Chapter 556
โMy dad isnโt that kind of man,โ Donald said firmly.
Jennifer said matter-of-factly, โYou should know that thereโs only one way a high-risk positive infection can be transmittedโsexual contact.โ
Donald remained silent for a moment, then sighed and took Jenniferโs hand. He said, โNo matter what, my dad would never do something like that. I know him better than anyone. Heโs always been completely faithful to my mom.โ
Jennifer said coolly, โThe reportโs right hereโitโs your call now.โ
Donald and Jennifer got out of the car. Once inside the house, they showed Cathy the screening results, leaving her utterly bewildered.
Cathy said in disbelief, โWhatโs going on? How could I, perfectly healthy before, suddenly have two high-risk strains? All my previous tests were completely normal. Could the results be wrong?โ
Jennifer said firmly, โOur hospital is the best in Nareigh, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Thereโs no mistaking these positive results.โ
Cathy said nervously, โHow could this happen to me? Iโm always so careful about hygiene. How did I get infected?โ She was already in her fifties, and the idea of developing cervical cancer terrified her.
Jennifer said frankly, โYouโll need to go back to the hospital for a comprehensive medical examination to rule out any lesions. As long as there are no lesions, it shouldnโt be a serious issue. These cases usually clear up on their own.โ
Cathy nodded, still looking confused. She asked, โSo how on earth did I get infected?โ
Just as Jennifer was about to explain, Donald abruptly cut her off.
Donald said, โMom, your immune system is just a bit weak. Itโs nothing serious. Jennifer just wants you to get a thorough checkup for your own good. Donโt be scared, itโs not cervical cancer.โ
Hearing Donaldโs reassurance, Cathy finally felt at ease.
Shortly after, Werner returned, and Donald took him aside to explain the situation.
Werner finally grasped what Donald was implying. He demanded, โSo youโre saying this virus was contracted through sexual contact, and you suspect Iโve been unfaithful to your mom?โ
Donald quickly exclaimed, โOf course I trust you, Dad. As your son, donโt I know what kind of person you are? I was just trying to understand what happened. Thatโs all.โ
Wernerโs face hardened. He snapped, โIโm certainly not that kind of cheating bastard. Iโll go ask your mother right now.โ
โDad,โ Donald called out.
Werner snatched the report and stormed over to Cathy. He demanded, โHave you been cheating behind my back? Donald said this virus only spreads when someone cheats.โ
Cathy slammed the table in fury. She snapped, โWhat nonsense are you talking about? After all these years of marriage, donโt you know what kind of person I am?โ
Werner snapped, โThen explain this virus.โ
Cathy protested, โIโve been cooped up at home this whole time. Who could I possibly have infected?โ
She pointed at Werner and snapped, โYou were the one who went to Shaville for several days. Who knows what you were really up to there?โ
Wernerโs voice faltered as he said, โI was with Hayden, helping him deal with the Thomas familyโs affairs.โ
Donald came to Wernerโs defense. He said, โThatโs right, Mom. Dad was with Grandpa the whole time.โ
โBut youโve been back in Nareigh for days now. Hayden came home first, and your dad only showed up much later,โ Cathy retorted, her tone full of skepticism.
Donald turned to Werner with a frown and asked, โDad, why is that? Did you have other business to attend to in Shaville?โ
Werner said, โI was with Liam the whole time. I even spent the night at his place. If you donโt believe me, call him and ask. Iโm fifty years old, for crying out loud, why would I need to lie about something like this?โ
Cathy said, โItโs not my fault. Iโve been a good woman. I havenโt gone anywhere improper.โ
Donald was now relieved and tried to smooth things over. He said, โCome on, Mom and Dad, I know neither of you would ever do something like that."
