Chapter 536

Sanford said, "Alright, Iโ€™ll come with you." Without a word of protest or explanation, he stepped into the police car. He thought, "Just as I said, impulsiveness always comes at a price."

The Thomas residence, already quiet and somber, had now descended into utter desolation.

A housekeeper burst in, stumbling, panic written all over her face. She called out, "Ms. Thomas, something terrible happened. Mr. Thomas has been taken into custody."

Liora exclaimed, "What?" She thought, "How could Yorickโ€™s son be so utterly ruthless? He still hadnโ€™t spared Sanford after all."

She demanded, "Get me out of this bed. I have to go to the police station right now."

The housekeeper pleaded anxiously, "Ms. Thomas, youโ€™re still not fully recovered. Please donโ€™t move around. Mr. Thomas will worry if he finds out youโ€™re up and about while heโ€™s in detention."

Liora couldnโ€™t just stand by and do nothing. She said, "Sanfordโ€™s been detained. Will he be sentenced next? No, I canโ€™t just stand by and watch him go to prison. Heโ€™d never survive years behind bars."

However, as soon as Liora tried to get out of bed, her weakened body gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

The housekeeper rushed over to help Liora up. She said, "Ms. Thomas, please just rest and wait for the investigation results."

Liora couldnโ€™t wait another second. Gripping the housekeeperโ€™s hand tightly, she ordered, "Contact Irene for me, right now. I need to see her immediately."

The housekeeper replied, "Yes, Ms. Thomas."

For the past two days, Irene had remained in her hospital room, lost in thought as she stared at the test report. She refused to accept that her husband had fathered a child with Liora, the woman she hated most.

Just as Irene was reeling in silent despair, unable to calm her turbulent thoughts, the Thomas familyโ€™s housekeeper finally managed to track her down after asking around everywhere.

The housekeeper said, "Ms. Thomas wants to see you. She says itโ€™s urgent; she has something incredibly important to tell you."

Irene snapped, "Liora and I? We have absolutely nothing left to say to each other. Tell her this from me: since she resorted to such scandalous means to have that child, she should have kept him hidden forever, never let her son see the light of day. Now that itโ€™s all out, does he think he can waltz into the Lynn family? In his dreams."

The housekeeper, intimidated by Ireneโ€™s fury, trembled as she stuttered, "But Ms. Thomas has something important to tell you!"

"I donโ€™t want to hear it," Irene snapped, startling the housekeeper into leaving.

Meanwhile, Hayden called Jonathan. He said, "I told you not to go after Sanford. What on earth are you doing? Why am I seeing on the news that Sanfordโ€™s been detained?"

Jonathan said, "If I donโ€™t do this, I canโ€™t answer to the board of directors, let alone face my mother, the wronged legitimate wife."

"Sanford is still your brother, Jonathan, a member of our Lynn family. Donโ€™t go too far," Hayden said.

Jonathan said coldly, "This is strictly business."

Hayden said, "You!"

Jonathan said, "If you have nothing else to say, Iโ€™m hanging up." Without waiting for a response, he ended the call.

Jonathan folded his arms tightly across his chest. Since arriving in Shaville, he hadnโ€™t had a proper nightโ€™s sleep. Closing his eyes, he stole what little rest he could.

Sanford had now spent a full twenty-four hours behind bars. He was taken aback when someone suddenly came to see him.

Separated by the glass partition, Jennifer picked up the handset in front of her. She said, "I saw the news that youโ€™d been detained, so I booked the earliest flight and rushed here as soon as I could."

Sanford said, "Thanks for coming to see me."

"If anything, I should be the one thanking you, for keeping that secret for me," Jennifer said.

Sanford fell silent.
