Chapter 556

โ€œMy dad isnโ€™t that kind of man,โ€ Donald said firmly.

Jennifer said matter-of-factly, โ€œYou should know that thereโ€™s only one way a high-risk positive infection can be transmittedโ€”sexual contact.โ€

Donald remained silent for a moment, then sighed and took Jenniferโ€™s hand. He said, โ€œNo matter what, my dad would never do something like that. I know him better than anyone. Heโ€™s always been completely faithful to my mom.โ€

Jennifer said coolly, โ€œThe reportโ€™s right hereโ€”itโ€™s your call now.โ€

Donald and Jennifer got out of the car. Once inside the house, they showed Cathy the screening results, leaving her utterly bewildered.

Cathy said in disbelief, โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? How could I, perfectly healthy before, suddenly have two high-risk strains? All my previous tests were completely normal. Could the results be wrong?โ€

Jennifer said firmly, โ€œOur hospital is the best in Nareigh, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Thereโ€™s no mistaking these positive results.โ€

Cathy said nervously, โ€œHow could this happen to me? Iโ€™m always so careful about hygiene. How did I get infected?โ€ She was already in her fifties, and the idea of developing cervical cancer terrified her.

Jennifer said frankly, โ€œYouโ€™ll need to go back to the hospital for a comprehensive medical examination to rule out any lesions. As long as there are no lesions, it shouldnโ€™t be a serious issue. These cases usually clear up on their own.โ€

Cathy nodded, still looking confused. She asked, โ€œSo how on earth did I get infected?โ€

Just as Jennifer was about to explain, Donald abruptly cut her off.

Donald said, โ€œMom, your immune system is just a bit weak. Itโ€™s nothing serious. Jennifer just wants you to get a thorough checkup for your own good. Donโ€™t be scared, itโ€™s not cervical cancer.โ€

Hearing Donaldโ€™s reassurance, Cathy finally felt at ease.

Shortly after, Werner returned, and Donald took him aside to explain the situation.

Werner finally grasped what Donald was implying. He demanded, โ€œSo youโ€™re saying this virus was contracted through sexual contact, and you suspect Iโ€™ve been unfaithful to your mom?โ€

Donald quickly exclaimed, โ€œOf course I trust you, Dad. As your son, donโ€™t I know what kind of person you are? I was just trying to understand what happened. Thatโ€™s all.โ€

Wernerโ€™s face hardened. He snapped, โ€œIโ€™m certainly not that kind of cheating bastard. Iโ€™ll go ask your mother right now.โ€

โ€œDad,โ€ Donald called out.

Werner snatched the report and stormed over to Cathy. He demanded, โ€œHave you been cheating behind my back? Donald said this virus only spreads when someone cheats.โ€

Cathy slammed the table in fury. She snapped, โ€œWhat nonsense are you talking about? After all these years of marriage, donโ€™t you know what kind of person I am?โ€

Werner snapped, โ€œThen explain this virus.โ€

Cathy protested, โ€œIโ€™ve been cooped up at home this whole time. Who could I possibly have infected?โ€

She pointed at Werner and snapped, โ€œYou were the one who went to Shaville for several days. Who knows what you were really up to there?โ€

Wernerโ€™s voice faltered as he said, โ€œI was with Hayden, helping him deal with the Thomas familyโ€™s affairs.โ€

Donald came to Wernerโ€™s defense. He said, โ€œThatโ€™s right, Mom. Dad was with Grandpa the whole time.โ€

โ€œBut youโ€™ve been back in Nareigh for days now. Hayden came home first, and your dad only showed up much later,โ€ Cathy retorted, her tone full of skepticism.

Donald turned to Werner with a frown and asked, โ€œDad, why is that? Did you have other business to attend to in Shaville?โ€

Werner said, โ€œI was with Liam the whole time. I even spent the night at his place. If you donโ€™t believe me, call him and ask. Iโ€™m fifty years old, for crying out loud, why would I need to lie about something like this?โ€

Cathy said, โ€œItโ€™s not my fault. Iโ€™ve been a good woman. I havenโ€™t gone anywhere improper.โ€

Donald was now relieved and tried to smooth things over. He said, โ€œCome on, Mom and Dad, I know neither of you would ever do something like that."
