresa hadnโ€™t slept well these past few days. Last night, she had a nightmare.

In her dream, everyone pointed at Michael, stared at him with strange, judgmental looks, and called him an illegitimate child. She also dreamed that Jennifer walked past her, fixed her with a condescending gaze, and said, โ€œSee? I told you so.โ€

Teresa woke with a start and realized it was a nightmare.

The sun was shining brightly outside. She opened the curtains, but the light couldnโ€™t pierce the gloom in her heart.

It was already past eight when Teresa was on her way to the office. On the way, she unexpectedly spotted Jonathanโ€™s car as he inspected a project site for Horizonlead Group.

Teresa bought a sandwich and a box of milk from a convenience store and was about to get into her car.

However, Jonathan had already stepped in front of her car door. He said, โ€œI was hoping to run into you, and here you are.โ€

Teresa replied coldly, โ€œWhat for?โ€

Jonathan studied her face and raised his brows. โ€œDid I do anything wrong again?โ€

โ€œNo, you didnโ€™t.โ€ Teresa finally glanced at him. โ€œMy hormones are all over the place, alright? Get away, I need to get to work.โ€

Jonathan frowned. After Teresa opened the car door and got in, he swiftly settled into the passenger seat.

Teresa was confused. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

Jonathan picked up the sandwich she had set aside and frowned. โ€œThis is no proper breakfast. Let me take you out for a real meal.โ€
