Chapter 558

Due to Wernerโ€™s refusal to cooperate, the source of the infection remained untraceable.

Cathy hadnโ€™t suspected anything at first, but Wernerโ€™s uncooperative attitude planted seeds of doubt in her mind.

She couldnโ€™t tell if it was just her imagination, but Cathy started feeling itchy, with tiny red bumps breaking out on her arms. The result of her medical checkup pushed her over the edge. She collapsed in tears at home, utterly overwhelmed.

Cheryl feared something terrible had happened to her family and rushed home in a panic.

Cathy clung to Cheryl and cried, โ€œWerner betrayed me. He gave me a venereal disease.โ€

Cheryl said, โ€œThatโ€™s impossible, Mom. Dad isnโ€™t that kind of person. You know him better than anyone.โ€

โ€œI used to know him so well, but now, I just donโ€™t understand him anymore.โ€ As Cathy spoke, she broke down into another fit of crying.

Cathy decided to go to the hospital for a thorough examination, and Cheryl accompanied her for support.

They went to Jenniferโ€™s hospital. Jennifer said, โ€œLuckily, itโ€™s not condyloma acuminata. The little red spots on your skin are just an allergic reaction, and thereโ€™s some inflammation. But the HPV virus was most likely transmitted by your partner.โ€

Cathy asked Jennifer, โ€œAre you saying Werner had an affair?โ€

Jennifer nodded. โ€œYour previous test results were all clear, but now thereโ€™s a sudden issue. This suggests a recent infection, and he is likely the source."

Suddenly, a resounding slap landed right on Jenniferโ€™s face.

Cherylโ€™s hands trembled with rage. She snapped, โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean? My dad would never do that. Youโ€™re accusing him of cheating. Do you have any proof?โ€

Jennifer retorted coldly, โ€œItโ€™s just an educated guess. If he has nothing to hide, why did he refuse testing?โ€

Cheryl said, โ€œHeโ€™s in his fifties. He has his pride. So what if he didnโ€™t want to get a check-up? Without any proof, how dare you accuse him of cheating on my mom? By your logic, can I accuse you of cheating on Donald?โ€

Jenniferโ€™s face went pale with rage. โ€œWhat did you just say? How could I ever betray Donald?โ€

Cheryl retorted, โ€œThen how could you accuse my dad?โ€

Jennifer said, โ€œBased on your motherโ€™s test results, if your father wasnโ€™t carrying the virus, thereโ€™s simply no way she could have contracted two high-risk strains.โ€

Cheryl snapped, โ€œSo that proves it came from my dad? They have been married for over twenty years. Donald and I know exactly what kind of people they are. And you, a newlywed daughter-in-law, really think you know them better than us?โ€

Jennifer clenched her fists. โ€œYou-โ€

Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out from outside the door.

Cheryl turned around and saw Donald. She instantly rushed to his side with grievance.

Cheryl clung to Donaldโ€™s arm and sobbed, โ€œDonald, your wife is nothing but a spoiler. She insisted that Dad cheated. She just wants to tear our family apart.โ€

Cheryl cried very sadly, and Donald tried to comfort her.

Jennifer watched the scene unfold, took a deep breath, and remained silent.

After Cheryl and Cathy had briefly left, Jennifer immediately complained to Donald, โ€œCheryl slapped me just now. She has absolutely no manners."

Unlike before, Donald didnโ€™t immediately show concern for Jennifer. Instead, he looked very exhausted.

Donald asked, โ€œDidnโ€™t you promise to stay out of this? Why are you getting involved again?โ€

Jennifer protested, โ€œIt was Cheryl who started this mess. She said my diagnosis was wrong, and she slapped me.โ€

Donald fell silent for a few seconds, and then he said, โ€œDad is not the type to do that. He has always been faithful to Mom, and he has been good to both Cheryl and me. At their age, what else could they possibly do?โ€
