Chapter 534
Teresa couldn’t stand how Jennifer always questioned her with that condescending attitude. She snapped, “I don’t have to tell you anything!”
Jennifer said with a mocking tone, “So you’re still hung up on him? Like there aren’t other fish in the sea?”
Teresa retorted, “Will you just stop already? Instead of interrogating me, if you want to help Sanford so much, then go ahead, as you're into Shayis. Isn’t that where you’ve always wanted to work?”
Jennifer shook her head helplessly and said, “You’ll never truly understand pain until the knife cuts your flesh. When Jonathan takes custody of your child, that’s when you’ll finally taste real suffering.”
“Jonathan is suing Sanford.”
Hearing this, Teresa was momentarily stunned.
Jennifer explained, “I heard it from Donald. They did a DNA test using Sanford and Hayden’s hair samples, which proved Sanford is indeed part of the Lynn family.
“But when Sanford went public with his accusations under his real name, it caused quite a scandal and had a significant negative impact on Jonathan.”
“Jonathan has already issued a cease-and-desist letter, and from what I can tell, he intends to sue Sanford for defamation and spreading malicious rumors.”
Teresa fell silent for a few seconds. She pondered, ‘Jonathan’s well within his rights to sue. No one would tolerate such malicious slander against their family.
“Yorick has already passed away. Yet Sanford accused him of abandoning his wife and child. Irene is Yorick’s lawful wife all along, so where does this 'abandonment' nonsense even come from? How low can Sanford get, slandering Yorick when he’s no longer here to defend himself?”
Seeing that Teresa remained silent, Jennifer pressed on, “Jonathan is such a heartless bastard, and you’re still hung up on him? Just wait, when the truth about Mike comes out, Jonathan and Irene will be coming for you.”
With that final warning, Jennifer turned and walked out.
Teresa’s legs suddenly gave way beneath her. She slumped into a chair, forcing herself to calm down and think things through. She thought, “If one day I have to go to court with Jonathan over Mike, so be it."
After leaving Teresa’s office, Jennifer sat down at a café across from Evelyn.
Evelyn was leaving Nareigh with Isabel. Evelyn’s latest medical checkup results had come back clear, confirming she was perfectly fine. She was now ready to take Isabel and strike out on their own.
Since Teresa and Jennifer both had their own lives in Nareigh, Evelyn didn’t want to burden either of them. Deep down, she was still fiercely independent and refused to become a mother who constantly relied on her children for everything.
Evelyn looked at Jennifer and said softly, “My flight’s tonight. I’ve already had a long talk with Teresa, but before I go, there are a few more things I need to tell you.”
Jennifer looked at Evelyn with a blank expression and said coldly, “We have nothing to discuss. But since you insist, let me ask you: why would you bother clearing Jonathan’s name? Do you honestly think you matter to him at all?"
Evelyn sighed helplessly. “Just a few words, no trouble at all.”
Jennifer sneered, “It’s precisely because you’re that kind of mother that your children always end up getting hurt.”
Evelyn chuckled instead of getting angry. She said, “Hannah, you know how I am. If anyone ever hurts you and Teresa, I’ll be the first to stand up for you.”
Jennifer asked, “Then why are you meddling in the Lynns’ family business?”
Evelyn looked at Jennifer and said gently, “How can you say this is someone else’s family? Now that you’re married to Donald, you’re part of the Lynn family. Jonathan is Donald’s cousin, so you really should speak up in his defense, too."
Jennifer shot back, “And what exactly am I supposed to say? Irene’s father ruined my wedding, and now you expect me to be the bigger person and speak up for her? Never."
