Chapter 558
Due to Wernerโs refusal to cooperate, the source of the infection remained untraceable.
Cathy hadnโt suspected anything at first, but Wernerโs uncooperative attitude planted seeds of doubt in her mind.
She couldnโt tell if it was just her imagination, but Cathy started feeling itchy, with tiny red bumps breaking out on her arms. The result of her medical checkup pushed her over the edge. She collapsed in tears at home, utterly overwhelmed.
Cheryl feared something terrible had happened to her family and rushed home in a panic.
Cathy clung to Cheryl and cried, โWerner betrayed me. He gave me a venereal disease.โ
Cheryl said, โThatโs impossible, Mom. Dad isnโt that kind of person. You know him better than anyone.โ
โI used to know him so well, but now, I just donโt understand him anymore.โ As Cathy spoke, she broke down into another fit of crying.
Cathy decided to go to the hospital for a thorough examination, and Cheryl accompanied her for support.
They went to Jenniferโs hospital. Jennifer said, โLuckily, itโs not condyloma acuminata. The little red spots on your skin are just an allergic reaction, and thereโs some inflammation. But the HPV virus was most likely transmitted by your partner.โ
Cathy asked Jennifer, โAre you saying Werner had an affair?โ
Jennifer nodded. โYour previous test results were all clear, but now thereโs a sudden issue. This suggests a recent infection, and he is likely the source."
Suddenly, a resounding slap landed right on Jenniferโs face.
Cherylโs hands trembled with rage. She snapped, โWhatโs that supposed to mean? My dad would never do that. Youโre accusing him of cheating. Do you have any proof?โ
Jennifer retorted coldly, โItโs just an educated guess. If he has nothing to hide, why did he refuse testing?โ
Cheryl said, โHeโs in his fifties. He has his pride. So what if he didnโt want to get a check-up? Without any proof, how dare you accuse him of cheating on my mom? By your logic, can I accuse you of cheating on Donald?โ
Jenniferโs face went pale with rage. โWhat did you just say? How could I ever betray Donald?โ
Cheryl retorted, โThen how could you accuse my dad?โ
Jennifer said, โBased on your motherโs test results, if your father wasnโt carrying the virus, thereโs simply no way she could have contracted two high-risk strains.โ
Cheryl snapped, โSo that proves it came from my dad? They have been married for over twenty years. Donald and I know exactly what kind of people they are. And you, a newlywed daughter-in-law, really think you know them better than us?โ
Jennifer clenched her fists. โYou-โ
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out from outside the door.
Cheryl turned around and saw Donald. She instantly rushed to his side with grievance.
Cheryl clung to Donaldโs arm and sobbed, โDonald, your wife is nothing but a spoiler. She insisted that Dad cheated. She just wants to tear our family apart.โ
Cheryl cried very sadly, and Donald tried to comfort her.
Jennifer watched the scene unfold, took a deep breath, and remained silent.
After Cheryl and Cathy had briefly left, Jennifer immediately complained to Donald, โCheryl slapped me just now. She has absolutely no manners."
Unlike before, Donald didnโt immediately show concern for Jennifer. Instead, he looked very exhausted.
Donald asked, โDidnโt you promise to stay out of this? Why are you getting involved again?โ
Jennifer protested, โIt was Cheryl who started this mess. She said my diagnosis was wrong, and she slapped me.โ
Donald fell silent for a few seconds, and then he said, โDad is not the type to do that. He has always been faithful to Mom, and he has been good to both Cheryl and me. At their age, what else could they possibly do?โ
